Funny story. My mother once met both Larry Hagman, and Patrick Duffy at the airport. This was when both men were in their later years. She didn’t want an autograph or picture, just just wanted to thank both of them for all the wonderful work they did on Dallas and how much joy and entertainment they gave people. Larry Hagman was a true gentleman and thanked her for her kind works and they had a few minutes of conversation pleasantries. Patrick Duffy, was impatient and was eager to end the conversation, and was more curt, toward my mother. A few minutes later my mother heard this man yelling and running after her, saying “excuse me, ma’am”. To her shock, it was Patrick Duffy. He ran back to apologize for his behavior and if he appeared rude. My mother really did not think anything of it. He went on to say how sorry he was for ending their conversation, and that he and Larry had been on a fishing trip the past week and he just had to make sure Larry got on that flight because, as much as he loved his old friend dearly, he really just needed to get home! He apologized again, and thanked my mother for her kind words and for being a fan. I always thought this was just a cute fun story, and highlighted just how endearing both these mean were.😊
I personally wouldn’t bother some one in public like that. If they were at a premier or something work related sure , but they aren’t always working. How exhausting it must be to never know when some one is going to come up and bother u how u always have to be ready to smile and engage cause years later their off spring will make a random comment they were “ curt” 😐
@@MearnieToon Wow! You clearly missed the point of the story! Remarking, “years later their offspring (that is one word by the way, not two) will make some random comment they were “curt”.” The point of the story was to show how great both Patrick Duffy and Larry Hagman were. It was not like my mother accosted them, she merely wanted to thank them. After talking with her a little bit, they actually asked if she wanted a picture or autograph, and she respectfully declined, she really did just want to thank them. You also missed the point, that when someone is famous, they know there is going to be a degree of recognition, it comes with the territory. In fact, the old saying is, when people stop recognizing you that is a sign your career might be in trouble, or worse, over. Actors, Musicians, Celebrities, etc. would not have careers if they didn’t have fans.
You live in a alternate reality. you think people owe you something? Nope they don’t. If your mother was really a fan she would have kept walking. Hugs@@MB-xl8nx
@@MB-xl8nxThere is a line when seeing celebrities in public living their life, but I don’t think your mother even came close to that line. However, some people think celebrities owe them something when they see them in public, that’s weird.
Just last night I saw 2 local TV new personalities at a liquor store near their TV Station. Once of which was the son of my elementary school principal. So I told him that. We chatted about a couple minutes. I said hi to the other guy just to make him feel like he was not ignored. Both very nice guys.
I understand the love people have for this show and these characters, but saying it could have gone on much longer without Larry Hagman is bonkers. "Dallas" was JR, and JR was "Dallas". Even though Larry Hagman didn't have much screentime as his illness progressed, he was still the straw that stirred the drink. Everything-and I mean *everything*-that happened was under the shadow of "what is JR going to say or do about this?" "Dallas" without JR is like The Beatles without John Lennon.
Well said! And I am a fan of not only the old Dallas but also the new one! The thing that is peculiar is Southfork ranch. By today's standards it would seem rather ordinary not a home where oil millionaires lived!
In so many ways, I feel like the latest version tried to create too many storylines into single episodes. I do agree with others, that while challenging, that having Bobby, Sue Ellen, cliff, Christopher, John Ross and even Rebecca duking it out, could have been an enduring way to carry the show on for a few more seasons
In the older seasons Bobby’s will was sweet and caring....... and then there’s JR’s will straight forward, blunt and a sick sense of humor. Basically the summary of JR!
Eye of the storm no you're not crazy I mean in the very first episodes of Dallas I mean even in the very first episode she was sleeping with Ray I know that and yes I'd say off and on for the first three seasons are so she was trying to date him but I know she was sleeping with him so as far as that storyline you're correct and you're not crazy I mean if you can look at the pilot episode they're up in The Hayloft in the pilot episode in the first 5 minutes the show Ray and Lucy are in The Hayloft
Shaun W I recognized the voice right away. The Ewings were generous to him financially by contributing heavily to his re-election campaign. I remember when he did not want to arrest Jock for the death of a Hutch McKinney, but he had no choice.
Eye of the storm once it was decided that Ray would be the 4th Ewing son, the writers quickly dropped any notion of innuendo of Ray & lucy messing around
MMAFighter38 Yes, that is correct. Same actor, but playing a different role here. I think it's nice that they brought him back to the Dallas series, after so many years!
