Incredible to me to see how every part of this motorcycle is in terrible disrepair. I guess it's just something I don't think about often because everyone I know takes such good care of their scooters. Really glad to see you resurrecting. Bravo. Keep up the good work.

Sure thing Mike, it's had a hard life that much is certain.. but its purely weather and corrosion based rather then engine wear.. all the bearings were just rusted and corroded rather then worn out... it's only done about 38k miles, so a great base for a Rat Rod project.. great mechanicals, and the rest is unimportant, is ill be changing the look entirely.. ..

Great video mate. What you wrote on that wall is my story with me and my project zx9r. I'm very close to finishing her up and I was scared to even work on it at the beginning but now that it's coming to an end, I feel little sad that I wont be working on her. Great story brother. Thanks brother, much appreciated... all of us know who've done projects what a life changing experience they can be, and that's both good and bad!... it's exciting starting off, it can be disappointing, depressing and downright enraging when you hit stupid problems along the way, but it's a journey as you know, and all great journeys are a little sad when they come to an end... good luck with yours, enjoy the big final day when it rolls out in to the sun, there's no moment like it when you can finally stand back and say 'it's finished'! Peace out brother.

You always have perfect timing with your videos... I just rebuilt the clutch master on the ol' Bandit, exactly the same part number for sure! I've always been made to think that rebuilding master cylinders was too difficult and not worth the time, that to replace it is easier. Instead, I found it not only simple but meditative as any other service. Now my master cylinder feels like new. Awesome video man! Job well done.

Just food for thought. Once you've got the tank off, is it worth doing a set of valve clearances and changing the spark plugs?? Might need to swing the rad down but one of those jobs that's sooooooo much easier to do with big things out the way. Would also be good to see a video on valve clearances and see what condition the engine is like under the rocker cover. As ever, all good stuff with the vids

Great series! Question, do you use JIS bits in your screwdriver or regular Phillips? Reason for asking is when I bought a set of three JIS screwdrivers my garagelife instantly improved. No more stripped heads on the screws on my Japanese bikes. Works a treat! 😄
@jockofthebushveld299
@jockofthebushveld299 Год назад
JUST ordered a Set of JIS Screwdrivers to remove the screws on my Brake master Cylinder, you can tell if the Screw is JIS as there will be a small Dot next to the head of the Screw,also you can use JIS Screw driver headed driver bits on Philips headed Screw,but don't use Philips Bits on JIS screws as you will round out the head of the Screw and that's a Big Problem.

Hi Del, the oil cooler pipe you managed to fit was that the send or return pipe ? was just thinking the heat from that down pipe affecting the cooling, as you dont see the downpipes once fitted would you consider exhaust heat wrapping just to stop heat to the cooler pipes at all as they do look rather close :) ?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
The pipe i have managed to fit so far is the feed pipe i believe, i guess the return pipe matters more, so once i get a union that i can connect it to, it is a lot longer that the feed pipe, so i will route it with as much air space around it as possible, and consider wrapping it too as that's good common sense... Thanks for the nudge mate, much appreciated... Del.

I haven’t gone through all 126 comments so I apologize if this is a duplicate question. You used a “rubber grease” in this video. What brand and makeup is it. I noticed you used it on the inside seal which could crossover into the fluid. Can this contaminate the brake fluid? Or, is this of a composition that will not? Thanks for these videos. They are extremely helpful. Especially on my old GSXR.

Is the clutch rebuild kit the same as the brake rebuild kit? Im riding a b-king
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi buddy, no it's not, if you look closely on the clutch master piston, it's got that strange socket arrangement on the end to accommodate the pin that holds the rubber boot and fits in to the lever, but on the brake side, the top of the piston is flat, and the casting of the brake lever pushes directly on it with no pin... and am not sure, as I didn't measure them, but it could be possible that the bore inside them could be fractionally different, but just order the right kit, they're about the same price as each other, about £20 from Wemoto.

Quick question Del, why do you use what looks like a VDE screwdriver for a lot of the prying/pushing of rubber parts etc. when a normal slotted screwdriver would have a thinner shaft and be just as effective? Is it a case of what's available? And an extra question, any preference between normal screwdrivers or ratchet? Never seen you use a ratchet?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi there, i have a few of those little VDE drivers scattered about, got them in a set of ten, and they're just what's handy to reach for at the time... and yes i have a couple of ratchet drivers, use them from time to time./ :-)

rubber lube is silicone paste the same thing?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Different ingredients as far as i know, old style rubber lube (from what i read) is a castor based oil thickened with clay... and silicone grease is the same idea if thickening oil with fillers so make a paste....so i guess you could say one is organic and the other synthetic... same result and same use though. both heat resistant and kind to rubber.

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 лет назад
Hi mate, you need a bit more investigation that 'start motor problem', have you isolated it specifically to the starter? Remember, there are many things that affect the starter, side stand switch, clutch switch, kill switch, are they all healthy? What is the exact problem with the starter? Is it spinning freely every time if you power it up off the bike? Before you starting ripping it apart, or thinking of replacing it, then it's sensible to ascertain first, that the starter alone is the problem! Check all the other stuff first, process of elimination and all that mate...

Nice straightforward video Del it’s why I was drawn to your videos when you were working on a Triumph Tiger which is one of my bikes I own, good straightforwardly videos. But when I look at this video on this old Superbike that you’re working on it does worry me that people would own/ride them without doing simple maintenance. The state of that pistons when you pulled it out of that reservoir and earlier the brake reservoir is unacceptable. And to think someone would ride such a bike while not even maintain it is sad. Where did the idea that looking after a bike is just exciting as riding them ? Hope you both have a wonderful weekend.

Hi buddy, I really don't think that there is anybody to be blamed for anything here, this Suzuki is just a tired ol' girl that's done a lot of work in a lot of bad weather, the weather eats everything, and you're constantly fighting the elements... plus, it's 20yrs old! Two decades can do a lot of damage to a bike, I think we get lulled in to the belief that bike's don't wear, or corrode, but that's largely cos they don't get used... think in comparison to cars, the average car does, perhaps, 15-20k miles a year, most bikes don't do that in 10yrs, but this one has done 40oddk miles, it just seems all of it was in bad weather lol and not much cleaning went on!! Perhaps it was a computer that lived outside, ask anyone who lives in London and commutes, that's just life... but am confident in the bike as it's low mileage and a bomb proof engine... all that you're seeing here is just weather decay and I'm eliminating that as I go! Hopefully we can spread a little confidence with these videos that however bad it is, you can bring it back!

Moonfleet41 fair point Del... But a little love and care and a caring eye can maintain a bike for decades.. and that’s even more important if I am sitting on it!

@@terryblack2219 Totally agree mate, 'little and often' is far better than a full re-build when it gets as bad as this!... you're right, it never needs to get this bad!

Last time I saw that many close-ups of lubed, rubbery objects, I was visiting a very different sort of video-streaming-site... ;)
