Fr. Mike touches on one of his favorite bible stories about David's mighty men and discusses his attitude in old age. At the end of his life, David chooses not to dwell on his mistakes, but to recognize the people around him and the blessings he received, which helped him accomplish what God was calling him to do. Today's readings are 2 Samuel 23, 1 Chronicles 28, and Psalm 42.

Day 141..finally back to the morning routine..are we all ready to go? King David..the man with many titles.. Solomon is the chosen one to build the house of the sanctuary, may he learn to follow the Lord's statutes? My soul thirsts for God..when shall I come and behold the face of God..by day the lord commands his steadfast love; and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. Prayers for Father Mike and all the BIY family who are traveling through God's word together ❤ 🙏

Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. No matter what I’m facing in my life I won’t let go of Jesus! I keep crying out asking for prayers because, I know our prayers are stronger together so please pray for me. I’m struggling to provide for my two autistic children since losing my job over not getting the vaccine. I have pre existing health condition (Lupus) My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. Both of my sons are non verbal so things are more difficult for me. I don’t know how we are going to make it through this winter. We are facing eviction next month. I’m still waiting on the state for assistance. I’m so embarrassed of my situation. BUT NO MATTER WHAT I have Faith that God will provide!

King David came to the end of his life praising & thanking God & his mighty men who helped him defeat his enemies & unite the kingdom of Israel. David also let us his amazing Psalms.🙏❤️

That Psalm really hit hard, especially about tears for food. This path has been really hard, but He is worth every single tear that falls from my eyes. I cry because I feel unworthy, I cry because I could have died in unbelief and in gratitude because it could have been different. I cry because I fail, and I cry in relief when His love washes over me. I cry for my loved ones, and I cry for my enemies.

Father Mike, what a great lesson yesterday and today. Very timely for me, as I find that as I get older I can tend to sit back and be resentful of MYSELF for my mistakes, poor choices…yet when I do as you suggest and focus on how God has lifted me out … His grace has been, and is, amazing. Now today, tot remember to look beyond my own face, recognize not only was it God’s grace, but God working through others to bless me…to now give back…in big ways….in small ways…it all matters!❤

O Lord, I long for you. For I have eyes but I do not see; for I have ears, I do not heed; for I have a heart, I do know how to love. By the grace of YOU, I can glance YOUR presence when the deposition of my heart casts myself to YOU. For that grace, I see YOUR presence in a blow of wind, a warm touch of the sun light, a sense of leaping seconds, a dancing plastic bag down the street, the pain and suffering I encounter, the sorrow I have experienced, and faces of people around me. David screwed it up, but learned --- "when man rules justly over man: (all the good things of God)" beautiful expression, promises and delight of God. The first time I heard psalm 42, I couldn't stop crying. I still tear up every time I hear it. This psalm has affected me deeply.

An excellent life lesson from this episode. * We must be like King David and not accept gifts at the cost of others’ hardships. If we accept it once, others will again go through the hardships to bring more of that to us. That’s why King David didn’t accept the water from his mighty warriors. * David’s life lesson is indeed to give thanks to God in all situations, and look up from our story and look at others’ stories. Uplift others and not be bitter because of our setbacks or mistakes. The most important lesson is to have a heart like David and cling to God. * David guessed that his son Solomon would go astray due to lust and sins but still he tried to share his wisdom. Making of God’s temple and the books of Proverbs, songs are some of the best contributions by Solomon. * Psalm 42 shows the desire of God and how we must love God. We must love God like a thirsty wants water. Thank you Fr. Mike and Team Ascension, God bless you and the fellow listeners.

11:10 Father in Heaven, we give you praise. We do give you praise in all things, and God, thank you so much for Psalm 42. We are reminded that we cand ask the question, "God, where are you?" Actually, we're not only reminded that we have the question, "Where are you?" We get so often assaulted by that question. "Where's your God? If you believe in him, and if he's there for you, if he loves you, then point him out to me. Where is he?" Lord God, in those moments, we might be our own accuser. The evil one might be the accuser or those around us might be the accuser that asked that question. Yet in this moment, Lord, we know where you are. You are with us. Who you're for? You're for us. You're beside us at all times. Lord God, we give you praise and we thank you. We make that declaration of faith. That declaration of faith that is even when it is hard for us to know where you are. Hard for us to sense your presence. We have faith. We have faith that you are faithful to your promises. You have said you will be with us forever. You are with us at all times. Without you, we can do nothing. So with you, we cand do all things. Father, keep us close to you and never let us be parted from you, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. †

May 21, 2023 Round Two Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer: (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.) The Prayer of St. Gertrude Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen. God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

After listening to David’s end of life experiences, he seems to matching Erickson’s Eight Stages of Psychological Development. The last stage is Integrality vs Despair.

Strange that God was behind David when he slew Goliath and was victorious over Israel’s enemies many times, yet God doesn’t want David to build the temple because he was a warrior and has shed blood. Don’t understand that!

David raped a married woman and then sent her husband to the front of the battle line so he would be killed and not find out about David's misdeed. David then took the lady as his wife as she was with child. The Lord convicted David and David did repent. I think this might be the reason.