I know, cliched fighting aside he was Gary's blood brother, it was always "Ray" who he treated like dog droppings in the TV series if you get what i'm saying. This seems way too childish of even J.R. to do this to Gary of all people.
chris Morrison Strongly disliked maybe but hate is a very strong word indeed. In his own way maybe it was a stern warning to Gary to stay straight and sober instead. (shrugs) JR's tough love maybe!
Well said Rex. As a causal viewer (my late mom and older sister was big fans)that scene should have a final ever finale to this legendary 80's era Drama/Nighttime soap opera.
Miss Ellie really stabbed Bobby in the back with that letter. Bobby is the reason Southfork ran the way it did & she leaves it to John Ross which is just as greedy as J.R. was. I wish this show would come back again, I really liked the reboot clear up to that train wreck ending of season 3.
FYI IF I RECALL JR OWN SORTHFORK LONGGGGGG BEFORE HIS DEATH I DONT WANT TOO HEAR ABOUT POORRR BOBBY JR WAS NOT STUPID WHEN HE MADE THAT WILL SEE BOBBY WAS GOING TOO SELL SOUTHFORK HE CANT COES JOHN ROSS HAS HALF OF SOUTHFORK FYI ELLIE DIED LONGGGGGGGG TIMEAGO BEFORE JOHNROSS WAS ALL GROWN UP
I loved how this scene went. What I think would make this scene complete would be that Larry wrote that Will out & none of the other actors knew what his words were. They couldn't have picked a better person to read that Will.
@@jonstefanik9400 he was an italian politician and was famous for many quotes. Among them.."keep your friends close, but your enemies closer". He also believed that once power is attained, hold it at all costs. JR exhibited a lot of this.
The part about Sue Ellen had another meaning, I think. Her and JR were characters and the characters were played excellently in the range of emotions. But, Larry and Linda were best friends and he proved how much their friendship meant to him and his wife because they really helped her when she was getting her divorce and were concerned about her falling into a depression and she stayed with them for a while. You can see her channeling some of this in the season where John Ross was a baby and her "neglect" of the baby and she said that in an old interview years later. She never forgot that act of kindness from him and his wife and all of them became close because of it. It has nothing to do with the scene, I just thought it was a sweet story about Larry Hagman because he was, I believe, the favorite of the cast. So, scenes with him and Linda have a special kind of things to me.
Keep in mind that Jr has always said that he loved Sue Ellen even to the women he cheated on her with. He was never gonna marry any of his mistresses. He always separated sex from love.Mandy WInger he did love and probably was gonna marry but everybody else he bed his secretaries and random women by using them to get what he wanted even from his own sister in law and Bobby's ex sister in law Katherine.
It’s a shame a lot of people think that people are the same in real life. In fact many shows have cast members with adversarial relationships got along great off set. Larry also was close to Carrol O’ Connor and directed many In The Heat of the Night post Dallas career. Archie Bunker and JR Ewing we’re close buddies, go figure. However ditto for Benson cast members Benson and Clayton were not so close in character but in real life Robert Guillium and Rene Aberjoinios we’re friends who kept close after Benson got cancelled. Usually friends on set make the best drama and love to hate relationships.
Linda Grey has always been such a beautiful woman. During the regular series, she portrayed the neurotic and miserably despondent wife of a narcissistic, philandering mogul so well. In the later specials, she reflected a personality that had survived that hell and found such great strength, pulling her shredded life together again with genuine poise and elegant dignity. Superb actress!
I once ran into the tall woman Brenda Strong while on a tour of the southfork ranch. They were filming and in between takes she came to eat some Ice Cream and she admited that is her weakness in front of the entire group. That was in October 2013.
I really don't think Miss Ellie could have taken back 1/2 of Southfork and gifted it to John Ross. She gave it to Bobby -- all of it. This does not seem at all legal. It was no longer hers to split in half. And why would only John Ross and Bobby get 1/2 each. Nothing for Lucy? She grew up there too. This is just silly.
I suppose it depends upon the date of the codicil. Jock provided for Lucy so maybe Miss Ellie thought her granddaughter would have enough when Gary died.
stevebbuk But ownership of Southfork was not about money. It was the Southworth legacy. Maybe Miss Ellie just really needed to know someone with Southworth blood would always be there.
