Wow! This man went from the range of deep voices like Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass to the high falsetto voices of Phillip Bailey and El Debarge in one song.
@Tammi Michelle 👊 WORD - UP Girl, I miss the 70's too 👊👊 Now, 2021 we got that B.S. Trap, so called hip-hop Bull Shit Travis Scott music -- & killing peo @ Concerts. OMFH
So do I Tammi, I'm just re-listening to this brilliant singer and song for the first time in a while. It brings a lump to my throat and tears to my 66-year old eyes. I imagine the 21-year old me dancing with those others in the film.
I'm a white kid from the Midwest raised on this kinda soul. I can thank my dad, a West Virginia kid full of soul. Thanks pops, and happy 70th birthday tomorrow! I love you and all the beautiful music you've shown me!
Susan R . The innocents of soul music -where did it all go wrong , its guns on the side and attitude tunes- if you can call them that. The 70's was my time - thank god.
It's interesting that so many of you have listened and liked this cut by David. What's even more interesting are all the comments, experiences and memories and to see that over 400,000 people have put an ear to this since I first posted it in 2010. Thanks!!
My greatest joys...and worst disappointments...as a young, maturing lad was witnessing the rise and decline of the original, amazing, tempting temptations, perhaps the all-time most versatile collection of individual, interchangeable entertainers EVER assembled!
Thank you for posting this song. I have to come back and listen to it several times a week. From Detroit--I remember when that studio was 'live.' I did not know I was watching living history. And could never imagine a world without the Temps.
Couple more people have watched since. Appreciate you posting this. I've been looking through David Ruffin's best performances. Love this song, lip synched or not.
My parents weren't the ones playing it. It was ME! I was listening to this music when I was 4 or 5 years old. I was always crazy about music. Me and my father both admired Teddy Pendergrass. LOL I used to try to comb my hair like him.
Nobody will get close to him The GREATEST SINGER ON THIS COUNTRY .MR DAVID RUFFIN. I M HERE 53 YEARS AND I DONT SEE ONE YET .THANKS AND RIP MY #1 SOUL SINGER ON THE USA.
stephanie i love you and the way you think rap will never be as good as this the young blacks have no soul harmony no meaningful lyrics what happened to us
I never tire of this song. Outstanding vocals from David. This music just makes you feel good … how lucky some of us have been to have lived and enjoyed this era. Thank you.
I wholeheartedly agree---his voice and the music just does something for the soul; we have to continue counting our blessings for each day to still hear such wonderful music!
what a truly gifted singer! David Ruffin had a tragic end to his life but I'm so thankful to have his voice still with us. This is one of my #1 top 10 songs ever!!!!
2021 and still listening! One of the best ever. One and only. Sorry you're gone so soon. Ain't no voice like yours David. Ever. Never. What a talent. Nothing like this nowadays. A darn shame. RISP.
My favorite music years were the 60's! Such love and class! I was a young white kid that never new that color was an issue! Just loved the beauty, voice and songs!
David Ruffin voice was soothing, graspy and strong all in one. He can hit those notes. His voice gave the words and the music real meaning. This era had the best music when Black Love was expressed and it still mattered in our communities. R.I.P David Ruffin- you will always be one of a kind in the music industry. There is not a voice like yours yet. 🙏🏾❤️
Truly one of the greatest voices of all time. You can actually feel his passion when he sings. You just don’t hear music like this anymore. David Ruffin was one of the great ones.
You can easy miss someone you never met if you listen to their music read watch all you can about them and they die you can't hear no new music watch nothing new about them so you miss them
❤It’s makes no sense or logic how he can change his voice like that. Truly a gift and blessing. Still watching in 2022 and I’m will still watch in 2023-etc.
BARRY WILLIAMS : OF COURSE IT HURTS .. BUT FROM THAT EXPERIENCE YOU GROW ..AND THIS MAKES US STRINGER AND IF YOU THE LUXURY OF FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN..YOU WILL TREASURE IT... BADARSE TUNE..
