This is such a great video! So much information here. I've gone through the same evolution you have and I'm looking to pull the trigger on the Scram/Himi. The only negative for me are the tube tires. I live in Ecuador where this bike will be perfectly applicable. I think by now you have installed the TEC cam...can't wait to hear your impression. Also, I'll study this FuelX Pro. Finally, that ride from Montrose to Durango is absolute utopia!
I haven’t found anyone that has also plugged in a Obd2 scanner, everyone just test rides. I want to see the short term fuel change with each setting. How about it. This can be seen at idle. On the short term fuel trim by adj while viewing, you can also record. No snake oil salesman then.

Hey there. It actually does the opposite for me. I felt gravity pulled me forward more when I had the stock seat. Being almost level with the rear, I’m a lot less cramped and able to spread out over what would have normally been the jump between the front and back part of the seat. May just be a personal geometry thing though.
@@swcoloradoadventurestoday I rode about 35 mi with the dealers seat on my bike. It felt great. I will be ordering one. Now the decision is to staple it myself or send them the seat pan. I have done them before and they never come out looking just perfect.
I really thank you for this video. I wasn't able to enjoy my bike without it stalling constantly due to too low idling RPMs, but I did just the same that you did and voilà... 1200 beautifully constant RPMs...
What made you decide to go for the carbon fiber option? I've watched some of your videos and noticed you ride a lot of unpaved roads. I'm concerned that if the bike drops or a stone hits your exhaust, the carbon fiber could break, whereas a steel option would only get bent. I know the carbon fiber exhaust is a bit lighter, but still, the risk of getting a hole or crack in it is a big concern in my opinion.
Shoei helmets are the tightest, most round helmets I've ever attempted to squeeze my nogen into. I give up. I'm a XXXL long oval and the ONLY helmet that fits my head doesn't fit my face. It squishes my cheeks so much that I can't breathe through my nose and the neck roll kinda chokes me a bit. Would love to find an open face or modular besides the C5.
Sounds like you could benefit from a store that stocks it all so you can go down the line until something works. It’s a challenge for sure. Good luck out there!
Last Sept I took my daughter on the alpine loop on my tiger800 and it was miserable! All these damn sxs have ruined the roads and were a constant threat to our safety on the way up to lake city from Silverton.
They are everywhere. I won’t even go up on a weekend anymore. That’s not even to mention the dust. I’m for everyone getting up in the mountains but I understand the frustration.
I cannot for the life of me get the new bracket into the fairing for the tail light relocation... do you have any pics available on you reassembled it?
Dealer wanted $600 to do the 300 mile service. I did the oil change myself, costing about $80 in oil and filter. Engine runs smoother now. Now I have to study how to inspect the valves.
Hello there! In this video I was wearing a Joe Rocket leather jacket instead of one of my textile jackets. The model is 1992. I believe o got it from Dennis Kirk. I have a video for my standard jacket on the channel. Thanks!
Interesting, where did you purchase the cam? Neither the USA nor the UK answer my emails. I got one email from the UK telling me to send my credit card info and address and when I asked them about shipping with UPS all I got was silence. Seems gone are the days of real customer service and talking with real human beings over the phone. I guess they figure my way or the highway. Then these companies wonder why everyone is going to Amazon for everything.
It was Hitchcock’s UK. I signed up for the waiting list at the time and got an email back. Then I emailed to buy, they sent over an invoice and I paid with PayPal direct. I can’t remember how it was shipped. That was a year and a half ago though. No telling the situation now. Wish I had a better answer. Thanks. Good luck!
Nice review! Exactly the information i have been looking for, trying to decide between this and the Arai. Coming from the scorpion, i think what you said hits the nail on the ehad perfectly... I feel like anything from one of the top brands will be better than the noise enhancing rattle box i wear now. LoL 😂
Hey, your himmy sounded happy on those trails! Glad to know that you think a 14T front sprocket makes sense too! I'm days away from receiving my shipment of 14T front sprocket as well, so this video was perfect. I'm curious, were you using the stock chain or did you have to remove a link for the 14T? Thanks!
Hey Afdal! Thanks for watching. Good question! I had to get a longer chain for the 16 tooth, but the 14 tooth worked fine with the stock chain. Should for you as well unless maybe yours is more worn. Good luck with it. It was a good trial for me. I’m gonna keep it for a while.
I have the Tec cam and still couldn’t get up some of my trails in the mountains with a 15 tooth sprocket. So, I’m trying a lower geared sprocket. It’s all about the trails for me and many are steep and at elevations of 10k plus feet. Gotta run for what you ride, right? Thanks!
Welcome back, Ron! Hope your new job affords you more quality time doing what you love. That ride was a arm chair grabber. Sound was a little muffled, but the footage was spot on. I Did not miss much riding time down the road here in Vegas through your snow months. July and August is when we will slow way down. The Himmy sounded and crushed those trails. Great job!
Thanks! At least now when I’m off, I’m off. We’re never off when self employed…😉I tried something new with the audio. Some folks said they really miss the sound of the Himmy when I process it more to remove background noise and such. So, I left it more raw. We’ll see. I appreciate the feedback. It helps me make adjustments. It was a fun trail though short. Glad you were able to get out and keep riding! Got plans for more big passes this year. Much less snow, so it should be much sooner than last year. Thanks again!
