It’s just wacky fun with an interesting lore and great characters. The filmmakers knew exactly what they wanted and pulled it off flawlessly.

As a kid I know we rented Return of the living Dead 1000 times! My wife had no idea it existed, so imagine the joy I felt when she saw it for the first time. She instantly fell in love! I can quote this movie scene for scene!

When I was in 2nd grade in the 80s, I remember an older kid on my school bus told me that Return of the Living Dead was based on a true story. Plus he told me this right as we were driving by the cemetery a few hundred yards down the road from my house. So... That was my nightmare fuel for the rest of the school year. 😂

I love of these 1985 zombie movies. "DAY" had some awesome zombie effects, death scenes, and great characters, especially Rhodes. "RETURN" had memorable quotes, funny quotes, and great dark humor.

I absolutely love these films. I watched the Dead trilogy spending weekends with my dad. He did not bother with monitoring my consumption, so I watched the original Dead Trilogy by the time I was 9 or 10 years old. Mix in with that Life Force, Night of the Creeps, and Prince of Darkness. So glad to see this video, fun and terrific content. Thanks!

I watched ROTLD one Halloween night while home by myself when I was a kid. Never been so terrified! ‘Born In East LA’ was playing on another channel and I kept flipping over to it whenever I got too scared 🤣 Spent the rest of my life trying to find another movie that could scare me as bad as that movie did that night. Definitely shaped my life. Even my taste in music. Still to this day The Cramps are one of my favorite bands. Named one of my children after Lux Interior.

Several years ago, a newer coworker of mine was working alone in our backup call center at work while I was working in our regular offices. At times when over at that building, it would usually be just myself alone on the third floor with only the security guard down at the main entrance. He texted me and mentioned how the thought it was creepy over there by himself. That's when James Karen's talk at the beginning of Return of the Living Dead popped in my head, and I told him I was creeped out over there at times because of the bodies in the basement. Modifying James Karen's speech from the movie, I told him that the building used to belong to the army (hence why there was a chain link fence around it and other features). I told him that there'd been a spill of a chemical the army had been testing at OSU that had reanimated some corpses and that the bodies had been put in containers in the basement of the building to keep hidden, and when the army moved out and sold the building to our company, the containers had been left behind. I then told him that we weren't supposed to talk about it, indicating that since I'd been with the company several years, I'd found out about it. While I was texting him all this, I was also texting another coworker who was also friends with the guy before he'd started with the company, telling her "If Paul starts asking about bodies in the basement over at the other building, just tell him we're not supposed to be talking about it." So, on his morning break, my newer coworker went exploring, finding out that not only were there no bodies but that there was no basement and that the army never owned our building.

As a horror filmmaker, I know some of the people involved in these films. Howard Hoops Berger, John Amplas, Lori Cardille, Clu Gulager, Don Calfa. I've been in a film with James Karen. And the granddaughter of Judeth O'Dea illustrated the cover of my zombie book. Zombie fiction has been in my DNA since I was 7 years old and the video for Michael Jackson's Thriller came out. The making of documentary for that video is what made me want to be a filmmaker. Day of the Dead is my favorite zombie movie, with Return of the Living Dead being a close second.

Good video!! Can remember growing up during the 1960s-1970s that zombies were my FAVORITE unnatural creature - always thought that being killed by a zombie was the worst possible way to die. Vampires...OK. Werewolves...pretty awesome...but Zombies!!! Something about being torn apart got your attention better than getting the blood sucked out of you. Can also remember that any movie dealing with zombies, I was there begging my mom to take me to see AND the movies were far and in between back in those days so APPRECIATED them better no matter if the movie was good/bad. Now a days, Zombies....OK but still a terrible way to die. Also, when "Night of the Living Dead" came out I was 5 years old and can still remember people saying how that movie literally gave them nightmares, for there was really nothing to compare it with back then. Got to visit the filming locations of "Night" in Evans City, PA, a few years ago: the cemetery, grave site, farmhouse, and downtown where there are historical plaques honoring the film and also to the movie, "The Crazies". Anyway, LOVE these 2 movies that were covered in this video but think I like "RETURN" better for it is just bonkers - watch that movie every October.

