Martin Love thank you, it's appreciated. I am fairly new but have a love for this type of metal. I am only 17 but more musically literate than a hell of a lot of people my age. I have a love for all music, every genre, metal and Cuban jazz being my favourites but, thank you for your advice and kind words.
Dave is one of those drummers who, when you hear him playing, you *_KNOW_* it's him playing -- very recognizable. That can't be said for many, _many_ drummers. Dave (like Jeff) *_IS_* SLAYER!
Tom & Kerry screwed him on money its well documented. Well their lawyers did. Without Daves drumming on Reign in Blood or South of Heaven they wouldnt be where they are. Hes the best musician in the band or was. He inspired millions of drummers to play double bass that fast ! #team lombardo
john balducci I love slayer,,always will!! but Kerry king is a massive fuckin douche bag!!! arrogant dick! acts like that dishrag Lars from selloutica.
Ikr!!! What's so special about slayer? The similar boring riffs, or the similar fucked up solos, or the inaudible bass!!? Without Lombardo's drumming slayer would be nothing
@@detts5082100%. He probably saw his paycheck. They screwed him over good. Horrible businessmen Araya and King were. They should've been on Metallica level but that's on them.
I’m taking Dave’s side too. He’s become an amazing musician.. look at all the projects he’s done, besides playing 100 miles an hr. W/slayer. He got dicked! Slayer is nothing without hanneman and Lombardo.
@@rdb71171nelson123 Actually they're better without Lombardo (rip jeff).....Bostaph has been in the band longer than Dave ever was and Slayer is better because of it.
@@leopardcubpupkryky6940 Wrong, Lombardo rules Bostaph anyday. Compares World Painted in Blood with any of the Bostaph records. Slayer is more than blast beats (out of the tempo in Bostaph case).
Respect to all the styles of each drummer. But in my opinion Dave gave the band that incredible solid style. And Latin rudiments within the band that were phenomenal. Dave, an original Cuban drummer from the Slayer band who left a very important mark.
@@tiagoshade I’m with you. Listen to him do the double bass part on angel of death at war at the war field and that tells me all I need to know about bostaph
That's no Lars moment. That's Dave purposely dragging the tempo in the beginning to fuck with the singer. Dave is in complete control here, unlike Lars.
Everyone trying to find subtle coded messages in this exchange. “It was about money etc etc.” Dave was clearly zoned out and flubbed a small fill and it made Tom laugh. End of story.
Slayer was always dysfunctional. Dave didn't get along with any of them, everyone hated Kerry...Tom and Jeff were the only ones who were remotely friendly, and Jeff really didn't like anyone.
Dave made Slayer the way they are (until he left his trademark drums) ... I was a guitarist at 14 when i first heard them and i"ve been a drummer for over 20 years after i heard South Of Heaven.... MASSIVE influence for me and always will be.. R.I.P. Jeff..
After south of heaven they became really boring. I think Dave started to dislike Kerry and Tom even more when he rejoined the band as they had become a fully developed business by then and Dave wasn't a part of that process. Out of the loop you could say!
Same here. Just because they never changed their sound, doesn't mean they never sold out. Metalheads can really be stupid sometimes. Slayer were complete sellouts in other ways.
Especially after you learn Dave was the one who asked Kerry to form a band, the one who came up with the Slayer logo, and the sole one who got them in Def American, where they became famous
Alot of you are missing what Tom did. He made Dave mess up because he messed up on purpose. Then Dave had to try and recover but Tom was still playing off beat until right before he began to sing.
What are you on about Tom was playing whole notes on the down beat about as straight and basic as it gets, he walks back to Dave to watch his hands because he's playing a really lazy "behind the beat" groove and Tom was trying to stay in time. Dave was spacing here and fucked up, it happens. Dave on record is amazing, his work on those early albums was top notch, for me I preferred Bostaph, he kept the time a lot more steady.
@@tommurrayGTR Tom was fkn with him it's pretty easy to spot if you've been around bands or played in bands. Why else would Dave flip him off like that and Tom is smirking lol
No I think Tom was playing slower just like the dude said and was fucking Dave up and then really started fucking him up and didn't get back on track until started into the song singing after the filler from the drums
joe strummer meant for tom. its kerrys band and tom sided with kerry on financial decisions that cost dave a lot of money he has every right to be pissed.
@@JBmusicart Yeah but his sentence was coherent enough to be understood easily. As long as it isn't a total garble of words, does this perfect spelling shit really fucking matter?
Go Dave Go! The best musician in Slayer! They wouldn't have been half the force without him. He should've auditioned for Megadeth and got a good contract.
I posted on Rush official RU-vid channel to obtain Dave Lombardo for one last tour. People responded by talking smack & laughing at the suggestion. I STILL SAY he'd be a perfect fit for Rush.
Dave Lombardo for me was the reason to listen to (some) Slayer (as well as Grip Inc. and other bands he was or is in). He just has a certain signature style, feel, groove and sound. I met him once when my band had the privilege to be the opening act for Slayer and Megadeth in Eindhoven years ago. Dave was really nice, and like many other drummers: funny and almost a little hyper-active. We met Tom as well, also a very nice guy. Kerry was kind of on his own and tcb. Pat O'Brian (Cannibal Corpse) was a supreme fill in for Hanneman. The guys from Megadeth were nice too. First, before showtime, Dave was just hilarious how he tried to maintain a "famous rockstar" attitude, but after the show he was just very nice and approachable.
