The look on Bobby’s face after seeing JR’s was the usual “oh f***, here we go again.” Meanwhile, in the back of his mind, he’s once again pondering “what the hell did JR do this time?!!”
Gotta love how JR kept going on about Ray being a “bastard son” only to find out he had one himself. That wiped the smirk right off of his smug face! LOL

I always liked Cliff as a character simply because with a few words he was able to turn the whole Ewing family upside down. I always thought of him as comic relief.
You cut out the best part when there's a shot of each person at the table staring at JR after James's announcement. That was always my favorite part of this scene.
Unlike most i liked the character of James Beaumont, JR having an illegitimate son and thinking about it maybe he should have been introduced earlier when Sue Ellen, Pam, Miss Ellie, Clayton & Ray were still about. maybe instead of the Jack Ewing character .

I would watch the entirety of it on DVD. Every season containing each episode and the 3 movies along with them. I'll even watch the reboot through its fullest as well.
In the new show it turned out that JR had a daughter that John Ross felt it was important that he find. But now we will never know why, since it can’t be out of brotherly love.
@@jamesgibson3716 I love Cliff's lines in this scene! I also like the cocky look on his face when Carter McKay barges in and threatens the Ewings. Bobby and April get all defensive but everything Cliff said was justified. As for April; what a low-class, shameless harlot! Cliff should've doused her with that drink.
When they let JR get remarried they really messed up ....He was much better off staying single unless he was married to Sue Ellen. (No other woman can play his wife like her.)....Cally was just horrible...She was cute and all...But did not fit in!!!!.....BIG FAIL!
Ya know, it's interesting because there was a moment in the series when the script-writers confirmed that very sentiment through young John Ross's lines! 'Remember when he didn't like Cally being married to his Dad and living at Southfork? .....and he would NEVER have regarded Cally as a surrogate mother! Like he told her, 'I've got a Mom who looks and acts like a Mom.....NOT like the girls in my class!" LOL!
@@FischerFan The script writers were the ones who kept Cally on the show. Originally, the plan was to write her off halfway through her first season. J.R. gives her a healthy divorce settlement and she leaves town but they kept her on for two more seasons

@@PungiFungi J.R. and Ray got along fine until he found out Ray was his brother. They used to go out carousing and drinking together. That all changed when J.R. stole Ray's woman Garnet McGee
I think this scene was originally scheduled to be at the Oil Baron's Ball, but due to budget cuts they didn't have a Ball that season so they just made it a dinner at the Oil Baron's Club
JR having an illegitimate son was a good idea because the show desperately needed some youthful characters but it came a few years too late. Plus, the role was badly miscast.
I agree. I had long given up on Dallas by this point. The idea of James was a good one but needed to be added to the series a lot earlier since JR had slept with half the women of Dallas. Cally was another character I couldn't stand. Having her marry JR was creepy beyond belief.
James Kennedy. Quite right. This storyline would have been more beneficial in the earlier seasons. It would have been interesting to witness Sue Ellen's reaction to JR having another son. Instead of playing Peter Richards, Christopher Atkins could have been cast to portray this 'new' JR.
I disagree. It actually started with BD Calhoun in the 9th season, the first guy JR couldn't buy off, and it started the downfall of Ewing Oil. In the 11th season, JR met Cally and then more enemies came forward, including James and Michelle. The most recent three seasons were entertaining, but didn't do justice to the original, or James would've been a main character and Bobby would've reminded John Ross about how Calhoun came an eyelash of murdering him in cold blood.
I didn't care for Michelle or James. Cally and April were ok but they should've kept J.R. single because Sue Ellen was the only woman for him. She had to worn Cally, who like her, was younger than J.R.
I didn't like James because he took depth away from John Ross. Poor Cally, but J.R. was never going to change. Too bad J.R. never got to know his other son with her.
when Dallas was slowly going downhill with all the new characters. When i think back to the first 5 seasons , the show was just a shadow of its former glory
This was one of the few times we saw JR with a *wine glass* in his hand. It was always amusing to see a drunk Cliff Barnes being at his obnoxious worse. Ken Kercheval should have won an Emmy for such performances.

There were a lot of writers on the show and they were probably so excited about the Ray being Jock's son plot twist that they forgot about the Lucy connection. I think we have to cut them some slack, because it was a great idea to make Ray Jock's illigitamite son.

I could agree more St. Barts, though I know people who stuck with the show to the bitter end. Now why did this illegitimate son not appear in the remake?
St. Barts: Most shows lose steam after strong original characters leave. Jock was huge piece of the show, and motivator in JR's hole persona. But still, Jock's death and it's aftermath, did lead to some very juicy storylines for years. The lose of Pam's character was also a very big lose. I was never happy with any of the women in Bobby's life after Pam. I almost wish Valene could of become a regular member of Dallas after Pam left. I don't mean to be with Bobby, but just to have her there because it would have given JR another woman to hate as much as he hated Pam. Dallas was still a very good show even after you stopped watching though, just not as good..
I totally agree, after Pam's departure nothing was the same anymore. All the new leading characters like April, Michelle, Cally, James were terrible and extremely boring.
Leonard Katzman was a chauvinist. He thought the show revolved around J.R. and Bobby and the women were irreplacable. J.R. and Bobby's love interests kept getting younger by the year
The show always ends on a great dramatic note. Could you please tell me the point of cutting the end scene abruptly and ruining the emotional punch??????

Ah! I remember the situation behind Ewing Oil getting that tanker: JR struck a deal with *"Al (as in Hal) . . . your pal, Halliday"* that sold a rust-bucket ship of a tanker to JR. It was an attempt for the producers of Dallas to inject a tad of light-heartedness into the episodes when JR and Halliday had screen-time together. Halliday was sort of a used-car salesman in the oil-tanker business. The charmily folksy Halliday character was played by Lance LeGault, which was a departure from the usual stern/authoritative figures he played in other 1980s TV roles . . . think "Colonel Decker" in the A-Team; and "Colonel Greene" in Magnum P.I.
Both JR and Vanessa have blue eyes, yet James has brown eyes. JR just accepts that this guy is his biological offspring? Why, because Vanessa was some paragon of virtue? If so, why was she with JR? Hated this storyline and hated the casting of Sasha Mitchell. He was just awful and acted like an uneducated nitwit - considering he was well educated at high price boarding schools. Then, this "secret" son of JR's just moves into Southfork (bringing in even more irrelevant and irritating characters like a past girlfriend and her kid), starts working at Ewing Oil (what the hell does he know about the oil business?) and has JR committed. The last remotely tolerable season was the 1988-89 season. After that, Sue Ellen was gone (Ellie was soon to leave) and the show's ratings dropped so much that they couldn't even afford to film exterior scenes in Texas, as had been done for the previous decade.
I was sitting thinking Sue Ellen looks really weird. Until I heard the name Vanessa. I actually thought it was Sue Ellen for a minute! I had forgotten this story line!
