Hello Ron! Mike White here again! I hope all is very well! Congratulations on having your act together enough to be putting out content; interesting and well-edited content at that! So, I have narrowed my choice down to the same Delkevic 13" Stubby Oval exhaust that you selected. For the extra 100 or so, I will purchase the entire system but keep the stock header pipe with cats installed for the time being because of concerns regarding passing NYS inspection and because of the two mini heat shields on the stock pipe. I understand there are folks out there experiencing "boot melt" from the direct contact with the Delkevic pipe. A correctable problem for certain as I cured my Harley of the issue, but it can be a pain in the foot and wallet while finding an attractive solution. Regardless, my question for you regards carbon fiber versus stainless steel. The carbon fiber looks MUCH better, IMO, than the stainless, not that any of us motorcyclists are concerned about how our bikes look, right?! However, I have heard and read that the carbon is more susceptible to scratches that cannot be polished out and cracking in worst case scenarios. But, again, it sure looks awfully darn purdy! Just wondering if you considered any of these issues and/or others in deciding whether or not to go with the carbon fiber, and if you would mind sharing your thoughts on the matter. I do recall you saying in your install video that having owned Harleys, you wanted a black exhaust for a change. Again, that stock header pipe could be DIY painted with 2000 degree Farenheit ceramic coat paint from Krylon and/or Rustoleum and would look great! BTW, I think the stock header looks fine as is, but black would likely look good as well. Peace and Happy Trails!

BTW, I just realized the Delkevic oval I'm looking at and you installed is 14 inches, not 13!

Hey Mike! Thanks for that. Yeah, it looks neat for sure. I did not really think about the scratches and stuff prior to purchase. It is a good point. Mine is so dusty and dirty most of the time that I cannot really tell if there are any🤣. I really wanted black to primarily matched the paint scheme of the bike. It would have been the only shiny thing on it. I did paint the header pipe. Its in my video on mods a couple of weeks ago. I kept the heel plates aluminum but buffed them up. I had that intention the whole time which is why I did not get the full system. Luckily I do not have any emissions testing where I live anyway. Thanks!

@swcoloradoadventures Hey! Just thought about something as I read this response: It was Delkevic that mentioned to me that the carbon fiber scratched more easily than the stainless. I, however, like the look of the carbon fiber and the fact that it stays cooler.
@swcoloradoadventures
@swcoloradoadventures Год назад
@@MichaelWhite-cx4ho makes sense Mike! I will say, however, that the bracket still gets super hot. For some reason I decided to push down a part of the rubber that split on it just after riding. Not smart. Won’t do that again. The carbon part does stay much cooler for sure. Thanks!

@swcoloradoadventures Ron: I am thinking that the original exhaust heat shield could be modified on the back side to accommodate a couple of larger diameter stainless steel hose clamps to hold it on. Ditto for the mini header pipe clamps if one went with the Delkevic header. The minis would likely look much better as the clamps would likely not show much at all. They would be a must as boot melt is an annoying and ultimately expensive mess. I have had some stalling issues on cold starts since purchasing, so I'm taking the bike to the dealer on Saturday for an ecu reflash. After that, I will finally start wrenching on this thing! Just don't want to give the dealership any reasons to suggest that anything I may have done affected cold starting/stalling. Apparently, it's a fairly common issue that lots of people have had that is very correctable via reflash and/or tps repositioning. Other than being a little fussy with the cold starts, I love the bike! The dealership, Kustom Workz of Depew, NY, has been wonderful! I'm doing a 50 mile highway escort with my Sportster 1200 this PM for Air Force Sgt. Korey Wade, who very sadly passed during a training exercise in Arizona on June 14. The only reason I keep the Harley is for use to honor our Nation's heroes via Patriot Guard missions. I encourage all riders and nonriders alike to consider volunteering for their local PGR group. It's quite an experience, especially when honoring a hero like Sgt. Wade, who passed during service to all of U.S.

Haha! The Delkevic is nice for sure. It looks and sounds cool but I’m not it really changed the bike performance in a quantifiable way. Well, it does way less. That’s the one positive that is irrefutable. No real need to change for sure. Thanks!

What made you decide to go for the carbon fiber option? I've watched some of your videos and noticed you ride a lot of unpaved roads. I'm concerned that if the bike drops or a stone hits your exhaust, the carbon fiber could break, whereas a steel option would only get bent. I know the carbon fiber exhaust is a bit lighter, but still, the risk of getting a hole or crack in it is a big concern in my opinion.

I also happen to drop the bike a lot …😜the exhaust has not really had damage from any of that. However, maybe due to my fuel mixes the carbon has warped at but at a hotspot. If I was doing it again, I would get the smallest stainless that accommodates a spark arrestor.

Hello Sir! Just purchased a '22 Himalayan! Like you, I want to upgrade some things including the exhaust. I really like the complete Delkevic systems or even just the slip on as you chose. Big discount buying the complete system versus buying the header pipe and muffler separately. I have been researching high heat spray paints because, like you, I would like to keep the original header pipe, especially if I can successfully remove the cat material near the top of the pipe. Krylon has a high heat primer that must be used with their high heat paint, one of which is clear for those of you that may want to keep your original pipe and exhaust looking new(er). The paint actually contains ceramic and protects up to 2, 000°F. About $15 per can. Supposed has great adhesion and scuff/chip/oil/ water resistance. Just wondering if you are still thinking of spraying your header pipe and if you've decided on a paint yet. Thank you.

Hello Michael! Great thoughts on the exhaust and protection. I really like the sound of the Delkevic. Makes the bike sound a bit more aggressive and growl…believe it or not I totally forgot about the header pipe project. I checked out cerakote a little but never called. There are a few gunsmiths around here that do it. Haven’t quite decided which way to go. So, thanks for reminding me. The plan is to polish the covers and keep the pipe black. Thanks for the suggestion on paint!
@MichaelWhite-cx4ho
@MichaelWhite-cx4ho Год назад
@@swcoloradoadventures A local shop quoted $200 to Cerakote my header pipe. I could buy a new Delkevic bright or brushed stainless pipe with all the install gaskets, etc. for $160, and an entire system with Delkevic exhaust for around $300. I am going to try the Krylon High Heat Primer and then their High Heat Ceramic Paint first just to see how the blacked out system looks and holds up. I may bring everything to my local guy to for curing in his parts oven once I've sprayed. Folks online seem to love the stuff! In reality, I'll probably just buy the full Delkevic system because it looks and sounds great!

@@MichaelWhite-cx4ho thanks for that! That pushes me toward the DIY project for sure. Not really worth spending too much the way I beat stuff up unfortunately. But, that's a big reason why I got that bike in particular. Thanks!
@MichaelWhite-cx4ho
@MichaelWhite-cx4ho Год назад
@@swcoloradoadventures Great reasoning! Unlike our Harleys, the Himis are supposed to get dinged and dented; "that's where the fun is," as Manfred Mann would say! I will likely do my entire exhaust in the black spray first, attempt to remove the baffle or drill a few holes in a strategic, discreet location, and try that before spending hundreds more in accessories! Lots of great bits for this bike! It's just that the stock can and header pipe are the aesthetically low point on this bike! Hope RE starts blacking them out or chroming someday like they do with their other bikes. Thank you for your inspiration and instruction!
