Join us as we visit Cwmorthin in North Wales. A stunning part of the Snowdonia region that is often overlooked. Here you will find waterfalls, an old quarry and a stunning lake. All tucked away in the Snowdonia mountains.
Slate Mining was started here in 1810 and carried on through till 1997, and it was once a hive of activity. But not without dangers! 21 slate miners lost their lives here and as a the quarry has the nickname of 'The Slaughterhouse'!.
But those days of sweat and tears and are far cry away from what you will find here now.
If you are ever visiting the Ffestiniog Valley and want to see spectacular scenery, then this is a place you have to visit.
It has it all, old mining buildings, a stunning lake, waterfalls and amazing views. You can even if you have time go hunting for the old cave mines, apparently there are miles of tunnels beneath the area, with some huge chambers.
With free parking, there is no reason not to visit, just remember to take your camera, some walking boots and some shorts if you are visiting on a sunny day. As paddle in the lake to cool off is very tempting.
