Debating the BEST CARDS in The Binding of Isaac Repentance 

This is becoming one of my favorite channels. The chemistry you guys have is what really makes the great. I really do think in a year from now you will have a huge following.

i loved the 4 hour progression of this video from reasonably principled conversation to spending half the time yelling about edgecases. you guys are genuinely very funny to listen to and ive binged over 10 hours of these videos in the last few days

Inverted fool card is also a great card for tainted Eden as well since he wants quantity over quality anyway so it just gives him more passive items to reroll.

Reverse magician not having an offensive factor is so wrong. In most bullet hell bosses you sometimes have to not attack in order to dodge the patterns. This effect let you just standing in front of the boss and not miss a single shot for one minute straight

Here is something you guys forgot to consider, stuff is made a lot better if you can do something you wouldnt be able to do otherwise, and reverse chariot has a small chance to turn you into EDITH WHICH MAKES IT TOP OF INSANE TIER

I started watching Isaac stuff again on youtube because I started playing the game again and one of my friends just got the game a week ago and I'm glade that one of the other tier list videos showed up on my home page I don't remember which one it was but I know this is like the 4th or 5th one I've watched now and you two guys are honestly kinda funny and very entertaining

Counter argument for inverted temporance, it can be multiple of the same pill. This is obviously a worst case scenerio, but I did have a run I used it where I got 3 range downs in a row, and then 2 tears downs in a row. And it was also pretty early in the run making the range downs and tears downs sting a lot more. That fact that it can force you to take multiple of the same bad pill in a row can hurt a lot. Its still an okay card, but I usally ignore it unless I've already taken some decent pills earlier in my run or if I have an item that removes bad pills.

i mean this in the nicest possible way because i love watching these videos but i think both commentators are consistently wrong in hilariously opposite ways (one always says its really high, one says its really low) and it perfectly balances out to create a correct tier list and i think thats beautiful

Now that I think about it, reverse justice sounds pretty good for keeper on non-chest bosses. Open the chests at the start of the fight and you'll have a bunch of extra hits lying around, even on red health characters you'll probably get a couple of heart pickups, which is better than nothing. Though I guess this is also true for machine and beggar generating cards if you bomb them

all ill say is, latermanner's argument for reverse justice made me wanna go and unlock it rn (i dont have a dead god save yet and rarely do challenge runs, rn at least lol) id say it sounds p broken at least on the chest floor. Also idk, I've been grinding isaac A LOT lately, and i feel like i actually do get passive items super often from them? like yeah theres obvs a lot of times i dont, but i wouldnt say its rare to get an item from a gold chest? theres been so many times ive gotten 2 passive items in 1 single room, both from gold chests, if ur spawning like 4 chests, then i would be more shocked for at least 1 of them not to be an item like, 1 out of 2 uses at least edit: me seeing its a tainted cain challenge, my least favorite character 😪 lol

Cool stuff, I like how nitpicky these lists get. Couple og things: It seems like you're not aware of the Wild Card + Diplopia game break. Goes like this: You have Wild Card, you get Diplopia. You go to a room with any good, stackable item (say Growth Hormones). You put your Wild Card on the floor. Diplopia will not only copy the items in the room, but also the pickups, so it will make a copy of Wild Card. You now have 2 Wild Cards, and each of them will copy Diplopia - meaning using one of them will copy the items in the room AND the Wild Card on the floor. In short: literally infinite items. And it's not even that hard to get. Would this combo alone be sufficient to change your ranking of the card? Also, it would be cool to have some idea of how these cards rank compared to the runes. Say, where would you put Soul Of Eve on this list? This is in part because I can't help but feel like some of the runes you put in 'huge' on your rune list feel comparable to some of the cards in 'insane'. Like, are Soul Of Eve/Azazel/J&E really significantly worse than Strength? Were I to be critical towards your list here, I'd say you might consider whether a card like Strength - which only works for one room - can really be considered more powerful than cards like Reverse Lovers or Card Against Humanity, which have a much higher potential to improve the entire run in a significant way. Can one room ever matter that much? Making 'potential longterm impact' a criterion might change some placements here. Finally, other list ideas: Ranking characters based on the overall quality of their unlocks could be fun. Also, full trinkets list (maybe split into multiple parts) and eventually all items list if you dare (definitely split into multiple parts).

