I personally won't be buying an Aptera because the vehicle's design doesn't cater to all my needs, BUT... I really love everything that this vehicle stands for! I hate it when people act childish in the comment section because of their inferior thought process of "If this product isn't for me, then this isn't for anyone!"

Fair... I will because a EV sports car (don't car about solar) is what I want, Aptara has a place. Other EVs do also.

Equally enraging is "This works for me, so you have no excuse not to get one", or "I drove across your state once, so EV charging will be no problem for you".

It looks good, it would suit me well, it just is not a product to make a business around. The market for two seat unique looking EVs is finite, and there just is no second Aptera model, right? There will never be an Aptera SUV or truck or sports car or four door sedan, right? Once the people who want an Aptera have one, that is it. Maybe that is a lot of people, it doesn't matter, if they have an Aptera they will not buy from the company again. So you have an EV that is affordable, so low margins, and you need to have high volume production to break even or make profits, and maybe you can sell 200,000 a year and make a little profit for a bit, but then you will run out of buyers eventually and be done for. On top of that, Tesla will have their affordable EV coming for the same price or less with four seats and a lot more tech and features. Sure, never charge, great, a lot of people will take the Tesla even if they have to drive somewhere to get charged.

@@1voluntaryist uhm, no. Lots of other things were said about Tesla, no one ever said that Tesla would not be able to make various models of EVs. Tesla announced the Model S in 2009, having only made less than a thousand Roadsters. Lots of people have called every model Tesla says they will make "vaporware," but that is very different than noting that the whole design philosophy and selling point of Aptera cannot be applied to different kinds of EVs. Good car, nice people trying hard, might even be a car I end up buying, but not a viable business in the end.

I see this as the same as complaints across the internet the day after the Jay Leno Aptera review, complaining loudly about wobbly wheel pants on the Alpha model. It was an issue, up until it got fixed, and then it just wasn't a problem anymore. Today that issue is all but forgotten. Similarly, the CNBC Gamma prototype demo will be forgotten once the production-intent, Delta model (which has all of the systems functional) is shown, tested and reviewed later this year. Delta is what I'm really looking forward to seeing. And that is where Aptera needs to be spending their money, to bring my favorite EV into production in 2024. 🚗🌞

When i was growing up, i was told by many people that i had a great mind. they may have said this primarily because i asked a lot of questions about everything i saw, and everything i didn’t see, but was equally interested in understanding the seen and unseen. i was also simultaneously told that having a great mind is useless, if it is not used in a way that contributes to humanity. as a young child i was very interested in understanding these most important thoughts, that were consistently being shared with me. it seems to me, that anyone that chooses to use their great mind, to put down innovation, could be said to not be using their mind, in a contributory to humanity, way. i know that we each want to build a better world for ourselves, and equally, for others. i think your video may help remind everyone, that in a way, we all have similar goals. to contribute, to build, to make, to share. what shall we create today!

It makes me wonder if some people want this car to fail. I'm not worried about the Aptera going up hill. The autocycle looks awesome! ✅ - Right-to-repair ✅ - 350 MPG equivalent ✅ - Quick acceleration ✅ - Off-grid solar charging ✅ - Charging Port! ✅ - Doors that go like this ↕ / Not like this ↔ I still haven't decided what to do about the Aptera. It checks a lot of boxes - except price. It's kinda expensive (at least at first) for a two-seater. If it qualified for the $7500 tax credit, then it suddenly becomes very competitive. Why is the Aptera so much more expensive than something from Wink Motors? Is the difference between 35 MPH and 65 MPH really double or triple the price? (The 400 mile range is a big expense. Too bad there isn't a 125 mile range version. If it could be just a commuter car, or groceries fetcher, then perhaps such a big battery isn't necessary… or maybe the battery could be upgradable later.) Also, the SUV thing is mainly about families. If this is just a drive your Aptera to work and back, it's outstanding. But what happens if you need to pickup a kid at school, or drive a toddler to Grandma's because your other car broke down? It looks like child seats are a problem for the Aptera. …and don't tempt me about making my own electric vehicle though. I have been considering it. 😄
@benjamindbarr
@benjamindbarr 10 месяцев назад
I understand your thought process but a car isn't for everyone, I had a Ford mustang but I had to sell it when we were getting ready to start our family as it didn't fit carseats in the back. Yeah an aptera wouldn't work for me where I currently am as we have a 2 car driveway and a third car would eat I to our vacation money... but there are plenty of people in our neighborhood with a 3rd car where the third car is a commuter or the the play car depending on which way you look at it. And a good mix of those third cars are small 2 seaters or basically 2 seaters. For me once the kids are grown and maybe out of the house, owning this car is on my to-do list, so I still have a decade for them to get going on production. As for the price, it starts less then a Mazda miata and other 2 seaters so it's price isn't actually that crazy... unless your saying that all car prices are crazy... which I wouldn't disagree with.
@PhoticsTV