You mean that there should be no discrepancy between John Ross and Lucy as two of Ellie's grandchildren? I suppose because she had overlooked Christopher there was no principle at stake.
stevebbuk Well, half of Southfork still belongs to Bobby which means Christopher is in line to inherit half anyway. I can see overlooking other grandchildren as they did not grow up on Southfork but Lucy, John Ross and Christopher did. Lucy, having no kids means no future Southworth blood from her. John Ross is sure to provide heirs.
Did we ever hear from Garrison again after he showed up after so many decades away? I thought maybe he might have had children Eliie might have wished to provide for.
What doesn't make sense to me, is that Gary was Miss. Ellie's favorite child and Gary was more of a Southworth than Bobby and JR. Plus, Gary loved Southfork, but JR kept chasing him off. In the early mini-series, the original Gary moved back to Southfork and wanted to work on the ranch, but Jock and JR said that Ray had that duty, and JR purposely set Gary up with a bankrupt company. Why would Miss. Ellie split the ownership of Southfork to Bobby and JR and leave Gary out? She knew how much Gary loved Southfork.
Legally her letter means nothing. If Bobby chose to honor her wishes then he is the one giving half to John Ross. But no mistake, if Bobby fought it he would’ve won
I wonder why the son he had with Callie , James Beaumont, his grandson Jimmy or Bobby’s son, Lucas wasn’t at the funeral. It would’ve been the perfect time to write them into the show.
The reboot of Dallas was simply awesome! It should have been on for more than 3 seasons. The cast was excellent and the stories completely full of interesting stories. TNT was dumb for dropping this show. Even now, I wish some other TV company would put this show back on the air.
So JR left his rights to the oil under Southfork, that can never be touched, to Sue Ellen and John Ross. So it’s worthless, at least while Bobby is alive. Guess JR didn’t have much cash at the end.
J.R. White Cash would mean zero to any of the Ewings. Everything they’d have would be in the businesses and ranch. They’d probably have 100 G in cash each
This was a genuinely tough scene because Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy were with Larry Hagman when he died. They were the only two cast members. The other people that were with Larry was his real life family.
This is the first time I’ve seen this. That was a shocker. JR actually loved his wife?! I thought for sure he would leave her with nothing and give everything to his son. Wow. He left her a lot. He did have a heart after all. I didn’t watch EVERY episode of Dallas. I was shocked that he was dead. How did he die? Can someone tell me?
JR left Gary a bottle of scotch, which one, it was JR'S way of sticking it to Gary one last time from the grave, and two, I don't recall JR ever drinking scotch.
The two best parts are when JR Ewing gave half of his rights to Sue Ellen and the other half to John Ross Ewing III and Miss Ellie Ewing gives half of the ownership of Southfork Ranch to Bobby and the other half to her grandson, John Ross Ewing III. I accept only positive comments or remarks over here. May 08, 2020 @ 12:50 pm
what was odd was years earler when Claton showed up for one last episode, he told the family that Elle sign ownership of the ranch over to Bobby. so he owns the ranch and now 20+ years later she gives half to her grand son. sounds like a big OPPS on the writers side when they wrote the episode.
@@farrellmcnulty909, of course. He never gave a damn about those other women. The only two he was ever serious about was Mandy Winger and Anita Smithfield. But outside of that, it was always Sue Ellen. They were an interesting couple. Bobby and Pam were dull and boring.
@@Alimoo1971 - Even outside that. I'm not sure how someone can give property to one person, then X number of years later - after death - say, oh, wait. I only meant to give half to you. So I'm taking half back and giving it to someone else.
on the TNT show they have written that in the 20 years between the two shows, JR had lost all his money, billions of dollars. Most of the moves he makes on the TNT show are bankrolled by Carlos Del Sol.
From a legal point of view can you give property to someone then after one of its heirs passes away secretly leave half of it to their grandson? Normally wills are somewhat public and don't have surprises like this. Bobby managed the ranch for over 20 years and paid the taxes on it, now half of it is taken away. They wonder why Gary drank? It seems that Gary and Lucy were not given their fair shares of Southfork.
@@1981lashlarue Southfork was placed in a trust, Bobby was only executor of the trust. I would think Ms Ellie could posthumously dissolve the trust and divest the property based on certain conditions.
