Is this 4K camera system from Defender is good enough to be a good alternative to LOREX or SWANN systems ? I have tested this camera kit recently and I'll give my honest impressions in this video. Is the DVR any good ? How is 4K ? How is the night footage ? How is the app ? I'll try to answer all these questions in this video.

Motion blurr is not caused by frame rate. Shutter speed and aperture affect blurr

Aperture is for background blur, not motion blur. In theory, you are right, but on these type of cameras, the shutter speed is directly linked to the to the frame rate (it cannot be adjusted), so FPS does affect motion blur (like in video games). And in videography, shutter speed is typically twice the fps, so motion blur is different according to the selected fps (however, it can be adjusted manually with a real camera).

@@TEKDAD thanks for the response. I think there are many factors that cause motion blur. I believe that frame rate is at bottom of the list. I work with and install systems. I’m not an expert in the electronics but have learned a few things along the way for example a decent 4k camera needs at a minimum a 1/1.8 image sensor preferably 1/1.2 and an apertures of f1.0 or f1.2. I learned the lessons using cheaper cameras.

Thanks. I’m not an electronics expert but have learned through experience. I do not use lite series cameras or big box store systems as they use small sensors etc.

Good video! 👍 Anyone know the power consumption in watts or amps? I am interested in using this in my van. And want to ensure I have enough battery power for it.

How do I lower the resolution to make a persons face clear? I find this system difficult to navigate someone was checking my cars doors last, helping themselves to stuff in the car port, yet I received no notifications ugh forgive my tech ignorance. Frustrated please help

It’s in the camera settings. But you can’t change it for the record footage you have, only for the future.

Just setup today vs my samsung. Night vision is shit on defender 4k. My samsung had color at night. Only updated due to samsung support dropped so no video on the phone was available.

Thanks for the awesome video as it allowed me to finally identify this as a Hikvision system. I'll admit their profit margin is pretty low considering their prices. Most Swann cams are also Hikvision so...apples to apples comparison there. Lorex is Dahua. I've had good experiences with the Dahua systems. If anyone here has Lorex, let me tell you something, the Lorex App sucks. You'll do better with the real manufacturer software that hasn't been altered by Lorex. For PC it's called SmartPSS and comes with PC-NVR which lets you record to a different hard drive which some people find useful. For phone the app is DMSS. And don't be fooled by Lorex with the outright lie that the system only accepts their branded items. They soon probably won't since the company is soon changing hands from China to Taiwan (pretty sure it's Taiwan off the top of my head). But for now, if you don't believe me, go to settings and choose to manually add a camera. Take a look at the list of options for cameras and see the long list manufacturers and includes ONVIF as a general category... Lol I can't wait for the haters' replies.

Does anyone know how to get the wizard setup screen. I accidentally clicked it when connecting the mouse and I am not able to set it up. I can’t view it on the app either

Hi I was wondering if this system has expandable storage. If I purchased a external hard drive, would the DVR be able to record onto the external hard drive via USB connection?

That I’m not sure unfortunately. I was able to plug a USB drive to export. I don’t know if it can record on it.

I thinking 12FPS is too low. Need at least 30fps

It’s definitely the shortcoming. You can get better FPS on this but at a lower resolution.

@@TEKDAD I think if the camera with 1080 is used for shorter distance, might be okay. Been having to deal with a lot attempted theft , theft, and vandalism. Thanks again for your review.