Has to be the 60s - 80s Zombie movies that i remember and love the best, i started with NOTLD original, aged 8, i loved black and white movies as at the time (1990) my folks could only afford a black and white tv lol. I remember watching Dawn of the Dead in black and white, and Day of the Dead, the return of the living dead was the first one i watched in full color and was blown away by home much the genre changed over that 15-20 years (from NOTLD - The return) but i really dont like running zombies - thanks Mr Snyder.....

DAY I loved cause I was in my phase of watching highly acclaimed movies. I was in bed laptop on my chest there was still light peeking in through the window. When it was done it was completely dark. I didn't get up so my entire house was dark. Idk it just hit me differently. "Return" I love cause of course the campiness but the scene with the one half zombie strapped to the table. "I can feel myself rotting" idk why but that was so fucking scary to me.

Back then i was a scary kid. i mean horror movies i liked,some.But they scared me. I remember going to the movies to see something in 1985. While waiting i saw the poster of 'Return of the living dead' with the drawn zombies on it. i already knew, "Nope! not for me." About a year later we were at my friends house for a sleepover. Were flipping channels and on HBO it said "Coming up next. The Return of the living dead". Every kid in the room was like "YEAH". I said "no" so i spent the next 2 hrs in another room waiting for it to be over. LOL I eventually saw it like 3 years later after I saw part 2 which was basically a zombie movie made by Disney. Return of the living dead is my favorite zombie movie of all time.

I've said this in other comment sections but, me and my next door neighbor had two albums between us. We would play G.I. Joes & listen to The Beastie Boys (his album) & The Return Of The Living Dead (my album). My mom bought me the picture disk, little did she know that the other side of the disk had Linea's (Trash) boobs. My record disappeared about 6 months later...

The villain of Day of the Dead is Dr. Logan not Captain Rhodes. He deliberately conducts experiments on the dead military personnel (who are taking almost all of the physical risks for what amounts to nothing) as well as feeding them to his exotic pet, yet for some reason the movie wants you to sympathize with him.

ROTLD has been my favorite Z-flick, love at first watch. Best zombie ever: Tar Man Hottest Zombie Ever: Trash Bert & Ernie! One liners out the wazoo. So much more Had a spat with my little brother because he still believed in Spiderman at ten years old. So I told him, ok, now I'm gonna show you what's going on in the real world, so I fired up the VCR. Of course that intro, based on real events(sorry not verbatim) helped me out. He was absolutely horrified after it was over, I told him the zombies were only a few days away from us, he ran around frantically for close to a week wondering why nobody cared. What did you learn little brother? Sucks that the genre is oversaturated these days, I can't get into it anymore thanks to the Walking Dead. Was a fan since the mid 70's after watching Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things as a wee pup on late night TV, but it's played out these days, & that breaks my heart.

@Galantski
@Galantski 8 месяцев назад
_Day of the Dead_ isn't the weakest of the trilogy, but the _strongest!_ My source for that claim had the most unimpeachable grounds for such a pronouncement, none other than George Romero himself, who called it his favorite of those films. Among it's memorable characters is one of the maddest of all mad scientists in Dr. "Frankenstein'' Logan (he feeds his "domesticated" zombies human entrails from a bucket), one of the most dangerously psychotic of all villains in Captain Rhodes, the most strangely sympathetic and even loveable of all zombies in Bub, and Dr. Sarah Bowman, who would be a tough-to-the-end final girl, were this a slasher film.

when all the kids in the neighborhood would take out our toy guns in the mid/late 80s and played return of the living or night of the living dead or some other type of 80s movie i would always pick the role of Captain Rhodes for obvious reasons.

In a weird way, I always thought Return of the Living Dead had a lot of similarities with Robocop. Robocop had great gore, some zany humor and goofy antics, but it was actually a very tragic movie. Return of the Living Dead also has gore, silliness and campy fun, but it's a pretty bleak movie where things just get worse and worse.

Yeah, sorry Creed fans...both of you. I've always loved Day of the Dead. It is certainly the bleakest of the first three films (and I'd argue the bleakest of all subsequent movies). It had no humor, no send-ups, no satire. It was dark social commentary, and essentially said "Humanity sucks, we are the monsters, the zombie hordes are just more honest about it."
