I want to use an e5440 with an external vga monitor, and be able to leave off the internal monitor completely. I tried this with a n4110 and it would not boot without the monitor. Would you know if the e5440 will work without the internal monitor? Thanks.

No, you do not. You can skip to 6:12 and follow the instructions from there.

What is the size of hinge cover screws?

They are (2) 2mm X 3mm screws.

came here because I needed to see how the ribbon cable was removed, but there are other videos that don't involve taking most of this laptop apart to replace the screen. You just need to remove the bezel, remove 4 screws, unplug ribbon cable, then reverse for the new screen. I like the detail in this video but I think the title should be revised

change the name of add instructions to the video...Now I understand why repair in general is so bloody expensive... Hell, you take the wheels and disk breaks off of the car and remove the doors to replace the windscreen. For an FYI how the laptop is assembled, it is a cool vid, but the name is rediculous.