The point about tears being "better" for tear effects than damage really does not make sense. Nearly every relevant tear effect scales directly off of your damage. If you have Holy Light and get a 50% tear increase, you get Holy Light 50% more often. If you get a 50% damage increase via Strength, the Holy Light beams just do 50% more damage. There are almost no tear effects that do flat damage and don't scale off of your damage stat.

For reverse justice: You have a 47.95% chance of getting at least one item from a chest when using it. IMO it is better than judgement, worse than hierophant. I mostly do runs for achievements and so I'm going to spend more time doing mother and beast runs (they're harder) so while it's useful on chest, its not something I care too much about. Judgement gives you an item more consistently but requires more payment. Hierophant is just immediately use +2 soul hearts. Free consistent benefit is way better imo. Especially considering I can get this when I have very few keys a lot of the time. Reverse High Priestess: iirc it can actually open secret rooms which I'm pretty sure I have used before 2 of cards: imo diamonds > clubs > spades > hearts ace cards: hearts > clubs > diamonds > spades I don't value bombs very much, you don't usually lose out on too much value from not having a bomb but not having a key can be a huge issue ancient recall: very good, I'll never complain, but it is definitely worse that most higher tier cards. Its definitely a bit better than average though since you get a choice between 3 rules: peak card!!! ? card: I'd say huge tier, most actives are good, so as long as you have an active its at worst a free active use. card against humanity: imo mid huge. It is 1/200 chance for petrified poop so its actually not guaranteed. On 2x2 rooms you'll probably get it but even then it's not for sure. Even without it you'll likely get a lot of value for it. With petrified poop its insane, without its mid so imo huge. You're definitely overestimating how many soul hearts you get, but getting like 3-4 with poop out of a 2x2 room is somewhat common. Also its worth a lot less on womb and beyond since you don't have a shop.

Alright, I'll write down my thoughts as we go down the tierlist wherever I disagree. High Priestess - I do think it's mid tier. Killing an early game boss for free is huge, mainly because it helps you guarantee deals. There are lots of bosses that its easy to take damage on on basement 2 or caves one, and getting an early deal is super helpful for snowballing into more deals later on. It is a very niche application but anything that I can use to one shot Blub or wormwood or any of those other asshole bosses is something I'm going ton value very highly. I also think that killing early bosses is way better than tping out of a curse room Empress and Devil - I do prefer empress. I think speed is the most underrated stat in isaac. I skip small rock a lot because the movement speed lets you dodge so much that you can't otherwise. Emperor - I'll be honest I never use this card lol. It's only really userful on boss rush and hush, but I don't need the extra speed for hush and for boss rush I don't want to skip my item rooms. It's usually not that difficult to make boss rush even without emperor helping you out. I'm not going to argue it's bad but I definitely prefer like, Empress or Devil cards. Moon - Moon is waaaay better than emperor. I am an Emperor hater, sorry. Finding secret rooms is sooo good, and there are a lot of floors, especially very early floors, where finding a secret room can be super difficult. Judgment - Judgment is super good. The min maxxing is crazy with rerolls or deal chance is crazy. The thing about temperance card is that I feel like I find enough blood dono manchines anyway, whereas choosing where to spawn a beggar is more impactful. They're both insane but I slightly prefer judgement. Reverse Magician vs Reverse Empress - I prefer magician slightly for one reason - sometimes, if you already have a ton of damage, the extra protection is more impactful. If you're broken offenseively, magician is a win button. If you're ok offensively, magician and empresss are very close. Empress is only better if you have very, very bad offenses, in which case it may not be enough to save you. Reverse Emperor - Very good imo. It's hard to place. I think normal judgment has much higher highs, but the beggar pool on average is slightly worse than the boss pool, so if you don't have a reroll reverse emperor is much better. I prefer judgment for the high roll potential but reverse emperor or probably slightly better. Reverse Justice - I will say, I think Reverse justice isn't quite in huge. Getting to chest is the hardest part of that run, getting more items in chest really doesn't matter all that much. If you're strong enough to get to chest, you'll be strong enough to kill blue baby or the lamb. I think Temperance, Reverse justice, and judgment all should go in pretty good and not huge. Most of the time, they're all just consumables. I do think that Judgment is about as good as reverse justice, becuase early secret room item rerolls can literally carry an entire run, whereas getting an early reroll out of reverse jsutice in an important room is very unlikely. I think manner is putting way too much stock on getting items in chest, I honestly think popping it early to gamble for a boss item can be better on the run because the extra stats are likely to carry you through a run and make it more likely you'll make it to chest at all. I think Manner said one third of the time he doesn't get an item out of revrese justice, which is super cap. If we assume you get 3 chests every time, the calulation is very simple. We multiple the chances of failure by the number of times you try to hit, so .8*.8*.8. The result is .512, so 51% of the time, you will not get an item. Compare this to beggar, which has a 100% chance of paying out with enough cash. Beggars are much stronger for rigging, it just depends on if you have rerolls available. Reverse Hermit - i think this is a super mid card. It can be useful but reverse fool can actually win runs, whereas reverse hermit is only ever ok Reverse Wheel of Fortune - Fun card, not good, but a super fun card. usually bad, but its fun to pop just to fuck around and find out. Reverse devil - Tbh I kind of like this card because it kills mom's foot. Idk why but that is the fight i consistently struggle with the most of any boss in isaac. I legit have an easier time with several of the late game bosses for some reason.