@@michaelsasylum I haven't seen enough of the new show to know exactly what did or did not happen to Southfork. I'm just operating on what was stated in this clip which is that Miss Ellie "left" Southfork to Bobby, implying that it was bequeathed and not just placed in some trust. That may or may not change things. Also, I think it being granted to John Ross would have to survive the rule against perpetuities.
All legal holes aside (because Bobby's the title-owner at this point and all he has to say is "nope" to squash this) don't you think Ellie should've at least told Bobby or tipped him off somehow? Having your youngest son find out he has to hand over half ownership of his family-home while he's right in the middle of grieving his brother's death seems like a dick move. ..... and also, how many more of these "After this person dies" Miss Ellie-bonus wills are we gonna get after this one? It's kind of egotistical for her to feel she can still make moves to dictate people's lives 10-20 years after her passing.
How was Gary in this when he thought bobby was dead? I know the two reunion movies were erased in this continuity so I'm wondering if the dream season of the original series was also not acknowledged? Seems only way this could make sense. Gary had a couple three scenes with bobby here on the TNT reboot
They just kind of tossed it out and/or treated the events of the series in a semi-continuity. Knots Landing had a grand finale, but the reunion movie they did set up more stuff than it answered - it seemed like Gary and Val's appearance here was meant to tie up some of those plot threads.
Is what Miss Ellie did here even legal if it happened in real life? Bequeathing half of Southfork to her grandson several years after she died? As a surprise?
This could have lasted longer if they stuck to the history. They also could have brought some characters back. What about James and Cally's son. They could have fought for a piece of Ewing Oil. Also John Ross said that he had a sister. I say that her mother should have been Sly or even Dora Mae!!!! Also Lucas could have been brought on as a foe for Christopher. Being jealous that he was raised by Bobby and not being his blood son. Secretly hating being raised by Ray. Ray and Donna would have gotten back together (Donna could be recast) . Bring on their daughter and give her a nice love story with Carter McKay's grandson. Michelle (April's sister and Cliff's wife in the last episodes of the original series)comes back. She and Cliff would have had a daughter, but instead of Pamela vs. Michelle and her daughter the 3 are surprisingly close and work to get back at the Ewings and Ann's daughter. I would also bring Lucy, Valene, and Gary back. Lucy never got a family, of her own, but she would come back with a husband that has a wandering eye. Might go after Pamela, Michelle, or her daughter.
Wasn't The Lawyer also The Coach on One Tree Hill. Here's a fun fact. Josh Henderson was briefly in The Popstars Group Scene 23 (Pre-American Idol). It was the first Reality Show of A Musical Genre. Jesse Metcalfe's Ex-Girlfriend Nadine Coyle was in the UK Group Girls Aloud who were the most successful of the Franchise with 21 Top Tens, 4 Number Ones, and Six Platinum Albums. Sadly enough Jesse didn't learn how bad addiction is after seeing what happened to Larry Hagman. It cause their breakup.
If you have ever seen the movie War Games, Barry Corbin (the lawyer here and also the sheriff in the original series) played General Beringer, who said "I'd piss on a sparkplug if I thought that it would do any good." Always loved that line. He's been in hundreds of movies.
I was a fan of the original series - especially the first 4 years. I never watched this reboot but I have seen enough clips to see the problem. The Ewing grandchildren are too young. They should have been closer to 40/45 and in full ownership of the show with history, wives, kids and dramas of their own. JR, Bobby and even Sue Ellen were too old to be passing the torch. They should have been patriarchs who very occasionally lit up the screen with wisdom and nostalgia. The casting of John Ross was key and he was too young and good looking without enough gravitas.
It had potential and had Larry Hagman lived, then we'd have another story. The kids couldn't act! But with Larry, Linda, Patrick, Ken K, etc....great potential
But I’m still confused as to how John Ross, has half of south fork 🤨 Miss Ellie gave it to Bobby lock stock and barrel, so many inconsistency , perhaps that’s why it was canceled. Other beneficiaries, like what already mentioned, James , little jimmy, and lucus, yeah they didn’t live at south fork, but still Ewings.
It was a great show. But man the scripts to the shows sometimes never made sense. JR passing in real life ended the show. JR kept Dallas going for many years.. Rip Larry Hagman
Miss Ellies will or statement is not valid. Bobby ownes all of Southfork legally. Had the series continued I'm sure this would have been addressed. Remember early on in the reboot JR tried to sell Southfork or the oil rights so there is definitely a conflict.
