DAPOL CHURCHWARD CLASS 63XX MOGUL. SOUND BY MR SOUNDGUY.
Another one of Keiths’ customers engines, the latest Dapol GWR Mogul, which has received very good reviews in the model railway press, varying reviews here on RU-vid & the usual opinions in the pundit forums. Thanks very much Robin for letting us film these.
This engine is very different. Taking it out of the box you immediately sense a truly nostalgic “Feel” about it and putting it on the track that feel becomes virtual reality. You are back on the Great Western. Performance is very good - 8 mk1 coaches up a 1 in 100 gradient with ease. Yes, of course there are the usual imperfections but quite honestly this engine is good enough for both Keith and I to give it our accolade of ‘Locomotive of the year 2020’. See what you think.
Decoder is a Zimo MX658n18 installed in the smokebox together with a 15x10mm sugarcube speaker drive unit in the Dapol speaker enclosure. A second speaker is installed in the tender, this being a Real Exclusive 40x20x7mm ‘Boombox’.

Sound is very good think using 2 speakers it has enhanced the sound to near perfection ....

Hi, You fooled us with the opening scene ..and 8 chuffs ! But the double heading of 'the run away' is nicely speed synchronized. Very realistic sound files except for the starting procedure without draining the cylinders as remarked by Alan Toms. Very nice video rendering of this 'exclusive Dapol Mogul' ! And truly: it deserves the 'model of 2020 Award'. Especially the 'democratic' price for a well designed quality loco - even with some very minor flaws. Applause for Dapol and You too for sharing the great sound work of MR Soundguy. Greetings

The sound of any Great Western model is not complete without the vacuum pump spitting at every wheel revolution. This is what makes the typical GWR loco stand apart from the chuff chuff chuff of other companies locos. Go to Didcot or any preserved railway that has preserved gwr locos in their stud and you will hear the difference. Until that is reproduced effectively, I wont be bothering with sound on my models.

@@Deuce_and_a_half I've seen & one is on order. Should look great with the Basche Buster. Plus, I got a footplate ride on her when she was on loan to the Swindon & Cricklade Rly a few years ago.

I also have the Boshe Buster, I want to have the Mogul double head it with the Dean Goods, or perhaps help the Khaki City of Birmingham from the WW1 Ambulance Train pack with my rake of 9 GWR clerestory coaches. I'm curious as to what shade of khaki it will end up being, as the khaki of my Bachmann City Class doesn't match the khaki of the Oxford Rail Dean Goods.

Sound is excellent. Synchronisation seems quite good. I've commented before, but most 'kettles' don't start chuffing straight away, hissing for the first few wheel rotations. Is this an option? Al.

Yes. If you open the safety valves (for example) and then start driving, the noise of these should drown out the chuffs. Some sound tracks may have an auto draincock cylinder clearance, which is what I think you are talking about but the extent depends on the original recording. If you send me a link to an engine being driven as you've described, I should be able to answer the question more fully. Reinhard.
