In this video I install the pinion with new bearings into the axle housing. Keep in mind this is the same pinion that came out, I just installed new bearings. I reused all the old shims and for that reason I don't worry about checking pinion height. If you like this video plus hit the thumbs up. If you want to see more videos like it please hit subscribe.

I like to put the race in the freezer before installing, shrinks the metal a tad. Great video.

When you had to much shim installed you could have used a dial indicator to figure out just how much slop you had. Better than guessing and would get you in the ballpark more quickly.

Great video man. Quick question though how did you get the pinion back out every time to change the shims? I can't get mine to budge.

Thanks for watching! I didn't have any problems getting mine out. Have you tried a few smacks with a mallet?

Where can I find the bearings for a dana 60. The ones I get from the part stores are way off.

Check this out. This is what I got from offroad design and everything was correct. www.offroaddesign.com/d60-differential-re-bearing-kit-includes-both-pinion-bearings-with-races-both-carrier-bearings-with-races-inner-axle-seals-pinion-seal-and-nut.html Thanks for watching

Did you measure the old bearings and compared them to the new bearings? Sometimes different bearing manufacturers are slightly different!

No I didn't, but that's not a bad idea. Thanks for watching!

what did you mean at 4:55 that you couldnt get it to 250lbs but also couldnt move it?
@Offroadfarm1
@Offroadfarm1 Год назад
Before I could get the pinion nut to 250ftlbs there was so much preload on the pinion that it would not turn. So not enough shims, no need to continue tightening the pinion nut. Thanks for watching!

If you had to remove it by hand it would suck! But I have a big impact that will get it off no problem. Thanks for watching!

Why did you have to play with the number of shims if you were just re-using the original shims? If you used the same shims that came off during disassembly, then wouldn’t the pinion go on having the same tolerances as before disassembly?

I did upgrade to a 1350 yoke and that is why I had to change my shims. Thanks for watching!
