What if you do not devide them and plant as is?

Hi Helen thanks for your question. Yes it's ok to plant the whole tuber clump, and most people do just that. To divide the clump into tubers is a way of multiplying your stock for free, and helps to maintain health of your plants. I hope your dahlias season it going well.

@@MoorfieldFarmFlowers Is it healthier to reduce tubers to one? I don't need too many in my home garden. Can I just split a clump into two? From the clumps I've overwintered, some are larger, some are smaller. Don't need too many.

Thanks for your question jc. I don't think its healthier as such, reducing to one is more a way of increasing your stock. We aim to split down to 2 or 3 tubers for planting, as we like 3 stems. If there are more stems we reduce them to three at the planting out stage. Hope this helps and good luck with yours.