How in the world could someone smoke crack off & on for yrs and still have *_vocals_* like this? Truly *Lord* gave him this eternal gift for the joy in David's heart while singing in his beloved church ❣️A *divine gift* not even Satan's snares could bring down. *_Jesus loves when we have joy in our hearts for him! It shows sincere appreciation for his sacrifice._*
Flawless vocalist, I've listened to one hell of a lot of David Ruffin, never heard a poor performance. Genius!!! Rest in peace David Ruffin and Ali Woodson. Two of the very best Temptations, in my humble opinion!
What a tremendous talent! His voice range was truly amazing. He was in the outstanding class of singers such as Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Al Green and Eddie Holman. We miss you David, there's never been anyone quite like you and your talents. You left us too soon. RIP Mr. Ruffan
Even though I'm a 90's Baby, this music defined my childhood because my mother always played it in the car or around the house. It's nostalgic and reminds me of simpler times.
He's surely on, "The Night Shift" along with Marvin, Jakie, Sam, Nat, James, Luther, Eddie, Melvin, Paul and all of the other uniquely talented greats to numerous to mention! RIP.🙏❤
Of all the Temptations, David had the strongest voice and the deepest soul. As a Black man in my 60's, I've seem too many great Black male singers/musicians leave us too soon
There will be only one " David Ruffin " that shakes my soul...I will see you in Heaven in the master Concert in HEAVEN ..GO ON DAVID...YOU ARE THE BOMB
Even though David had a Drug Addiction and Alcohol Problem he always got on stage and expressed the feelings of every song that he sang, whether it was a love song, Depressed song or about his life, he made us love the song that he sung. His songs will always be a hit because he had that special gifted voice. Oh and his moves were on the money.
@@nealjones84 ok Neal I'm sorry guess l read it as if we shouldn't be still listening. I love it as much as you.... Usually don't even look at this often. But glad I got to see YOUR response...
My parents knew what they were doing by serving us this soul food. I miss my momma and daddy. Thank you for sharing and making a grown ass man shed a few tears of joy.
Omg one of the greatest voices of all time! The temptations were so owsome with David and with out him! I was 10 years old and loved these songs! I hate the music today!
I've watched this video a hundred times. But this time I witnessed him switching hands with the mic at the blink of eye and taking his voice to another level at the same time. That's talent !!!
I truly, truly enjoyed listening to David Ruffin's blistering songs, and I truly wished that he never allowed drugs to become a part of his psychic; the man could really blow. Despite his addiction and personal inner battles with his self, his vocals expressed his passion for singing in every song he sang during his musical career with the mighty Temptations! R.I.P., David. Your music and your voice will always be remembered. Thank you for the post.
We fell in LOVE back then, lawdy this music will never go out of style, it's all I listen to in my car and house, don't have a clue wtf they play on the radio now-a-days
Alyse B. Do you like David Ruffin as a solo artist? He did a lot of good work after leaving the Temps. Wanted to get your opinion. Also, wanted you to share some of what you listen to with me. Have a good day! Keep in touch!
Alyse B. Thanks for the reply. I, too, like jazz. I like some of the "old" stuff, like Miles Davis, for example. I listen to pop, but not new stuff. Guess, I'm stuck in a time warp, lol. Wonder
wesley andary Oh, I am not disputing this man's talent by any means. However, this was a lip sync. Soul Train/Bandstand were known for lip sync. However, Soul Train did two different "live" Al Green concerts that are both extraordinary. Both are here on YT.
You just expressed what Barry Gordy Jr was tryna do by establishing Motown...having music move people's hearts to see past color & realize how silly & unproductive racism is....
Pure soul from the best soul singer I stopped by his grave and there was no headstone. There was a stone in the ground with his face on it However it was covered with leaves and dirt. He was a troubled man but still he sang with true passion. His voice touches the deepest part of my heart
