Hi Linda, Emma looks very healthy to me and is full of buds. She looks very big at this stage and I do hope she does well for you. Although I love pink roses, I'm in the clan that was hoping for a different colour. My garden took a battering yesterday and the day before so I've been out today doing loads of deadheading. Your poor neighbour's plants. That was so good of you to rescue them. It's amazing how much damage can be done in the space of a few hours but we have to put it into perspective that we're all okay and the plants are tougher than we think and with a bit of sunshine will hopefully bounce back. I'm glad that your garden has come through okay. Someone gave me a Japanese Anemone and I'm glad that I kept it in a pot as I'd heard that once it's in the ground, it'll always send off little roots. I've got Lily of the Valley in my garden that can take over if I don't keep it in check. Eustacia Vye is a lovely rose Linda. I'd recommend her to anyone. I thought I'd lost mine earlier in the year but she was just slow to get going. Bit like me really! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. They seem to come around fast now that I'm retired but when I was working, they'd seem to take forever. xxx

@wendybartlett6717 Hi Wendy, I think Emma could be bigger than DA indicate. I know many were hoping for a red or perhaps orange offering so I understand how disappointing pink might be. I hope you get a nice surprise later in the year :) Sorry to hear about your garden. The rain has just not stopped has it? Thankfully my neighbours garden has drained now and she was happy her plants and her pot goose were saved when she got home today ! I think the farmer in the field behind her is checking the farm drains as that might be the cause, she's been here over 25 years and never seen it like that before so fingers crossed they fix it. Yes that Japanese Anemone ! I was constantly digging little new ones up, they just kept coming so it had to go. Emma looks like she fits the space much better for me. I've not grown Lily of the valley thanks for the tip just in case I get tempted :) Eustacia is still on my wish list, so many roses on my list but running out of room fast but having said that I'm planning on digging up some climbing Icebergs after this season is over as they are driving me mad with blackspot ! It will be an opportunity for a bit of a re-design which usually includes new roses ;) I hope you enjoy your garden this weekend, the weather looks better for tomorrow, today has been grey but mostly dry so I have been able to get some more plants from the green house planted. Have a lovely weekend, take care xxx

Hi Linda. I’m so gutted you had no flowers to smell. You’ll have to let us know with your astute nose what you think. I agree, to me it’s pretty close to Penelope lively. I love pink also but I have many pink roses. That said you must get Eustacia so don’t abandon the idea. Glad you got rid of the Japanese anemone. You may have seen from your garden it needs thinning out again. Small clumps ok but you got to keep ontop of it. Well best of luck I think those colours will go well in that new bed. I’m glad you said about the roots because I did wonder, if you look at the way it’s been pruned it’s almost like it was pruned deliberately to fit in a box! :) I’m not sure how old it is but it wouldnt surprise me if it’s been growing in that pot for sometime looking at the way it’s been chopped does that make sense? Best of luck :)

@Jay_Jay Morning Jay Jay, yes I know - no flowers ! I was so lucky with Penelope she had several open when I received her. Oh the anticipation haha She is full of buds so i am looking forward to having a good sniff soon ;) I was surprised and pleased by the root system, it has a really good root ball so yes I do think it's not just been potted up for the launch. I agree with you re. the pruning, I think she is definitely much wider than she appears at first glance which is a good thing for where I have planted her. I've been round the garden early this morning with my coffee and she does look very settled already in her new home 🌹

Hi Linda and thanks for your, 'First Impressions.' My first impression of your Emma B is that you've been sent a very nice plant obviously very well packaged. Your description seems to sum it up very nicely. I'll be very interesting to see how it grows for you. You apologise for having lots of pink roses. Join the club. Pink is so cheerful and did you know that pink goes with, nearly, everything colour wise; maybe not orange whether indoors or out. There's a story about custard too but I'll leave that one until my next video. The Emma B now looks very happy in the ground and has some very good company. They'll have lots to chat about. I think you're getting a lot more rain than we are at the moment too. I had a conducted tour around one of our subscribers garden yesterday and it's every bit as good as his videos and more. It turns out he only lives a very few miles away from me. Who am I talking about? Give us a J, and another J and, that's right - you've got it. P.

