For anyone else doing something similar check the specs on your motherboard before you invest in parts. This system only supports a max 8 gigs of ram. Also, upgrading from 1333mgz to 1600mhz has no benefit. If you can get 1600mhz ram cheaper and easier than a 1333mhz, by all means go for it. It will work, but don’t be under the impression that it’s an upgrade. It will still only work at the lower 1333mhz speed because that’s the max the motherboard supports
Core 2 quad, 8gb ram, ssd and graphics card. Can make these good for modern browsing. They struggle with 1080p 60fps youtube videos otherwise. Nowadays the later i5 3470 4580 machines are similar priced and a much better bet and more current.
My Optiplex 380 setup...E8600 3.33Ghz,RAM 2 x 4GB 1333MHz (8GB), 2 SSD (Kingston SA400s37 ATA Device (240 GB)+Samsung SSD 860 EVO 250GB ATA devices) 15 PIN SATA Male to SATA female 1:2 Y splitter... with a SATA 15 pin male to 6 PIN PCI-Express PCI-E card adapter cable plugged in to one of the female ends [allowing one SSD to co-exist with a 6 PIn being free to power one of the following (you have options)>>> a tall NVIDIA 650 graphics card (take lid off) or a low form NVIDIA 650 Ti (if you remove the graphics card fans+ remove holding bracket that hold main cpu heatsink+plus if you saw off a metal piece of the rear case on the computer, a part of the frame...it will go in.) All this with a 15 pin VGA monitor. I run Win 7 Ultimate. The NVIDIA 650 (£15 on ebay) gets a 7.9 rating on graphics whereas the NVIDIA 650 Ti (£30) gets only 7.4 but a higher 6.7 rating overall. ENJOY. PS I used a jewellers saw to remove that tiny section of the case to get the graphics card in. POWER is the standard 255W it came with. I removed the CD player and old-school hard disks, just tape over the front slot. I have my Optiplex on its side and open.
Sounds like a Frankenstein computer. I love to hear people modifying their devices to fit their use cases. Good job. If it runs and doesn't get too hot I'd call it a win. You should send a picture in my discord.
hey man i am little confused with something that dose my optiplex 380 support 8 gb ram because few mont ago i bought 4gb ram stick for my pc, and i thought i will buy 4 gb more later, then i will have 8gb ram, but my 4gb ram stick didn’t work it gave me beeping sound previously it was 2gb x2 now could my ram be faulty? and i read really mixed stuff about this thing supporting 8gb ram online i’ve seen many people arguing some saying it dose support 8gig some saying it dont on dell website, could it be that there are different versions of 380 some support 8gig and some don’t? btw my 4gb ram stick is different from the old one could it be because of that? also can i use both ssd and hdd on this?
You have to make sure the Ram you bought is DDR3. The system should support 8GB. If you wanted to have a SSD and HDD you can do it either by removing the disk drive and installing an adapter that adapts the disk drive slot to a 2.5" or 3.5" drive slot. You could also get a PCIe to m.2 adapter and get an nvme m.2 SSD and do it that way. Then you don't have to remove the disk drive. It may be possible that some of these computers shipped with boards that only supported 4gb of RAM but I'm not sure.
@@edsol4115 sadly no i wasn’t able to solve the problem if i remember correctly some models supported 8gig ram and some didn’t idk why. But fortunately i was able to buy a new pc and everything is fine now, tho there is one thing just putting a single 8gb ram stick might not work but 2x4gb ram might work.
I Have Got A Dell Optiplex 9010 And It Has A NVIDIA GT 1030 Graphics Card And I Have Bought And Ordered A AMD RX 580 8GB It's Being Delivered Today And I Am Wondering If It Will Work On The Dell Optiplex 9010 I Have 275W And 16 GB Ram And A Intel Core i5-3470 CPU And Windows 10 Home I Will Probably Have To Remove The Hard Drive Cage To Make Room For The AMD RX 580 8GB Graphics Card But Will It Be Compatible With The Dell Optiplex 9010. Great Video By The Way.
Yes, you can use the Intel Core Two Quad Q9650 because it uses the LGA 775 socket. You would have to update the bios before upgrading the CPU. You can add USB 3.0 if you add a PCIe x1 card to to the PCIe x16 slot. It should fit and work properly. Side note, I'm not sure what speed the PCIe slots are on this machine so I'm not sure how fast the USB ports would be.
@@warriorharj79 it is a good cheap PC. Upgrading the CPU would be worth while in my opinion but don't expect it to have brand new PC speeds. The lastest bios update is on Dell's website.