One fun use case for reverse fool that I had once was using it to prevent a devil deal from spawning. I got tped into a devil deal by a red chest, so to keep my devil chance, I used the reverse fool card to take red heard damage while preserving my soul hearts. It has a lot of fun use cases that you might not even think about when finding it, but it is genuinely a pretty good card even without the reroll. Hell, you can even just go into a cursed room with it using your red health. Unironically, I think it should move up a few spaces. Additionally, justice for suicude king, and that's literally just because Judas' shadow exists. If you find that item, you wanna die as quickly as possible on runs where you are NOT going for checkmarks, but rather streaks. Actually pretty good in that scenario. And it is a pretty funny rage quit.

Coming in late to this, the argument for Reverse Judgment is lowkey hilarious, especially after talking a little about Blank Card. Tarot Cloth synergy though? 4-14 chests. Add in Mom's Key? It's the single best card in the game at that point. EDIT: When used in the first room of the Chest, the items are part of the Treasure Room pool not the Golden Chest pool which still includes Magic Mushroom. Not sure how it works in Dark Room since those are Devil Room pool not Red Chest pool.

Regarding reverse justice, idk why I never thought to make the point at the time, but I don't even think saving the card, or even jera for that matter, for the end of a chest / dark room run is even the best idea. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely good, but I think you're better off with emperor to skip the floor for a standard run, and for a mega satan run I think you are better off with a good combat card such as strength. That's kind of what I was trying to say regarding "an item now is better than an item later", the fact your chest items are random means you might whiff by getting minmaxing type items that are useless for the short point of the run you have them, and it sacrifices a card that shines when held for the end of the run even more. I still think 60% chance to get what's probably a boss pool stat upgrade isn't too impressive, I'm already not super impressed with reverse emperor but that's at least a guaranteed item, judgement and temperance are a lot more versatile than reverse justice I think.

3:36:50 I'm playing a tainted jacob and esau run right now and I found a reversed high priestess, found a tinted rock so I used it two break it, then checked my shop and the reverse high priestess smashed a random pot along the way which gave me a quarter and thus buy deep pockets

Idk if im not min maxing enough but i have never seen temperance and judgement as anything more than just alternative justice cards. Just like the argument against temperance, i feel like there isnt enough resources to pay out this machines, you are probably going to find them naturally in the floor itself so having an extra one is unnencesary. For me they are both mid, temperance might be bottom of pretty good if im feeling generous. Havent finished the video yet, but overall pog content. Gonna keep watching. Also, Death is definetly Trash!
