Found out what is wrong with the accord idle. His new parts should be in next week sometime. Hopefully it will be on the road with no issues, stay tuned for part 3! #honda #accord
It's already the great looking red interior with a manual transmission. I've had many of these. Never anger the vacuum hose spaghetti monster. At least with a manual, when it eventually gets a vacuum leak, a high idle won't force you into a 3K neutral drop. If it was my car, I would do the PGM-FI conversion and have the most reliable honda ever made. This includes the fourth gen accords as well. Rock solid vehicles.
Isn't the 4th gen Accord generally considered more reliable than the 3rd gen since they are all fuel injected and they don't normally have transmission problems? I haven't heard of too many issues with either automatic, but I have heard of the manual 3rd gen having a lot of problems with 5th gear going out. Also, for whatever reason, there seem to be a LOT more 4th gens left than 3rd gens, meaning parts are much more readily available for the 4th gen. I still see 4th gens driving around occasionally and a lot in junkyards, but I don't even remember the last time I saw a 3rd gen in traffic, almost certainly not within the last 10 years.
I work with alot of these i found out the carb intake pipes in the back be crack and make you think the carb is bad trust me doe it the intake carb pipes in the very back tfs
I have the same car, adjusting the carburetor usually requires hunting down an old Honda technician with experience in the "procedure" required. Those carbs aren't for the faint of heart but run great when tuned right and usually get 30 mpg. Let me know if he figures it out though.
I've got the same issue with my 89 Accord. I'm wondering, did you gents ever get this fixed? Also, if you don't mind, what were the parts you ordered off of rock auto? Thanks!
He never fixed it, tried, but it is still acting up. He ended up ordering some carb gasket that fits right under the carb. Not sure what it's called, but i can ask him.
@@TheGerbsteve Got '89 with 380k miles on it. It started acting like yours last year. I just increased the idle rpm (black knob behind the carb). The problem went away couple weeks later so I lowered the rpm back. Check the PVC and vacuum lines for cracks.
Run as fast as your legs can carry thee. Better yet, convert to weber carb or find a LX-I and do a PGM-FI swap. Even better, if it's an auto and you do a manual swap, it would be one of the most reliable honda's ever made like the forth gen accords.
Do you still have the car? Did you figure it out. Check idle cut off valve wire - mine broke two year ago. I just done 400k mile major maintenance - it's good for another 100k miles.
Hi! My 88 accord has low iddle when engine is cold and vibrates. When the car is turned on, it acelerates automatically to 2krpm but after that it gets low idle until the engine fully warms up. Any help please??