@@benjamindbarr I miss having a Mustang. Unfortunately, it started rusting pretty bad. It felt not so safe. Otherwise, I'd probably still have it. Big appreciation for you Tailosive EV and your defense of the positivity (Aptera) against mindless negatively. You probably already instinctively know something so obvious that its not worth mentioning. But given the mindset and education level of the haters, maybe it's worth this time, to mention the obvious: basic Physics and Econ 101. Within few years, these haters will buy their 6,000-9,000 pound EV's, each requiring daily 300kWh cable-melting charging. These ubiquitous "Amp Hogs" will cause the price of grid electricity to skyrocket, cause frequent brown-outs and blackouts, electricity rationing, and curfew times. To believe that the grid will be able to keep up with the spike in demand is delusional. In a few years, EV's like the F150EV, Hummer EV, or even a Mustang EV will be too costly to charge, too impractical to run, and will have nearly zero resale value. They'll be parked outside to rot in the sun instead of using the sun's power for actual transportation. Their owners will only be able to use them as sitting benches to have snacks or lunch while watching solar-powered Apteras drive by.

@TailosiveEV and don't forget that the Aptera can add 13 miles of range on a 120v level 1 outlet if that's all you have which is faster than every other EV on a level 1 charger. Solar panels are pretty good against hail. I have standard solar panels bolted to a rack on my van and I’ve seen 1” hail stones bounce off in a million pieces. Tempered glass ftw. I mean, go to a hail sale and check the damage. Sunroofs are usually good, since they’re tempered. Also, dumb kids throw fly ball rocks at my panels sometimes and they bounce off. I come out and stare them down with some “persuasion”. I never see the same kid do it again. As far as tree limbs, aren’t you going to insure your Aptera with comprehensive? If anything happens, it can be repaired or replaced for only like $20 extra per month in most states with a $0 deductible. I’d pay the $20 for insurance and not have to pay that $20 (or more) for the monthly electricity to charge it.

I am very supportive of Aptera even if some feel I am not. Aptera did an incredible job of turning the lack of DCFC into a media turnaround that did and incredible job in getting the word out. Chris and Steve listened to us and in 3 days reversed their stand on the DCFC capability in LE and decided to include it. Really great job in turning a negative into a positive thing. The NBC interview could have be another turn a negative into a positive but they did not do that. A gamma prototype by definition is in the final stages of testing. The Gamma vehicle was said to have a 42kWh battery and while the body construction and even shape is a bit different than Delta, it was presented as a more complete vehicle then the Alpha vehicles. While they can say they rushed putting Gamma together for Fully Charged in 2022, they had indicated that a gamma vehicle would be seen as early as July 1, not September. Aptera has said that they are retrofitting Gamma to be more production like. Well if that is the case, let's see it climb hills both slow on hot days and fast on hot days. Sure we can wait until December for Delta but you are not likely to have the same heat as they had in late July. Now I truly believe that Aptera can easily go up a hill in hot and cold conditions, both slow and fast but perception is incredibly important at this stage of their development. Had they taken Gamma and retrofitted it to be a real gamma vehicle and had someone outside Aptera drive it in hot conditions with the AC on to showcase the skin cooling, that would have be awesome. While that might still happen and I truly hope it does sooner than later, the opportunity has sailed and we are still talking about the NBC interview and not turning this into a positive media experience. Stuff happens in interviews or presentations. I really know that as I have had my share of oh sh!t that wasn't to happen moments but it is not the fall but how fast you get up and correct things that is important. It is taking a negative moment and making it a positive opportunity that we were looking for. Instead, very little has been said by Aptera and it was not made into a positive experience. I really wish I could say, yes, the Gamma overheated in the NBC interview but did you see how quickly they completed their gamma vehicle as a real gamma vehicle and went cruising up that hill in 100F heat? Opportunities make and break companies. I am hoping my investment was not wasted, not because it overheated but because they failed to turn this around and get the investment money that is needed to go into production.

