Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

Solomon only asked for wisdom to judge the people. This is when being specific in prayer is so necessary. After years of following Christ, I’ve learned how important being specific is when asking for something. And yet I never totally get it right. It’s a lifetime of constantly being corrected by God to show He wants us to put more time and effort into what we ask of Him-from our heart, from our mind, from our life experiences; we learn how to ask perfectly. The Saints are terrific examples. I am far from perfect but I hope to reach that before I leave this world.❤

Fr. Mike, I thank God for you & your ministry! I have prayed for you every day since I joined your virtual front pew when our churches were in lockdown. I still join you at Mass most Sundays (in addition to, not instead of, Mass at church). I started the Bible in a Year journey with you on January 1, 202, finished on the last day, and am repeating it this year. Something new resonates each day. What a blessing! I will keep praying for you & all of our brothers & sisters journeying with us. Please pray for me.

Thank you so much dear Fr. Mike for this fantastic introduction about Solomon. Thank you also to Jeff Cavins for this great reading plan, I never started to read about Solomon from the First book of Kings and 2 Chronicles at the same time and I have to say, it was great. I would add the fact that Solomon was choosen by God despite how David and Bathsheba met each other. Another proof that God can choose you despite what others in your family tree could have done, everyone is unique. God bless!

In the Bible all God's chosen leaders are sinners, but strong men. Starting with Adam, Moses, Saul, Paul, Peter, David, Solomon, etc. That just proofs that we Earthly are weak and cannot accept God's way of living. But, we have been saved so things can only get better.

May 26, 2023 Round Two Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer: (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.) The Prayer of St. Gertrude Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen. God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy

Very interesting readings today. Strange that someone can be a great king, but a failure as a father. It is still happening today where fathers do not know what their sons/daughters are doing and when they do, they don't do anything about it. Give us all wisdom and knowledge dear Jesus to know how to act according to your will.

As a very young child I fell in love with Solomon and asked God to be the kind of smart that is helpful to other people. That was my prayer and I couldn’t wait to get home, kneel by my bed and pray it. Later in life through the great direction of a priest who knew me my entire life, I learned about obedience. I asked for help to be obedient to the magisterium of the church. I also asked to never fall completely out of love with God the way David did. These passages are very sweet for me.

12:15 Father in heaven we give you praise. We do give ou glory and honor. And there is no reason, when you are with us, when you are nearest for our souls to be cast down. Yes, Lord God, we experience grief, we experience suffering, we experience loss in this life and in this world. And so our hearts can be broken. But in all things, we can still have joy. We can still have this abiding and pervasive sense of wellbeing because we know who you are. We know your character, we know your heart and we know your steadfast love for us. Because of that, Lord God, we can have that abiding and pervasive sense of wellbeing. We can have joy in all circumstances, that even when our hearts are broken, even when our souls are tormented, even when our bodies are racked with pain and grief, that we do not have to be cast down because you are with us and you are for us and if you are for us, who can be against us? We give you praise, Lord God. So thank you. Help us, bolster us up. I mean strengthen us, Lord God, especially when the grief gets too big, when the suffering gets to become too much, when this day is overwhelming, strengthen us and help us take one step forward. Help us take the next good step, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. †

An important episode that shows why we must take care of the family and God’s will. *Platonic concubine Abishag, the Shunamite and David’s relation shows that David no longer has lust. *Adonijha was born after the rebellious Absalom, and was becoming king without King David’s consent. Joab and Abiathar were also on his side.- This shows how things are going unnoticed by David due to his illness and also the lack of spies/people to tell him the news from the kingdom. * Nathan and Bathsheba’s reminder helped Solomon be the King. This indeed shows how David had to be reminded to have this happen. What if this reminder event never happened? God’s will would have never been followed. Probably yes, but Solomon would have had to fight Adonijha to be the king. * We all need to take care of our family and young ones. Duty of a father or any parent is to know what’s happening at their home and in the family. Those who cannot take care of the family find it hard to take care of an organization, community, and in the case of David and Solomon, kingdom. Both David and Solomon failed as fathers due to their lack of supervision and discipline on their children. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Teach a child the way and he will not need to be told again. * Thanks to this episode, I discovered the fact about Solomon importing horses being a sin as per Deuteronomy 17:16 - The King shall not multiply his horses or cause people to go to Egypt to bring and multiply horses. * Wisdom is a great virtue but obedience is powerful. We can be wise yet disobedient and not good. Similar to Lucifer- the wise, bright and powerful angel that did not obey God. * May we exercise God’s gifts in accordance with God's will! God desires obedience and not sacrifice. May we all be wise and obedient * Psalm 43 is a great prayer to God in the time of trouble! Thank you so much for your priceless commentary and analysis, Fr. Mike! Thank you Team Ascension for this gift. God bless you and the fellow listeners!

This is my second time doing BIY podcast. Each time I find I am understanding and enjoying scripture even more. I receive a news magazine from our diocese on a monthly basis. The main subject was synod. I am confused. I understand that LB community is considered a sin according to scripture and having married and women priests are not considered in the church as well as divorced couples to receive the Sacraments but according to synod documents this is all welcome. Can someone enlightened me?

Wisdom is in relation to what the person is looking at. Solomon looked away from God and thus his wisdom stops factoring God and Godly things in. By looking away from God Solomon reduced his wisdom to only being of this world rather than that of God.