@peterhaymaker7562 Good morning Peter, yes I do have a predominance of pink in the garden with accents of purple blue and white I find it very harmonious. I did however keep the golden buddleia that rose like a phoenix from the ashes last year haha When we had the fencing people here to put the fence up at the end of '21 when we bought the place, they had to chop the buddleia down to the ground but at that time I had no idea what colour it was. Assuming purple or maybe white. So there is a touch of gold here but not by design ! It a Buddleia weyeriana Sungold there's a video on my channel of it here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z5IXzj7mz9Q.html I'm very curious about the custard now 🤔Hope Emma settles in well and enjoys her new home, I'm looking forward to having a sniff when she is in bloom. We definitely get much more rain here yes. Oh wow you lucky thing you got to tour Jay Jay's garden ! How fabulous is that ? So close, that's great you are almost neighbours I love that. I bet you really enjoyed meeting each other and sharing that love of roses is special. Oh if it was me I would have the secateurs out I would be worse than those pesky rabbits haha I am a cutting addict so it's a good job I am way up north !!! Have a lovely Sunday whatever you're doing, take care.

@@soulgirlktf Hi Linda, I hope you're having a good weekend. I had a look at the previous video about the Buddleia Weyeriana Sungold. I've not seen one before as far as I know. It's very nice even if it's not quite in your scheme of colours. Yes, I was very lucky to have a conducted tour of Jay Jay's garden. It's really good and interesting and I shall go back again when things change, as they do. He came to see me prior to that and will be coming back to film the Rural England which he was quite taken with. We're about 9 miles apart. I didn't take my secateurs. I'll tell you about the custard in my next video. My sons will be, 'Oh, not again!' when the see it. I did a quick video today as the weather's a bit unsettled for the next few days. Have a good Bank Holiday Monday. P.

Thank you for the video and thoughts of your new rose, i was interested to see the condition it arrived in to compare with the one i also received this week. I plan to have mine in a pot initially, and yes i agree that it does look as its going to be larger than tge ticket says, interesting to see the website says 4'. Like you i do love the pink roses in all their shades and even though i have many pink roses , i still find myself graviting towards them, be it in a nursery or just a neighbours garden :) I do however go nutty of the darker shades as well, and love all the colours wether it be orange/yellow/red/purple, was choked that i lost my munstead wood, but delight in Timeless Purple, Thomas A Beckett and my Darcy Bussel just hanging on :) Getting back to your rose, it looks like you will get to see and smell the rose before me as the buds on mine ate showing no signs of opening just yet. An aside can i ask what that other plant is on the table :) Good luck with your EM:)

Gez_rosa_newby Hi, thank you so much for watching, I hope your Emma arrived in good shape ? She does look like she could be bigger than they are stating, was yours a similar size to mine? I get the impression she could be wider than she looks when she arrived. Oh that is sad you lost Munstead Wood that is a dark beauty I hope you can replace it, not easy to find now but worth looking/asking around. Timeless is a lovely rose and healthy foliage for the most part and repeats well has a great perfume, Thomas and Darcy all lovely you have some beautiful roses. Yes hopefully in the next few days if the weather behaves I should be able to have a first sniff and when I do I will let you know, yesterday was a lovely day I got a lot done in the garden I was out early and finished late because today we have heavy rain and thunder storm warnings again grrrr ! Can't seem to get going lately just have to do my best on the good days. The plant on the table is a soapwort, it's a perennial I have several of them around the garden in containers, the variety is tumbling ted, grows very easily from seed and any cuttings root in a matter of a week or so, I do keep it in containers as i think it could takeover if planted in the ground, it is mostly evergreen, flowers for a couple of months and is very easy, no trouble to take care of and of course it's a beautiful shade of pink ;) Thanks again for taking the time to watch my video and comment, it's very much appreciated. I hope you enjoy Emma and let me know what you think of her when she flowers, take care, enjoy your garden.

@@soulgirlktf thanks for the reply, my Emma Bridgewater had some damage in transit, however it has a number of buds on it, I was curious about the bottom of the rose, it seemed bare, I contacted DA and they assured me that it's growing habit is like that. Hope that you get more dry spells so you can get done what you need to:) We are having showers also, but they seem light and sparse. Thank you for naming that plant, it is very pretty, unfortunately I can't have that as I have a dog and I believe it's not good for them . Hope your EM exceeds your expectations, I'm interested in seeing if Benthegardner is right when he says it maybe stronger in scent than Gertrude Jekyll, that would be something:)

@@Gez_rosa_newby Hi, I'm sorry to hear your rose arrived damaged, these boxes travel a long way and sometimes you wonder what they go through but it's never nice to receive a damaged rose. I hope DA can help. Interesting what you say about the growth habit, time will tell as she develops. Yes the soapwort I believe can be toxic if it is eaten by humans or animals although I think it's supposed to be very bitter so not attractive to animals. I very sadly lost my dog in April but I always had the soapwort in raised containers and still do and luckily for me, gardening wise, he was never a chewer of any plants but when it came to feeding roses if I put manure down he was very interested the first time I tried so I had to confine manure on roses to the front garden only where he didn't go ! I ended up that year, probably 2 years ago having to fence the rose off with make shift barriers for a few days until the aroma subsided and waited until he just ignored it again before removing it all :) Wow I did not know Ben had said that about the scent, that would be incredible, DA describe light to medium but having said that, they describe Penelope Lively as medium to strong and I would say Penelope is a really strong perfume. I hope your Emma does well and if not DA should replace it under their guarantee, currently raining here again oh joy, take care.