I agree with you 100% that there should be zero gripe about the existence of a cosmetic prototype with limited performance. And, folks whining about this are unreachable. The real issue isn't that a prototype like this exists or even that it gets shown off, its that they let it be driven under conditions they didn't control on what was probably their first really big opportunity to reach a mass audience that isn't on a tech/EV specific channel. I want Aptera to exist and be successful. Unlike Tesla with the CyberSmash or Apple with the failed charging base, Aptera isn't already a household name. They don't have a history of successful product launches or a revenue stream of any kind. There's no reputation of past execution or performance to help folks give them a pass. Aptera is at a crucial point where they need more funding to launch and every potential and current investor who's able to look at this objectively suddenly got cold feet when that video aired. Not because Aptera is failing to execute on design and engineering, but because they appeared to be failing at these on their first big stage... first impressions for millions of people, were "that car can't climb a hill" and investors see their impressions. Aptera has to run a tight ship on both the technical side and the PR side, or they won't thread the needle. This looked sloppy. So, rather than use your platform like this to address the masses of morons who aren't along of the journey anyway, I'd like to see you use your influence at Aptera to say, "Hey WTF?!? Get your shit together because you've got potential."

@@Murzi10Thanks - I reckon mid '25 is a fair estimate for RHD EU/UK spec, once the regulatory niggles are sorted through, hopefully from an EU production facility that might be in the same place in Italy where the carbon fibre body structure is made. It would solve a lot of the charging problems for folks with no driveway! Realistically, UK would get 5-25 miles a day from solar since we have more variance from summer to winter than southern California. Things that aren't so good for London - it's actually quite big, with the road footprint not really any smaller than a Tesla, plus the width across the front wheel covers is like a Range Rover, and the latest prototype still has a turning circle wider than most cars (production model should be better, though the current wheel cover design stops very tight turns).

All those hopping on the bandwagon of how the Aptera didn't do this or didn't do that, are proving once again how mindless, robotic and unoriginal they are. They are incapable of viewing the facts and recognizing the timeframe required to engineer/design and actually build a manufacturable innovative vehicle like Aptera. It's way to easy for these naysayers to sign up to the mindless parade of naysayers who wouldn't know or understand true innovation if they tripped over it. Bugs and hiccups on the way to true novel invention are the norm, NOT the exception. These are good things for Aptera engineers to see and understand. That will make for an exceptional peoples' car once production begins.

Aptera has done so. And there are three cooling systems in the vehicle. I signed an NDA when I visited the factory, and can not talk about more than has been publicly revealed, but I have extensive experience in thermal engineering, including designing and helping to build a samples freezer for the ISS. I have no basic concerns about the cooling. We know FAR more about it than we do about the Cybertruck system, for just one example. Once all the IP is in place we will know much more detail.

