Dang, is this the 'smallest' artist covered on DDD yet? Only 170K listeners on spotify, which is about the size of most bands who make it big enough to be known out of their hometown. Love it!

I first got to know Ratboys when they were opening for Julien Baker in 2022. The day before the show, the drummer fell and broke his arm so Julia got up alone and played their set just her with a guitar! It turned into more of an acoustic vibe and sounded so good and I became an instant fan!

My dad and I have always bonded over music, mostly through him introducing me to music he liked. Ratboys is the first band I played for him that he’d never heard of before, and when The Window released we listened to it together. Happy they’re getting a DDD to themselves :)

The thing this wonderful video doesn't touch on is how amazing they are as a live act. They just have this chemistry that few bands have live where they are faithful to the songs but play with a looseness and trust in each other that is rare these days. And then you have the stage banter which is among the best. Every time I've seen them over the years (3 times) they are great.

I saw them open for PUP in 2019 with my husband, and immediately fell in love with them. Been following them since then. My husband passed in October of last year, and their album The Window has been profoundly important to me through my grief journey. The Window is basically the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Really glad you deep dived into them, an amazing and well deserving band.

I like this as a new approach to the DDD format! the insights from the interview are great, it's shining a light on current artists who haven't been given the same level of spotlight as Bowie or Fleetwood Mac. but also 21:08 NEARER MY GOD MENTIONED. automatically best DDD yet.

I’m from Chicago, play in some local bands, and know lots of local bands yet I somehow never heard of this one. Probably because I was in college when they were starting to gain traction. Congratulations on becoming an honorary Chicagoan! Perhaps I'm biased, but I think you'd fit right in ☺️ What a cool DDD! My brother was also deep in the Chicago music scene in the mid-to-late 2010s (he's now in the Portland scene) so I wouldn't be surprised if he's crossed paths with Ratboys. Also, after thoroughly enjoying all the clips you've played here, I've now been inspired to dive into my local music scene. Chicago has produced some incredible names and it's about time I start supporting the up-and-comers too. Can't wait to see where else this series takes you--I'm sure this is just the beginning of some exceptional things! 😊🎉

Saw Ratboys in my home town of Copenhagen, when they were supporting Julien Baker on her last european tour (before boygenius reunion). Didn't know them at all but became an instant fan that night! Such a charming and cool live show they have. And great songs!

Mr. The Snare I was pretty sure I had never heard about this band until you mentioned the song "Black Earth, WI" which I remembered was on one of the last free packs of songs on Rock Band 4, and seeing as how you've mentioned Guitar Hero being where you heard of songs/bands for the first time (ie The Strokes Reptilia) I figured you'd enjoy this tidbit and maybe play it if you haven't yet! Love The DDD's as it has gotten me into many a music I would never have gotten into on my own, keep it up!!!