I did contact DA and sent pictures, they said the rose is fine and will pick up quickly, they waved the delivery and apologised for the damage, I'm sure it will be as it does seem to be very healthy:) I'm sorry to hear about your dog, they are such a blessing, I'm sure you miss your dog greatly. I noted that you were going to get Eustacia Via, I know in my case space is a problem when all you want is to buy the lovely roses I see and smell. I would encourage you if you have the space to get Eustacia though, I loved her so much I bought two lol. For a long time I put off getting Gentle heimnine and Emily Brontë, I got them both as a bare root and am very eager to see them bloom now. I am surprised at how fast GH has grown with so many buds already, very impressive:)

Hi Linda, I was hoping it was red , white or a climber , then would definitely give it a pass unfortunately the new releases happens to be my favourite colour. I’m visiting da garden this Sunday, hopefully I would get to see her in real life. If I’m to leave da garden with something, it’s most likely be Emma. Come on it’s rude to walk away empty handed don’t you think?

@kenvoong5977 Hi Ken, thanks for watching. I hope you have a wonderful visit to David Austin. I'm hoping to visit in June. You will probably be taken by something you had never thought of, when I was last there England's Rose would not let me ignore her and neither would Emily but I dont think either of those were on my list but that is the joy of being up close with the roses, something will grab you, have a lovely time and I can't wait to hear all about it 🌹

she is going to be tall for sure! I don't mind the pink, I think she just looks like a combination of everything we've seen in recent years with the button eye, pink petals and this sort of form reminding me of Penelope and jubilee celebration so that's a bit of a disappointment. Looking forward to seeing your feedback about the scent when she opens because that's a deal breaker for me.

@vorong2ru Hi, thanks for watching, yes I thought she looked tall too ! I agree, for those that have collected a lot of similar roses already I can understand the disappointment in yet another similar pink offering. If this rain ever stops and hopefully that will be soon 🤞I will update you on the fragrance.

I felt slightly targeted (not in a bad way) by that red/orange/yellow reference, Linda! But as you say we all have our preferences - that's what make our gardens individual and unique to us. I am really happy for you, that you have received such a large, healthy bush with so many buds and I am sure a lot of us will be very interested to see how Emma develops - who knows, you may convince those of us who are not quite so enamoured of pinkitude that we are missing out with this one! Have you got a Silas Marner? - I bought one last year on, I think it was, Gardener Ben's recommendation, and was very unimpressed, but maybe it was too much in the shade and doesn't like the restriction of being potted, because I saw Silas, well several Silases, in an Overdevest Nurseries video and then with Plant4Table in her Top Roses 2023 review and saw what he can do. Incidentally Plant4Table's video had my favourite Abraham Darby at the end , showing how well he can do too. Flooding! - I thought we'd seen the last of that until the autumn. Your neighbours are lucky to have you.

@nikkonch Hi Nik, haha red orange yellow works for many people so you are in very good company ! I do have Silas Marner yes, I bought him earlier this year. I have planted him in a new bed in the front, he is in with Summer Romance, Elizabeth and Penelope Lively oh dear that is a very pink sounding bed isn't it ? haha all my rose beds are a bit on the pink or pastel side though ! Let's face it my entire garden is ;) David from Overdevest can grow good roses, excellent clematis, amazing shrubs etc., they have a superb climate and certainly not as wet as here. If I were in the states he would be a go to supplier for sure he has a fabulous operation there and what a great chap too. I'm not familiar with Plant4Table I will check that out. Yes, the flooding gave me a shock when I went to open her greenhouse up this morning, had to run back to grab my wellies as it was at least 8 inches. Luckily all her plants are well above ground in there on shelving but her garden pots were everywhere and sunk. It was a mess at least 20 pots under water :( not to mention the pot goose who had floated away down to the rear fence haha he is drying off on her patio now, think he's okay ! Thanks so much for watching I'll let you know how Emma get's on and hopefully fingers crossed the rain behaves, take care.