I think Tom found it to slow in that part, you can hear that Dave slows down even more when Dave sees he is giving him the look,Tom has no choice but to follow the slow drums 😂
for the people wondering wtf they were laughing at.... as a guitarist and drummer. They were playing out of time purposely by the smallest bit just to piss each other off. On top of Dave making half what Tom was and holding in the anger.
Uhh..no. Dave Lombardo was a huge part of Slayers success and the other guys screwed him out of his fair share of money. As a drummer I may be biased, but many agree he was the most talented musician in the group..self taught, no reading sheet music.
Boon Doggle I’m thinking an uncredited Flemming Rasmussen must’ve been at the mixing desk for Slayer’s albums. There could be no other plausible explanation.
Slayer were great as an unit, the combination of the original 4 guys. They were like a commando, or something. Lombardo was the one improving his skills, his work on South of Heaven (North of Hell) it’s terrific. On that album he sound like a modern John Bonham on steroids, Allright?
Lombardo is one of the most influential and great metal drummers of al time, Tom will be remembered as a the vocalist of a slayer, and thats it for him.
Damn every single one of the big four is hated for something, and I thought Metallica was the only one Metallica because they supposedly sold out, apparently you can't make money from what you love doing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and for changing their style, and hating them more for coming back to Thrash, lol. Megadeth for supposedly being wanna be Metallica when Dave was a big part of the creation of Thrash and Metallica itself, and because Dave just can't play no more Slayer because of money issues with Lombardo and being repetitive And Anthrax for supposedly being just plain boring And in every single song of the big four there's always the little group saying "oh rip Metallica 1981-(insert whichever date you please)" or this on a slayer song "these guys should meet slayer" or "this isn't slayer! Slayer died in (insert whichever date you please)" or "Megadeth sucks! Blah blah blah, wanna be Metallica" People just need something to complain about I guess?
metal has it's own "hipster elitist" who just "has" to shit on something. it's "cool" to say that "KILL EM ALL is the only good METALLICA record" or "SLAYER went down hill after REIGN IN BLOOD".....& other stupid shit like that, but they'll rave about trivium or bullet for my valentine or amon amarth or something. THE BIG 4 will ALWAYS be my all-time favorite bands.
Except I’ve never seen anyone claim Megadeth is a wannabe Metallica... They surpassed Metallica in like every field of Metal.. And Dave is the reason Metallica sounds the way it did on the first 3 albums.. He thought James Herfield to play guitar and taught him his techniques. Some of their biggest classics are Daves songs.. Megadeth embodies Thrash and the frame of mind better than any band.. And helps having Thrashes founder as the founder of the band. Slayer on the other hand have been trying to repeat themselves since 1990.. And have never come close to producing a great album. Decent albums but that’s it.. Same can be said of Anthrax which are certainly improving compared to their 90s early 00s stuff. Metallica nobody in Metal consider them trend setters anymore.. It’s been a long time since they’ve produced something worthy of the name.. Hardwired is their best album in 25 years but that’s really not saying much as it’s quite average.. Megadeth have produced one of their best albums in years very reminiscent of the 90-95 period so good it finally won them awards.. Not that they need them.
Araya was always supposed to be the band's frontman, but I have in my mind that the only reason he picked up the bass is because the band couldn't have time to find anyone to play bass for them so they just went with tom
Stupid reaction from Lombardo's its usually a member looks to another member so...he thank Tom was changelling him wtf xD and went out of tempo AHAHAHAHHA
I always felt dave was fully appreciated within the band he was cleary angry at tom and possibly Kerry when he gave them the finger and made a face why he was never given more credit because he was a good drummer yet his name never appeared on any songs yet he must have ideas musically
Dave was getting screwed for decades. They first hated him for getting married, and saying he wanted two weeks off for a honeymoon, they told him no...Then bringing his wife on tour, and being happy lol Then, Rick Rubin had to bribe him to come back (Supposedly $40,000), then he got fucked again and left. Slayers management have a terrible reputation anyways, but not putting him down for ANY songwriting publishing was a major stab in the back. Dave did two legendary interviews for Metal Forces back then and he explained everything, including how much the band hated each other in detail, how none of the members have seen or have even been to each others houses and never talk. Particularly Jeff and Kerry.
In the 90s, Dave wanted to see the birth of his first child and he gave the notice in advance (apparently 9 months in advance) that he will take few weeks off so that he can spend some time with his new born child but Slayer just let him go and hired Paul Bostaph.
@@redrick8900 Yeah, I wouldn't say that he is an awful drummer but I don't like his stiff, technical and robotic style. Lombardo on the hand sounds very natural, groovy and fluid.
@@arvindshastry1178 I'm not saying he's an awful drummer. I haven't paid that much attention to him. He was awful at that show though. He completely lost the beat at one point. The whole band trainwrecked because of it. When they all agreed on a general tempo they all disagreed on the down beat and took turns deciding which one of them was right. This went on for like 12 bars. That was just the worst of it. He was sloppy, clearly went into the wrong part of the songs multiple times and had to adjust. It was full on incompetence.
Sad.... pure hatred but it happens in family's and distorted respect... the love is there... And not there... disconnecting is forgetting why you were friends to begin with. Business Isn't to blame.
clayton schiller No doubt I believe that if Jeff lived, Dave would’ve remained in the band. Remember, it was Jeff who insisted on Dave returning to the band in 2002.
No it doesn’t. Paul Bostaph is a freak and so is Gary Holt. Is what it is. If you think Paul Bostaph isn’t an insane machine behind the kit then do yourself a favour and listen to Divine Intervention. Try to keep a straight face while it’s melting. Respect where respect is due brother.
