Tip for beginner artists: sketch books are meant to be messy and bad, it is used for learning and practise because a beginner will want to draw something amazing that they dont even know how to do so please dont try to be precious with with your sketchbook and dont be afraid of making bad drawing because bad drawings will eventually lead to great and amazing drawings. also the tips in this video are brilliant thank you veronica 🦇🦇🖤🌹

i think many will find easier to just use white a4 paper sheet for sketches, it's like this for me at least, if i use a sketchbook, i feel more pressure cause i know is a whole group of paper sheets that will have plenty of sketches inside, so will have bad and good togheter. with single sheet, you don't have this problem, and is easier to not care and go messy, or anyway not searching for excessive quality for a sketch.

Yes!! This is important to remember. One reason being because “aesthetic” looking sketchbook pages have always been so popular because they’re so creative and fun and messy- but I promise one day, if that’s what you want, it WILL happen! Just keep experimenting and drawing and you will learn as you go :)

Thank you for a fascinating and informative tutorial! I guess I am very much in the "Complete beginner" category (I'm only 70, so I've still got time to learn something new!). I am a keen amateur photographer, and noticed after a while that whenever I had taken a shot that I was happy with, I realised that it almost always seemed to conform to one of the compositional rules. After realising this, I found that if I found a subject that inspired me (I love doing both natural and urban landscapes), if I moved around while looking through the viewfinder (While trying not to get run over by oncoming traffic!), I would find a position and an angle where everything looked "right" and lined up with the rule of thirds, golden ratio etc - I could almost hear a "click" in my mind. I guess that the reason why these rules are so visually appealing to us, is that the natural world incorporates these rules in most animate and inanimate objects - even in our own anatomy! And of course, architects and designers do so as well. Thanks again for your excellent videos - Keep 'em coming!

That video thumbnail has to be a reference to popular manga and anime series Jojos Bizarre Adveture. With the addition of both the golden ratio known for being the secret to unlocking the infinite spin technique and a pen for writing/drawing which is a common reference to character Kishibe Rohan who is in universe a famous mangaka.

I don't know if this tip will help, but it helped me a lot throughout my years of drawing. I always had the fear of messing up the first page of a sketchbook every time I remember how much I paid for it. If the sketchbook was a little expensive, the fear was bigger. So, in order to take that away, I'd draw on very cheap/ kids sketchbooks. Because it made me think "this is so cheap, so why bother?" It's something I recommend when you have this kind of fear

Cats can be so annoying! Still love them. Composition looks so hard to me. The main reason - I just don't understand how actually it should help me (maybe it's because I'm not an artist at all?). I feel like I must follow these lines, but I don't know how to do it. Should I stay in lines? Should I work around them? I see all these graphs, but they mean nothing good to me, just a big pressure I don't know how to handle. What's wrong with my perception? Why people say composition helps make art better, but for me it's a scary monster I can't defeat? Maybe it's too early for composition, I missed an important theme which should go before? When one should learn it to actually become better artist?
@vespertiliu
@vespertiliu 6 месяцев назад
Hi! It's ok to feel overwhelmed at the start. So, composition helps us put elements of our art onto paper (or whatever surface you prefer) in a way that it's harmonious and balanced. For example, take the rule of thirds grid: If you draw a landscape you can put the orizon potentially wherever you prefer, and put trees all over the place, and that of course is a choice, and makes you free, but to others might seem "too much" to handle. Having a grid to follow helps you deal with "less". For example, you can put the horizon line on one of the two horizontal lines of the grid, put a big tree on the first third on the right, and fewer slimmer trees on the central third. You can leave the last third open, so that the viewer can see the horizon and the sky. View it like this: Making art can be like making a puzzle: you collect the pieces and put them one close to each other until you complete the puzzle. Composition is like having a grid with all the pieces of the puzzle drawn on to the table, so you don't have to look for what goes next to what, you can actually put the pieces around just laying them on the grid. If in this particular moment of your art journey you feel like composition is not for you, that's totally ok. It's a tool available for those who seek something to "lay on" while creating an artwork. It's a technique :)

"Sometimes we are afraid to draw" Me 24/7
@venomlily1651
@venomlily1651 5 месяцев назад
You're not the only one . My fear stems from not being able to draw as well as I did back in high school . ( I stopped drawing after my 3yr. bout with severe depression, from 2008- 2011 .) But when I tried to get back into drawing, I found I couldn't . This fear would come over me so hard, that my heart would race and I'd blank out . Not to mention, there's another annoying problem I have . It's taken some time, but I've only been able to draw elementary level stuff with my nieces and nephews just a few times since the Lord healed me of depression . Yet, when I tried to draw, I found that I don't IMPROVE from 1 drawing to the next . I even drew a flower in a flower pot 20 TIMES with the intention of improving on how I drew it, but to my dismay, they all looked THE SAME .

