I don’t care if her voice dropped an octave, she still sounded so damn good! And to be honest, this got me emotional. You were such an outstanding, inspiring, and beautiful woman. Rest In Peace, Dame Vera Lynn.
My dear friend Gloria was dying from pancreatic cancer in 2000. As a way of rallying around her, I wrote a letter to Dame Vera and asked if she would write a note to Gloria to encourage her, as Gloria was a huge fan of Lynn's music. About three weeks later, a personal letter and a photograph arrived and surprised Gloria on her last birthday with us. She died in 2001 but I still have that photo and a copy of the letter. Dame Vera is a class act, all the way. And she still sounded awfully good in this video. Thanks for sharing!
I had the privilege of sitting opposite Dame Vera on a train going to Brighton (I believe she lives nearby) about ten years ago. A very sweet and down-to-earth lady with an obvious zest for life. Taller than I expected, ramrod straight and immaculately dressed. The nation will celebrate her centenary with her in 2017!
I must admit, Vera truly deserves the title 'Sweetheart'. Throughout her years leading up until her death she's always been a woman with dignity and pride. She's never taken no for an answer. And that's what runs in the family. Truly a legend and needs to be on those charts.
DAME VERA LYNN HELPED TO KEEP OUR SPIRITS UP DURING THE WAR & ventured into Burma where no artist had been before. How wonderful that she is still with us. They don't make them like Dame Vera any more.
Dame Vera Lynn is a true British Icon. She did a wonderful job enertaining our troops through the difficult times. Dame Vera Lynn i may not know you in person but i would like to thank you for what did during WW2 the surving veterans are so proud of you and the fallen are looking down on you. Its people like you that make me feel proud to be British. I hope you make to 100 and beyond.
Dame Vera Lynn one of the most wonderful singers on this earth her song during the war gave many men strength to fight on during the war years. I have the most up to date respect for her life and her singing one of the greats among us
Dearest Vera , what a wonderful fulfilling life you've had . Praise and honour and glory be to our King of all kings JESUS CHRIST OUT LORD AND SAVIOR. Love Yes we will meet someday, i truly hope on a golden shore and will be singing the song of the redeemed : AMAZING GRACE HOW SWEET THE SOUND THAT SAVED A WRETCH LIKE ME!
My adoptive father won the George Cross from the fire brigade my mother adopted was also in the second world war when Dame Vera Lynn passes I think she should get a state funeral if we can give Margaret Thatcher no comment a state funeral social that lady she single handedly gave this country morale and hope during the Second World War for the people who are incarcerated for the people who were incarcerated under the Japanese regime and all over the world both my parents adopted are now dead but when Vera Lynn came on there was silence in the house that I lived in she was the Spirit of 1940 to 1945 god bless you girl you're somebody who respects Dame Vera Lynn immensely yours
There are some who think that singers should stop and never sing again once they pass their prime. Dame Kiri Te Kanwa stopped singing at 72 and stated she doesn't want to hear herself anymore. Beverly Sills said she never wanted to sing a note past age 50. However, some singers simply love singing too much to stop. Impressing people is no longer important, they just can't help but sing. Montserrat Caballe sang in public until her death at age 85. Magda Olivero's last recorded performance was age 99. Dame Vera Lynn heard her favorite songs and couldn't help but join in....and could care less what people think.
Vera lynn sounded so much better in 1950,s,when i was sat on my mum,s lap-even though i was bored stiff at the time. Each time i listen to her singing,or frankie vaughan with 'green door', i weep buckets, wishing i was still on her lap.!! But, i know we,ll meet again some sunny day. ! Sandra
