There is an organization called MusiCares. This organization helps musicians who are dealing with addictions. Annually, they give the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award to the person who has been most instrumental in helping addicts. They named this award for SRV because when he got clean, he made it his mission to help as many people get off and stay off drugs. Some recipients include Eric Clapton, Chris Cornell, Ozzie, Smokey Robinson and so many more.

Hey Bro, I was blessed to see SRV twice & Jimmy Page twice when he was the guitarist for "The Firm" in the 80's. once in Dallas which was their first show in the states be and only the 3rd show as a band. Then got to see them in Oklahoma City the following year touring for their 2nd and final tour. If you haven't listened to "The Firm", do so. When I saw them both times, Page pulled out the "cello bow" and did the solo from "The Song Remains The Same" movie. Both shows were "magical" and if you didn't know, the lead singer for "The Firm" was Paul Rodgers who used to be the lead for Bad Company and before that Free. Many including myself would say, The best vocalist in Rock. Such a pure voice. Now to Stevie, I saw him both times in my hometown of Amarillo Texas on the Texas Flood Tour then the next year on the Couldn't Stand The Weather Tour. You can find second show on RU-vid, It was filmed. Just look up, Stevie Ray Vaughn in Amarillo Texas. The whole show is there. I got their early and was one of the first in through the door. I was standing right in front of his mic. And was close enough that I could reach out and touch his "snake skin boots"!!! It was a religious experience to watch him live. I'm a big fan of Classic Rock and always lived Hendrix, but I will be the first to say SRV was and still is the GOAT!!!!

Yep, two of his best songs were ones which he wrote for people about whom he cared: This & 'Life Without You'.

Love this reaction, but you cannot appreciate the true beauty of Riviera Paradise until you've heard him doing it at Austin City Limits from 1989: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3c_8VUL5jks.html Stevie was, by all accounts, a wonderful, humble human being. He got clean and sober in Oct of 1986, and helped people kick drugs and alcohol in any way he could. If ANYONE approached him and said they were struggling, he would take them backstage, talk with them and then take them to an AA or NA meeting.

He wrote Lenny when he was married to Lenora Bailey. She got a couple of his friends to pitch in and get a guitar he spotted at a pawn shop. He named that guitar Lenny as well. And that is the guitar he uses on that song. Which by the way I enjoyed your reaction to SRV!!!

You should listen to the studio version, just imagine yourself on a tropical beach chillin` with a long cold drink, this is the most relaxing piece of music ever!