Hello Lady Veronica. Can i share some words with you and your human friends?....i will take that silent as an "of course" answer. First of all, Leonardo here, at your service. Im beyond grateful for your word of advices, your time and dedication on your videos, i've find your channel a few days ago and well...im writing this even when the simple idea of doing this feels weird. I'm not much of a social internet "person". Im 37 years old and i love art in any way of expression possible, but its been years now that im afraid of using a pencil and trying doing some drawings or writing. Long story short, i let someone use my art and works as a way to make me feel stupid and dumb and yes i know its my fault, but its hard to coming out of that hole. I've been looking for some "help" and suddenly as a gift from Mephisto himself, your channel appeared. I see passion, confidence and proudness in your words and eyes (and the secrets within them too) and i thank you for that, deeply, with all the respect you deserve. Sorry for the long message and for taking your time and any other human reading this. P.S. I love your accent and the way you express art in your whole self. Your existence is the proof that art and poetry can be a person.

Hi! Thank you so much for this comment. I’m moved and flattered. As for your sad experience, you don’t have to feel guilty. It’s never the abused’s fault. We all have flaws but that doesn’t mean other people are entitled to hurt us for the simple reason that we are not strong enough. If I can give you some advice that helped me a lot: The past can’t follow you in the present. And what you imagine “could be” is not “what is now”. Focus on who you are and what you want in your life RIGHT NOW. Every day is a chance for a brand new start. Hope this helps.

One takeaway for we is that the origin of the spiral is not the center of it, or the page, like you might be tempted to draw freehand , or some random point - it is a very specific point closer to the golden section, right? I like it: the spiral has rules.

Great advice, will try it this month, never thought of doing it the way you showed. And it's always make me struggle to think of something out of the blue, especially if I don't have idea to begin with ~ So.. I do wonder, do you have idea when you start or you just do ref art and it's grow out of it into something? do you think about composition like you showed when you do shooting or you fit it later on? And.. have you ever thought of opening a patreon? :D Thank you for the video and hope you'll answer ~
@vespertiliu
@vespertiliu 5 месяцев назад
Hello! Thank you so much! I'lll try answer in order: It really depends. Sometimes I have an idea pop up like an image in my head and so I sketch it out and then adjust it with my go-to grid just to make the composition look cleaner. When I just want to draw but don't have a particular idea, I usually draw the grid and then start positioning elements one by one as I go. Also, I should mention I'm very comfortable erasing stuff everytime I change my mind. I really take my time with the sketching part, and only when I'm satisfied I proceed with inking :) As for a patreon I actually considered opening it along with my youtube comeback, but since I'm currently busy both with content creating and with the comic books I'm working on, I thought that adding a patreon would have been too much at the moment. I do have a ko-fi btw if you'd like to check it out :)

Absolutely! Composition is a tool, but it’s not mandatory. Art is about expression :) But also to those who want to embrace composition techniques, as I said in the video: composition may seem limiting, but for a single rule there are many applications! Have fun and enjoy the process

a me succede anche di avere un idea non chiara, farne altre, ma non avere voglia di elaborarle perchè mi rimane l'altra idea, che però non è chiara :/
@vespertiliu
@vespertiliu 6 месяцев назад

@vespertiliu
@vespertiliu 5 месяцев назад
Ciao cara! Eccomi!!! Allora in realtà puoi letteralmente fare come vuoi! Se cerchi su google “rule of thirds” vedrai tanti esempi diversi! Chi usa i punti di intersezione, chi posiziona gli elementi sulle linee, chi tra le linee. È molto a tua discrezione :) se hai altri dubbi scrivimi su Instagram che sicuramente ne parliamo meglio lì 🫶🏻
