Its kind of weird we have some ps4 games that look great. I don't see why dcuo couldn't look like it does on ps5 on the ps4. None the less it looks better but not game changing. Until they shutdown the ps4 version i wont change to the ps5 version.
I’m going to give you the technical answer as to why isn’t possible for DCUO: Let’s say there are 485 players in an area who can see each other. Player 1 sees 484 players and himself Player 2 sees the same (484 players and himself) All the way down to player 485 who sees 484 players and himself. Now if this was a single player game and those 485 players were instead NPC, there would be 485 “assets” being calculated. Since this a MMO you have 235,225 (485x485) “assets” being calculated. Now, on top of that add visuals, like different movements, different powers, different emotes etc. and the engine is trying to calculate them both visually and numerically in the right sequence. That’s why the game has always lagged whenever there are huge battles on the screen. Now, let’s say you have push the engine to the max to support an MMO with so many different variants… the moment you add something that adds more strain to the engine something is going to give, that’s why the PS5 update is performing how it is right now. The games that look better on PS4 are either on UE4 or if they are UE3 they are single player games or shooters.
Honestly, coming into this update, I wasn't expecting a big difference at all. Playing on the PS4 client and mainly the PC version when filming, I figured it would just be shadow and grass texture features that the PC clients already had to offer. Which it was. So I never really understood the entire hype campaign behind this.
It's kind of insane it took them over 3 years to push this out for a slightly higher resolution. If they put more effort into making the game look better and more modern instead of loot boxes and store items, it would go a long way for the longevity of this game.
This isn't including that it looks better in combat aesthetically now due to the better frames, lighting, ect that dropped with the PS5 client. I know the PS5 is probably hard carrying a lot but it is an improvement.
They need to make DCUO 2. There can be battle passes with raid and alert resets attached. They can sell legend characters (as long as they are not OP). I'm getting monitization out there first, because it's a buisness. The Devs should also follow the FF14 DLC schedule where you get a big one year and quarterly small ones. Obviously, it should be done UE5. We should get yearly raise in level cap, new powers, and abilities. How do people feel about this?
