Hey Thanks a million, tripped over my charging cable today and knocked my Dell xps 15" .... 3ft onto floor and busted up all the plastic mounts for hinges and spent the afternoon fixing everything thanks to you. I'm sure it would have cost me a lot to get fixed in a shop. By the way hinges much more robust on the 9550 model thank god. All working fine now.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your effort in making this video. My hinge wasn't actually broken, it just came loose. Such, I was able to fix the wobble without even buying new hinges. Although I feel spite towards Dell for other issues, I must compliment them for this to being actually quite easily fixable.

I had an ant infestation in the hinge area between the screen and the laptop base. Thanks to your video I could open the plastic cover (12:27) and cleanup.
Thanks! Awesome videos as always. This is exactly what I needed to fix my loose hinges. All four screws were super loose where they attach to the screen. I added some loctite so hopefully it stays nice and tight for a while.
This is an old post, but just in case it is still an open question, the plastic part that the hinges are screwed to are part of the palm rest assembly. It is a metal piece that comes welded on to the bottom of the palm rest and breaks off when the computer is dropped.

Try to figure out the exact part number from your Service Tag ID or invoice or from the part itself. Then, order the part number from eBay. Try to order genuine Dell parts pulled from a Dell laptop or new genuine Dell parts instead of ones that just say “for Dell” to assure original quality.
Hi! You have very helpful video tutorials. I have a similar problem with my laptop. The antenna cable on my Dell XPS 15 9550 broke when I changed the wireless card (specifically, the connector for the bluetooth was damaged from the beginning and it's affecting bt connections to other devices). I have ordered a new cable, but I am not sure how it is usually replaced? The other end of the cable seems to just end suddenly, there doesn't seem to be any connecting part whatsoever. So I was wondering if yu could do a video on that maybe? Or if you have some pictures explaining the process, that would be awesome! Thanks, Sabina
Thanks very much for the most useful demonstration. I replaced my XPS 13 9350 hinges without problem, but what I discovered broken was actually the frame surrounding the motherboard, is that replaceable? 😢
What about when the hinge itself doesn’t break but instead the crappy metal that the hinge is screwed into breaks? The metal standoffs which are part of the display case.
At 9:50 as I was disconnecting the card reader power cable (the one intertwined with / taped to the LCD), it really did not want to come out of the port and the cable snapped. What replacement part do I need? Do I need to replace the entire display assembly? And what happens if I try to use the laptop without having the card reader power cable plugged in?
Do you have a video for how to replace the gray plastic tube on left back side near hinge. My laptop is not closing correctly- it is now bending near the charging port - sigh
What is the symptom of a broken hinge? I have an XPS 13 9370 that recently started snapping on one corner when I open it up and the bottom of the case seems to be separating from the top when it does that. Is that a broken hinge there, or something else? Also, the round power cord port next to this area is sometime blocked and doesn't seem to work now. I have to use the USB C charger. Do you offer repair work if someone mails their laptop to you for repair. I can only guess how expensive DELL would be. Thanks!
Great video, and the only one I have found which shows how to remove the hinge cover! I have a damaged LCD display cable on my XPS 9360, is replacing the LCD cable on the screen side easy? When you have the screen off on your video, it shows the plug on the LCD assembly side is still a bit obscured by the glass plate.
And where exactly did you find the hinges? I have a dell xps 15 9570 could I be confident that hinges for the 9550-9560 model would also fit the 9570 model?
Thank you for the excellent video. I have a dell xps 13 9333 with a broken hinge. Many sellers have hinges for all the xps 13 models - from the early L321X to the more recent models such as 9370. But no one seems to have hinges for the 9333. Is there something unique about the hinges in this model? Will L322X or 9343 which came just before and after, fit this model. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Thank you so much for the detailed instruction! I have had so many problems with this Dell xps 13. Besides the broken hinges, the headphone rack of my laptop does not always recognize headphones. I have to plug the headphones in and restart the computer so that I can use the headphones. Do you know how to fix this problem by any chance? Again, awesome video on the hinges.
Download and install dell SupportAssist software... I've had the same problem forever and it fixed it (don't know for how long, but it's working now). you can try it
I hate Dell, as a early retired it sys admin, this laptop is a POS. I am used to the HP Elitebooks, built like tanks. I thought I had broken hinge, but its the bracket the hinge attaches to, the wifi module cables came off but the connector on one came off too, so disappointed with this laptop for so many reasons, 9360. I ended up supergluing the peice that came off, I had a sheared standoff for the corner bottom case cover. The alternative is replacing the entire palm assembly that while not super expensive for the part, a real PIA to do that swap, hopefully this fix will hold. The wifi connections are terrible, the older laptops just used scews, why they switched to the wonky mini antenna connection is beyond me, I super glued the Bluetooth connector to the connection, should hold, never really use that anyways.
I fucking broke the cable of the card reader power, FML. AND FUCK DELL, their computers are horrible, I FUCKING HATE THEM !!! That thing was soooo tight, impossible to remove!!
