Rendig Strike works quite well if paired with Onslaught (up to +40% Brittleness) on rapid firing mid-low dmg weapons like infantry/braced autoguns, shredder autopistol, Mk. VI Infantry Lasgun, Recon Lasguns or Laspistols. Both Rending and Brittleness work on carapace, flak, unyielding and even on maniac armour types (on some better than others) so it's a wide variate of opponents. The damage buff it gives might seem underwhelming, but so is almost every other dmg buff talent point (I tested: longshot, killzone, precision strike, superiority complex, bring it down - and in practice they give less dmg boost than the description says) in the tree if measured individually - yet at the end of the day they stack up quite nicely and put our Vet in a good spot when it comes to dmg output.

Yes and i made sure to mention that. If you can stack armor reduction. And your weapon hits rapidly its very very good

I saw another video with someone who found out that rending can increase dot damage from soulblaze, also seems to apply to bleed damage as well because like your testing it is low damage ticks. Very interesting to see your conclusions.

It is kinda funny casue i tried rending as well 2 days ago and had basically the same results. Yes, rending with fast fireing guns is good, but it does not matter to much on most else

Just a thought - rending/brittle adds armor reduction up to 100% total and then just gives you slight 25% of additional rending as bonus damage. So if you have 100% damage to enemy and add 10% rending, you will only add 2.5% damage. But if you have 50% damage to the target, rending will work as expected. The weapons you use for example have good armor penetration. Rending is really good against all armored targets for weapons with less than 100% values against armor. It’s pretty useless if you have good armor pen. So you are correct that rending is not 100% always take. But for some weapons it is much more effective than you show. Combining onslaught and rending strikes on the Columnus mk v: It does 7% damage to carapace (near) and 80% damage to flak (near) at base with near perfect stats. With onslaughts 40% brittle and rending 10%, you now do 57% damage to carapace (near) and 107.5% damage to flak (near).

Uh different enemies have different negation values. So you will never be at a static dmg vs. But besides that thats dedicating 2 skill points things that just really arent that dangerous
@TannerLindberg
@TannerLindberg 9 месяцев назад
Also as shown in the thumbnail and video it is possible for rending to lower or do nothing vs armor. Rending DOES NOT ADD DAMAGE VS ARMOR it just lowers the reduction armor provides

@@TannerLindbergI appreciate your reply. But the way it reads and works, rending does always do something. Just not much when you already have high damage percentage versus that armor type. Each weapon has different damage values (percent of base damage) versus each armor type. You can see the values in the weapon stat breakdowns. Rending increases all those values straight up. Once you hit 100% versus any armor type, rending will give you bonus damage at a x .25 value. Here is the quote from patch notes 13 “Any Rend you have is just added. Until you do full damage. After that it still helps you do more damage, just not as much. If you have a shovel that does 20% damage on the big Carapace guys. With 4% rend, you will now do 24% damage, cause 20 plus 4 is 24. On stuff that already does full damage, it will add 1% damage instead. It always adds 1% more for every 4% Rend you have. Still maths that makes an Ogryns head hurt. Just not as much. And it helps kill things on all weapons.” I agree that rend isn’t helpful on weapons with high damage versus armor types. Plasma gun, for example already hits 100% versus all armors with high stats. Rend doesn’t really help much. Same goes for that shovel special attack you show as it has really high armor damage. But most weapons have a weakness against some armor type. Rend can make a big difference depending on the weapon.
@TannerLindberg
@TannerLindberg 9 месяцев назад
rend doesnt make a big difference untill you start stacking several sources of it. but honestly if you're weapon is so bad against armor you NEED rending. thats when you use gasp your other weapon.

Wouldn't rending apply to dots as well? And wouldn't that make it useful against heavily armored enemies besides crushers? I don't know. I tried 30% rending on the ogryn ult, but flame stacks were more useful because there's more enemies to kill with fire than there are to kill with rending.

Something I was wondering was in you have for example a weapon with 50% carapace pen and you add 10% rending does that give you an effective 60% carapace pen or does it just reduce the armor effectiveness by 10% after the 50% calculation?
@primedestroyers2170
@primedestroyers2170 9 месяцев назад
Example being if I deal 100 damage with 50% carapace pen I'd do 50 damage. Would 10%rending give me 60 damage or 55?

i keep telling people flat+ damage on weapons is the way to go and avoid damage nodes because they barely increase the damage, and breakpoints in dt arent that significant like they are in vt that said, you earned a sub, since partyknife dont do dt guides also with your late permission im gonna post this in the bug section, not that fs codemonkies would care i wish they were half as talented as their art team

