Deciding between the CZ 75B vs CZ SP01 - Which should I Buy?

Do you go with the stylish lines of the 75 or do you go with the weight of the SP-01 Dust Cover? All these questions answered and more! Guys this was really early in my YT career and it makes me cringe to watch - there's lots of pertinent info but good grief! Have some production value! Check out some of my new videos, I do better now!
A very popular question on the forums, and one that's not easily answered. I'll discuss the differences between the two to help inform your decision. I missed my note to mention the enlarged magazine release on the SP01, so there's that too. The 85 Combat or the Pre-B 75's are good candidates if you decide the 75 frame is for you.

I think I bought my CZ 75B back in 2000. Couple years ago I got the CZ 75 compact used. Today I am picking up my CZ P-01. As a secondary house defense gun and a CCW carry I'm definitely going to use the CZ P-01.

One thing I never noticed before buying my 75 was the beavertail. If I had to buy again, I'd go for the sp01. Love the classic look of the 75, but you start to feel it after 50 rounds.

I sold my 75b for a 75 SAO because of the tang/beavertail ergos. Haven't looked back, it feels great and is quite a difference. It's still not as nice as the SP-01 for whatever reason. Slightly different and slightly better feel on the SP-01 vs the 75 SAO

@@ericj6636 Hey Eric J! I own a 75B. I agree with you, the beaver tail is no bueno. Just bumms me out...and living in cali just makes me more mad. I wish cz would get rid of the standard 75B receiver and use the Omega receiver which has a swept up beaver tail....so much better....just like the SAO. Happy New Year!

CV 75 BD for the win! While I like the SP-01, it’s too heavy for excellent reasons already explained in the video. I went to go buy a SP-01 three weeks ago but saw the CZ 75 BD on sale. So I bought it and added it to my already “B” model collection. Sometimes “old school” needs no improvement.

I have both a 75B SAO and Shadow-Tac 2 basically a tuned up SP01 Shadow and l can't say enough about them. They are fantastic out of the box and take the same mags. However the 75B cost me $550 where as the Shadow-Tac 2 was $1200 so there I realized how much a bargain the 75B was because both are more accurate then I am.

If it's for carry it doesn't have to have a rail for light or laser. Lasers are realistically only good to about 10' and if you're somewhere dark enough to "need" a light you're probably in the wrong place. Learn how to use your sights effectively. For home protection yeah a rail isn't a bad idea. Homes are generally small so any light that's momentary and 100-500 Lumen is plenty bright. You're not using to hunt & you want to minimize your location broadcast with a light. Quick flashes, you know your home & how to move in it in the dark, mostly. You'll know this to be true if you've ever done barn burner training. Personally I prefer a rail for both carrys. But one of my dailies has no rail and I'm confident with it day or night. Buy the tool you want not because someone told you too. Make sure it's functional, comfortable and train with it. There are soooo many options out there you're bound to find what you love. And buy as much ammo & minimum 5 mags as possible. You know, for the range 😆👍

Which one depends on one's intended use. The SP-01 is the 75 variant. The extended and upswept beavertail is on the stainless 75 Bs. I agree that all versions of the 75 would be better off with this feature.

The SP-01 has a rail, front cocking serrations and night sights. The trigger action is the same as a 75B. SP-01 makes sense for competition shooting because there are *SO MANY* holster options available that are coming up for sale used due to the shadow 2. Some folks prefer swinging around a lighter gun or like a faster cycling slide. The 75B will cycle faster than the SP-01 if that matters.

Have you noticed the sp-01 being picky about ammo ? Like 147s or cast or steel case Thanks for the info very informative
@TheHumbleMarksman
@TheHumbleMarksman 6 лет назад
CZ's have short throats so some steeper projectiles will need to be loaded shorter. i haven't seen any issues with JHP's getting in the lands but I have loaded some ammo myself slightly too long to hang the slide out of battery. I haven't heard of any issues feeding factory ammo of any type. If you're curious/concerned - you might buy one box, plunk and spin a round into the barrel. if it will sit flush and rotate in the barrel (meaning not hitting the rifling) then you are good to go. I don't think you'll have any issue with factory round nose - but the freedom JHP - Match ammo or whatever probably won't work - it's loaded long for 9mm 2011s. That's the only one I know that has issues.
@trevor894

@Darkpara1

I've got the Sp01, no issue at all with any factory made ammo, and the small amount of reloads i've put through it.
@TheHumbleMarksman
@TheHumbleMarksman 6 лет назад
You won't find that issue with most factory RN profiles. Long loaded JHPs can cause issues and a lot of amateur reloads used to loading for Glocks or Smiths can cause issues. I make my own ammo and I can personally attest to how short the ammo has to be with projectiles with profiles with steep shoulders (like a JHP). Gentle shoulders like on 115 RNs aren't a problem at all. The cast lead 124/125's are gross offenders.

Just held my first CZ, a 75 BD, last week. Previously the only gun I could hold naturally was a 1911 on account of my medium-small hands and short stubby fingers, but this pointed great and felt pretty good. I would say if I swapped out the rubber grips with thin grips it would be pretty close to ideal for me, but with no margin for error in terms of being small enough. Are there any frame differences between the 75 and SP01 other than what you mentioned that would affect someone with a small grip like me? Where I live it's difficult for me to get access to CZs to handle - sorry to bother you.
@TheHumbleMarksman
@TheHumbleMarksman 7 лет назад
+Don R there are two things you can do to enhance trigger reach other than going cocked and locked on a safety model. First is to use thinner grip panels. An inexpensive set of thin grips are the Pachmyar grips. They come in a G10 and a wood laminate. I have the wood laminates and they are mighty thin and look decent. Other thins would be like VZs, LOKs, or CZ Custom aluminum thins. The Pachmyars can be had for like 20$ on amazon. Next thing you can do is install an SP01 or P01 trigger. It has more of a curve to it so the reach is a bit less. Some hate the recurve trigger, I personally don't care- they all work fine for me. Thin grips is a strong starting point. A third option is that Cajun gun works makes a reach reduction kit if you want to put all cards on the table

you know how to change out the grips on the cz p07 without the lanyard lube?
@TheHumbleMarksman
@TheHumbleMarksman 7 лет назад
I don't have any of the P series guns, but I'm assuming it's similar to how the 75 series comes down. You'll need a pin punch, or an allen key. press down on the lanyard loop then punch out the pin (from right to left), should press out with out too much issue. Take off the lanyard loop mainspring plug, swap it for the flat cap. Press it in, push the pin back through. This is the part you need: czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/p07-p09-parts-from-diagram/p07-main-spring-plug.html?___SID=U If it's out of stock, I'd call Stuart with CZC and ask about it. If they can't get it for you quickly, maybe call up David with Cajun Gunworks and ask the same question. You can't change grips on the P series in a traditional sense, since it's a molded grip with no affixed grip panels, but I think you're talking about the main spring plug.

I guess I view the 75 as the "platform" and the 75B model as a short dust cover variant and the SP01 as the FLDC variant. The actions are effectively the same as all FCG parts are interchangeable with differences in the frames/slides/barrels. You're obviously correct
