Thanks Judge Dave! Ensoul Artifact was a much better example than the one I had originally. 😊

Thank you! I spend a lot (A LOT) of time thinking about what the very best card is to illustrate all the points I want to talk about and what kind of side questions might be interesting. And you are very good at coming up with interesting questions!

I have an idea for a video, if not already done. If I turn a permanent into a artifact with something like liquimetal coating until end of turn, and then attach a mechanized production to it, will the mechanized production remain attached to the permanent after the end of turn? I have to imagine there is 'possibly' a ruling stating that something with enchant artifact can't remain to something that is no longer an artifact after the end of turn, but it's be awesome to hear it from an official judge!

If all aura is attached to something it can't enchant, it will die as a state based action. It's enchant ability helps to determine what it is allowed to enchant. 303.4c: If an Aura is enchanting an illegal object or player as defined by its enchant ability and other applicable effects, the object it was attached to no longer exists, or the player it was attached to has left the game, the Aura is put into its owner's graveyard. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

@@shadow_flame2223 To further elaborate on 'other applicable effects', it's pretty much just 'can't be enchanted' effects (see Consecrate Land), and effects that grant protection (from some property that the aura has).

Howdy Judge Dave, I appreciate the daily rulings and was hoping you'd take the time to go into what "ignore" means for the sake of the rules since I couldn't find a definition for it in the comprehensive rules. The card that tipped me off on this was Volrath's Curse. I'm curious to see if ignore truly means "treat it as though it doesn't exist" or "it exists, but you don't have to listen/do this one thing".
@JudgingFtW
@JudgingFtW Месяц назад
This is the relevant rule in the CR. From my reading, it seems the latter interpretation you suggested should be the correct one. Hope this helps.: 116.2d Some effects from static abilities allow a player to take an action to ignore the effect from that ability for a duration. Doing so is a special action. A player can take such an action any time they have priority.
@mayonaise000

@@JudgingFtW thanks. It definitely helps in the clarification of "ignore". For the sake of volrath's curse, could someone use that as an infinite sac outlet or is that a sacrifice a thing once per turn? Asking for a timmy

Thanks for all the videos! I've learned so much about the rules of a game I haven't played for years! I have a question about Helm of the Host: I control Helm of the Host, not attached to anything, and Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist. I go to combat. Does helm of the host trigger even if it is not attached to a creature, so that I can order the two triggered abilities to first equip helm to a creature with Ardenn, and then have helm create a copy of that creature?
@bluerendar2194
@bluerendar2194 Месяц назад
> Does helm of the host trigger even if it is not attached to a creature Yes, it only checks equipped at point of resolution. Otherwise, it would say "if helm of the host is equipped to a creature..." > I can order the two triggered abilities to first equip helm to a creature with Ardenn, and then have helm create a copy of that creature? Yep! Pretty cool interaction.
@Quroe_
@Quroe_ Месяц назад
Can confirm. Arena triggers the helm even if there's no equipped creature at the time.

Hey, Judge Dave! I've been having some questions regarding how Maskwood Nexus interacts with certain things. You may have a video on it that I've missed, but if not, think you could ever cover how effects like Maskwood Nexus interact with Morph? There are plenty of cards that allow you to cast certain creature types from the top of your library, but Morphs have no creature types, but Maskwood Nexus gives them creature types? It's all so confusing! Hope you're well, Judge Dave!

This is a layers question! And yes, the layers work the way you'd expect. See any video discussing layers in detail for the rules details.

Hello Judge! Question: How many targets does "Curse of the Werefox" have? If I target my "Zada, Hedron Grinder" with it, will Zada copy the spell?
@seandun7083
@seandun7083 Месяц назад
Two unless you decide not to fight. "attached to target creature you control" "fights up to one target creature you don't control" If you get the role and a fight, Zada won't copy it. If you only get the role, Zada will.

I never played magic but i wanna start it,si that's maybe a simple and stupid question. If i have 2 creatures in play,with both having as long as it attacks,and I attack with both,which creatures ability would go first?
@seandun7083
@seandun7083 Месяц назад
If the ability says "whenever attacks" (such as Escaped Experiment) , then it is a triggered ability. If you have two triggered abilities that trigger off the same event, you can order them however you want. If an opponent also has some, then the active player (whose turn it is, which in this case is you) puts theirs on the stack first, meaning they will resolve last, then everyone else puts theirs on the stack in turn order. If it is worded "at the beginning of combat on your turn" (like Sokenzan Smelter), then it is a triggered ability that triggers at the start of combat, before you get the chance to declare attacks. If the ability is instead worded "as long as is attacking..." (like Wardscale Dragon), then it is a static ability. These don't need to use the stack, they are just true as long as the condition is met. "When", "whenever" or "at" will denote a triggered ability.

What if you control a non-artifact creature and temporally turn it into an artifact (say with Liquimetal Torque) then enchant it with Ensoul Artifact? What would happen when the creature ceases to be an artifact?
@seandun7083
@seandun7083 Месяц назад
If it can no longer legally enchant the thing for whatever reason such as because it changed types, it will go to the graveyard the next time State Based Actions are checked. That's why Imprisoned in the Moon and Swift Reconfiguration need to be able to enchant the type that they turn a permanent into. 303.4c: If an Aura is enchanting an illegal object or player as defined by its enchant ability and other applicable effects, the object it was attached to no longer exists, or the player it was attached to has left the game, the Aura is put into its owner's graveyard. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

Actually, the video reflects what I intended. The instruction on One Last Job is to return it attached to a creature; this is true whatever type of aura is being returned. In contrast, it would not be possible to return Ensoul Artifact attached to, for example, a Darksteel Citadel this way unless there was some effect independentaly making the citadel into a creature.

@@JudgingFtW Thanks, I was only looking at Ensoul Artifact when I made my comment, and had forgotten One Last Job by that point. There's a reason you're a judge and I am not.
