No, he only died when Shy Guys came out of the shadows to drink his blood after being knocked unconscious by Toads. Oddly, the Toads didn't seem to care.

Is it weird that, as ridiculous and messed up as this whole thing is, I actually find the Luigi line kind of sweet? I know that the Toads like Luigi, it just isn't often expressed, and they rarely compare him favorably to Mario. That Toad just implied that Luigi would be better at something than Mario. For an IN-UNIVERSE character to say that is really something. Maybe the characters are starting to appreciate him more.
in mario & luigi: bowsers inside story, at the very beginning of the game, mario and luigi show up to a meeting in the castle and the toad waiting for them at the doors said "oh, luigi came too. super." showing that he didnt want luigi to be there. it made me sad, to be honest..

I honestly would have expected some kind of reaction from the toads knocking out Mario AND witnessing him getting color slurped, but they're just kind of "Thanks for letting us take some anger out! Wait, you're dead? Ah you'll be fine!"

The toads can kill Mario, one of the most powerful figures in all the mushroom kingdom, but just stand there and watch when the shy guys suck the life out of him.
I actually referred to Toadettes already. Toads don't have sexes, some just choose to express themselves as a gender (hence also why the neutral toads outnumber those with pronounced mustaches _and_ those that are Toadettes - most Toads don't even bother to think of themselves as boys or girls).

you can kill the toads in luigi's mansion. don't talk to the toads and they will stay in the dark lost in the house, when you beat the game the house disappears along with all the toads that are still inside.