All the weapons do slightly better in different areas. So rending as a talent allows you to pick a weapon that fits their playstyle but isnt good against armour, and still use it somewhat effectively against armour.
@TannerLindberg
@TannerLindberg 9 месяцев назад
Wrong. As shown in the video rending strikes on its own is useless. You either need to combo it with another rending talent. Or use a different weapon. This is literally not up for debate either an auto gun with only 10% rending is totally not good as shown in the video
@TannerLindberg

Ok final comment to clarify how rending works. Your weapon has a base damage number for its attacks. That number is sent through the various modifiers, like enemy armor modifier and various bonuses from perks. Rending adds to the enemy armor multiplicative modifier. So, you do 100 base damage and only deal 5% to carapace, you’ll deal 5 dmg to non weak spot. If you add 10% rending, you’ll now be doing 15% (base 5 + 10 rending) to carapace and will see 15 damage. That’s a 300% increase because your initial damage to carapace was so low. Check your weapons damage card where it shows your attack values against various types with crit, weak spot, etc. you can math from those numbers and your base damage value to get your damage modifier for the various armor types. Some weapons have enemy armor values as a rollable stat (like “penetration”). Others do not, but they still have a fixed armor modifier. Rending will add directly to every armor damage modifier. Your weapon may do 80% damage to flak, and rending strikes will make that 90% of your base damage. Once your damage to an armor type is over 100%, any additional rending will only give 1/4 of its value as increased damage. Rending strikes is very valuable to most weapons as it makes changes to a multiplicative modifier. The few anti armor weapons like bolter and plasma won’t see huge difference but most weapons will. The deal with rending reducing your damage was from before patch 13 when they changed rending.
@TannerLindberg
@TannerLindberg 9 месяцев назад
As shown in the video, no rending strikes are not valuable to most weapons. if you disagree with that, then i dont know what to tell ya you're just wrong. If seeing the numbers aren't enough to convince you, then you're just delustional. Theres very few weapons where rending is useful at all. And even then 10 percent is to small beans to change any kind of break points outside of auto guns. Like thats just the hard objective truth.
@TannerLindberg
@TannerLindberg 9 месяцев назад
At this point id need to see video evidence of ten percent rending being useful. Because i fully disagree with the idea that it is EVER useful. At BEST it will take something crappy like a devil claws m1 attack and make it better but who cares? Show me one example of a gun that takes 5 plus seconds to kill a crusher that goes down to under 2 sevonds just from rending strikes. It doesnt exist
@timelyspirit
@timelyspirit 9 месяцев назад
@@TannerLindberg What you keep missing is that rending is not giving you plus a percent damage. It’s giving you a multiplicative damage increase by changing the number your damage is multiplied by. Your actual increased damage will vary. If you add 10% rend when you normally deal 20% of your normal damage (like carapace), you’ll now deal 30% of your normal damage. If your weapon has a base attack of 100, you just gained 50% damage (20 to 30). If your base attack is 225, you just gained 50% damage (45 to 67.5) If you add 10% rend to a target you normally deal 80% damage to (like flak), you’ll now deal 90% normal damage. With base 100, you gain 12.5% damage (80 to 90). With base 225, you gain 12.5% damage (180 to 202.5). Look at your own numbers in the vid. The flak gunner is a good example. You gained around 11% damage on your shovel attacks with 10% rending. You probably have a base flak modifier of 85%, which became 95%, bringing your damage up 11%. Against the crusher in your vid, rending changed your shovel attack from 329 to 396, which is a 20% increase. You probably have a carapace armor modifier of about 50%. Adding 10% rending to make it 60% gives you an additional 20% damage. When you tested on the monstrosity, rending gave you +2.5% damage because you were already at 100% damage to the boss with that attack. Any rending past 100% gives bonus damage at .25 amount (10% from rending strike becomes 2.5%). Bottom line = 10% rending will give you at least an additional 11% damage against every target, unless you already deal more than 90% damage to that armor type. While other talents give larger bonus damage, they are conditional to certain enemy types or a certain trigger. Rending strikes affects everything, with diminishing returns the better damage percentage you have against that armor. The more I looked into it for this discussion, the better I realized it was. I don’t know how else to explain it and I don’t make videos. Just check your math. Honestly I don’t know why I’ve spent so much time responding. I appreciate your videos and i wanted to help clarify what was going on with how rending actually works. It’s good. Sometimes it’s not worth it. But most of the time it is. Your own numbers show that.
@timelyspirit
@timelyspirit 9 месяцев назад
@@TannerLindberg More math since I’m clearly stuck on this, lol. Your power sword example: Rending added 13.4% damage. Bring it down added 16.7% damage The axe: Rending added 20.5% damage Bring it down added 16.7% damage Interesting that bring it down did not give 20%. Makes me think it affects your base damage before it gets modified by the armor modifier. Again rending is competitive with the other damage talents, depending on the enemy and weapon.