Hi , I have fitted the Tec cam , !6 tooth front sprocket , AND , changed the rear sprocket from 38 to 36 tooth ,(this also means you dont need a new chain ) really has improved the bike , better pull , better get up and go , more relaxed top end , love it ,
As another UK biker, who is considering getting back into motorbikes, but mainly for commuting (getting to work!) and recreational road riding, I am seriously considering getting a Himalayan. I like the look of them, I want a more upright riding position, and I am quite happy with a slightly lower powered bike, but with enough 'get up and go' to keep up with traffic. The Himalayan seems to fit everything that I want, at a reasonable price, and nothing too electronic (my last bikes were a RE Army Bullet and a Triumph T140e Bonneville, so I love the more simple bikes!) Thanks for your thoughts on the Himi - it is looking more likely that I will get one (if my wife is happy with it...)
I have a long oval head and wear a large in Shoei Neotec II. It fits amazingly! I recently purchased the Hornet and I am really pleased with it. I tend to believe a large would have worked best but I really struggled getting my head in it. Once in it felt really snug in all the right ways. But getting my head in it without pain seems important, so I sized up. I think the XL also fits pretty well, but in hindsight I wonder if thinner cheek pads might have helped me get the large over my head. Ventilation on the Hornet is much better for me than the Neotec and I think it’s pretty quiet. Overall I’m really pleased. By comparison I had an Arai XD4 before it. I wore an XL in it and added Large cheek pads to tighten up the fit. Overall the Shoei Hornet is a better fit for my head, and I’m experiencing MUCH less “lift” when riding. I assume it’s the venting of the peak.
Hey Eddie! Thanks for the comment and real world experience debrief. This is the first premium helmet I have purchased and it was a unique experience with regards to fit. I don’t have any local shops within 100 miles that carry these so it was a gamble on size. When I first started wearing it I thought I had gotten a size too small since getting it on was a bit more snug than I was accustomed to especially when putting it on. That turned out to be simply the feel of a helmet that fits. That was another unique experience. I did opt for the thinner check pads and now I really feel naked without this particular helmet and very secure with it on. I guess the most telling part is I haven’t remotely considered looking for another helmet since break in. Thanks and be safe out there!
Great video! A big bore kit is just not in the cards for me, so I love to hear about modifications I can make (e.g. 16 tooth sprocket/chain, tec camshaft, air intake/exhaust, booster plug) to increase performance that are relatively lower cost. I appreciate your content. Please keep up the great work, brother!
I went ahead and bought the whole chain from Amazon; 525/120. I couldn’t find a link to add specifically and most folks recommended against trying to fit one to a chain you already have. Hope that helps!
@@bswear77 you are correct. Can’t remember off the top of my head. I’d have to go watch that video where I changed the chain. It ended up being only one longer than oem though.
Hi, i own Himalayan 2022, im also thinking about bar risers but it's look like you need to extend the clutch and hand brake... Did you manage to install them without any extension? Thank you
That's how I do it with the TEC camshaft. 0.09 inlet, 0.20 outlet. No problems for 15,000 km. When the engine is worn out I will install a big bore kit. It's not all that expensive. Have fun with your REH, greetings
FOUR MINUTES!! Four freaking minutes!!! That's how long I had to wait for you to get done with your pointless, rambling introduction. Dude -- just get to the point. Nobody wants to watch your multi-angle face shots or listen to a bunch of nothing before you get to the point. Oh, and Klim is pronounced with a long I. Just sayin.
I really wouldn't set the exhaust to 0.23. I set it no bigger than 0.2 even though 0.23 is the factory recommendation. I've heard of a number of people having damaged exhaust valves (pitting in the top of the valve stem) precisely because of the hammering it gets with that huge gap. But I'm no expert. Just looking for as much objective information as possible!!
Just remember that the odometer on the Himmy is likely to be highly inaccurate (known issue). But, you're comparing an inaccurate from before the 16-tooth to an inaccurate after the 16-tooth, so assuming that the inaccurate is fairly consistent, the bike's performance has definitely made progress! I'm about to put a 16-tooth on mine as well. Ride safe!
Will do! Thanks. I have a 14 tooth on currently. As soon as the snow clears, I’m gonna hit some steep trails and see the difference. Admittedly it’s all based on the buttometer. 😂
All speedometers are inaccurate for reason. Law. So all.manufactures will usually make the speed read faster than you are actually travelling. This woukdnt be an issue specific to Himalayans.
I sure am planning on it. Waiting on snow to leave now. I took a new job at the end of last summer that blew up those plans. All settled now. Thanks for asking!
I just bought a Royal Enfield Himalayan . I bought the Enfield jacket, which sized a size small. I'm 5'9" 195 lbs , size 11 and the jacket must be a extra large to fit properly. I love it. fits better than any other jacket I tried. I bought a set of Bilt ADV pants and a Sedici Granda boots. I did look at these, but for $50 more onsale, I spent the extra money. I have taken everything for a ride, and I will have to adjust the shifter for the boots to be able to shift the bike without fighting the upshift. I did have to go up one full size. I am your newest subscriber. great content
Hey John, nice to have you on board! Seems like you’re set for some fun. I had to adjust my lever as well. It was a challenge to get it just right with some of the steep inclines I go up as well. Enjoy the bike and stay safe!
