When Jim Davis died, the original Dallas was NEVER the same. When Larry Hagman died, Dallas died. With those two towering figures gone in real life, the story just couldn't go on. The vigor that those two actors brought to the show cannot be replaced.
@crazyrabbits
@crazyrabbits 2 года назад
Pretty much, yeah. The revival was worth it to get more JR, but it was clear that once he died and the overarching plot of the Ewing-Barnes feud was finally resolved, there was nothing more that really needed to be said. Frankly, I found the third season redundant.

Larry Hagman's portrayal of JR was legendary. No one else could have played JR the way he did. He really put his rubber stamp on that character and made it his own. Only the best actors are able to do that. In the long history of soap operas, JR has to be the best TV villain of all time, who had class, charm, sophisticated wit, one for the ladies, intelligent and a menacing ruthless nature. RIP Larry.

So agree, watched a documentary on him and it had an interview with one of the Producers (I believe) and more or less Larry asked him how much of a bastard can I make him? The producers were kinda taken back and told him as much as you want. He took that character and made it his. Nobody would have been able to do with JR's character what Larry Hagman did for it. He is the perfect character study on how you create a villain and make him one of the most hated characters in history. Everything he did with JR's character was not by accident, it was a careful thoughtful creation of Larry on how can I make this character into a complete hated asshole that everyone wants to be like but hate because they are not me.

Oh why did they cancel that show? Smh...It was one of the best remakes ever! I was so into it then so disappointed when I heard the news they were discontinuing it.

With JR (Larry Hagman) gone I think they might have done it in part as a tribute to him and also the ratings likely dropped after he passed and they figured cancelling the show was probably the best thing to do. I got the original box set but it was very expensive.

Cautionary tale: don’t wait to quit drinking until it’s too late. Alcohol even claimed the late, great Larry Hagman. It spares no one, and will always get you in the end, no matter how smart or impervious you think you are. The greater the ego, the greater the danger. R.I.P. Larry Hagman.

My wife and I just finished watch the original Dallas on DVD, and we're currently watching the 2012 version. Despite knowing what we did about how rotten J.R. was, he was still such a likeable character. John Ross can be just as rotten as his father, but he doesn't have J.R.'s charisma, not even close. It was so sad when J.R. died, and the emotions on the show were very real, because Larry Hagman was beloved by his cast mates. J.R. EWING - 1939-2013 - "THE ONLY DEAL HE EVER LOST"