Last week's Huntington Beach US Open of Surfing was the first time I got to see the Gamma in person. The first thing I did was to get shots of the in-wheel motors (the wheel-pants inner covers were removed). Indeed the coolant hose connections were not connected to anything. It was also apparent that the Gamma's Elaphe motor is similar (if not the same as the Beta's and Alpha's (and not the new smaller/lighter and cooler running Delta/Production model. You are likely spot-on in saying that Aptera is channeling all resources towards production instead of trying to make the Gamma prototype into a production ready vehicle. Aptera probably assumed that rational people would realize that the Beta, with its makeshift tiny radiator, was able to blast around all day with drag strip/high speed desert runs, moose test slalom tire runs and suspension testing runs would be enough proof of the Aptera's motor cooling system viability. The present commotion about the recent overheating events, then is really more a commentary about the people causing the commotion, rather than about the Aptera.

People who want a solar vehicle, people who want a sporty & efficient 2 seater & people who want the most futuristic looking car will want Aptera. Price is low enough that middle class couples might see this as an affordable commute car. Rising energy prices and high cost of DC fast charging help Aptera, but they will still be working through their reservation list in 2025 when the first Tesla next gen arrives. Even if it starts at $32,500, it has a tax credit. If Aptera can qualify, they can compete.

I am cheering on Aptera, but to compare TSLA and Aptera is not as logical to me. Tesla had been producing vehicles for many years before that period when the Model 3 was going into production, Musk was calling Apple and they were not answering, but it also turned out there was more money out there for Tesla if they really had needed it. I have run across a few stories saying Musk overstated how close Tesla was to being done. Aptera sadly has gone bankrupt before. They still have not produced their first customers cars. On top of that, they are pushing a product that is very different. Most people will just look at an Aptera and freak out. They will not take the time to learn who was helping with the design, what progress the have made, using consultants like Sandy Munro, and so on, makes Aptera not appealing. That makes getting investors harder. I was disappointed with the two seat package. That takes out a chunk of the market, including me. It was very sad to see the vehicle cutout during the NBC drive. Yes, that was blood in the water for the haters. We all know EV haters and they love going in and crapping on any forums where people are happy about EVs. As far as Faraday, that is not the Faraday we saw years ago. They had to use or wanted to use the SPAC, just like Lucid and others. You are right the Aptera leadership seems very passionate and they seem to be trying to be transparent or as transparent as possible. I would not put them in the Nikola Motors or Lordstown group. I still cannot believe Nikola was allowed to continue operations, because what they did was done by a group at Nikola, not just the CEO. Point is, Aptera is doing something that will likely change the way many people think of transportation. When you say three wheel vehicle, most people have low opinions and I do believe Aptera will change that. Solar charging on vehicles is the holy grail in the EV space. If real world solar charging on vehicles truly worked reliably and for many years, that will kill off so many of nay sayers. Maybe what Aptera has learned can be licensed to Tesla if it is truly unique. That would generate some badly needed funds. Haters are going to hate. Aptera just needs to be very careful about these media events. Watching an Aptera ripping around the field at the Tesla Takeover with Kyle from Out -of-Spec in it would show anyone concerned that Aptera cannot go up hills. About 45 minutes in on this video is when that happens. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RE2O2fQh3rQ.html

@@TailosiveEV I asked Chat gpt:. The specific speed of 20 mph for achieving the Aptera's 1,000-mile range comes from data provided by Aptera itself or from sources closely related to the company and its efficiency tests. Aptera's design, with its low drag coefficient and lightweight structure, enables it to reach such impressive range figures at lower speeds. This information is often detailed in Aptera's technical documentation, official communications, or from knowledgeable insiders who have access to their testing results.
@jflow5601
@jflow5601 Месяц назад
@@TailosiveEV I asked Chat gpt if this applied to Aptera's new larger cell: Yes, the 1,000-mile range estimate for Aptera's vehicle is based on the use of a larger battery pack, and achieving this range under ideal conditions would still require driving at a lower, optimal speed (around 20 mph). The larger battery pack is designed to store more energy, enabling longer distances between charges, but the same principles of energy consumption and efficiency apply. Even with the larger battery cells, factors like aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, and overall efficiency play significant roles in determining the range. Driving at higher speeds would still reduce the effective range, even with the increased capacity of the larger battery pack. The optimal speed to maximize the range remains low to minimize energy use and make the most of the battery's capacity.
