Feels, I can say my mind gave me up. Was in selection and doing the long ruck and just kept asking myself if I really wanted to do this, hip was already hurting and I let that be the reason I "couldn't" continue. I basically gave up midway through the ruck. I could have pushed and made up the time I lost but I would stop running every time I asked my self if this is really what I wanted.. still kick myself everyday for not telling myself to shut up and dig, but I'm also happy in life where I am now. So I try not to beat myself up too bad because I realized I didn't want it as much as I thought.

If this a true story, you're a hard working stud who has or will do awesome shit. I'd leave all this behind ya if you could. I regret everyday not joining a branch that would have gotten me into combat. As someone who was a senior on 9/11 I should have done it and got some get back. That regret and guilt I have will never leave. Came from a military family and I was the perfect candidate. My life went down hill real fucking fast immediately after graduation from high school. I try and look at like maybe I would have died first deployment or before I got off the bird. That makes it easier. I valued at the time the friends and disloyal gf I had so much at the time that I just didn't do it. Back then and maybe still, the Marines I believe had a buddy program where you could go in with a friend and maybe get put into a unit. He didn't go either and would have made a fucking amazing operator. Stud wrestler, small, strong, hunted and just built for it. Would have been a good team. Nothing I can do now about it, but it sucks. Not gonna be one of those weirdo fake tactical guys though.

Actually one can train for the cold, such training will lead to neurological adaptation and changes in brown fat tissue. At some point of training many people will even begin to enjoy being in cold water because of dopamine release etc. E.g. Professor Andrew Huberman talks about this in his podcast and he is someone who has research connections to the SEALs. I don't know why many operators say otherwise in public; maybe they don't want people to train for it so the military can better select for candidates with genetical advantages for cold tolerance, which also exist.
@chad5577
@chad5577 Год назад
I’m not sure what Eddie said on this but Rob O’Neil spoke against taking cold showers. I’m all for empirical evidence - but when I see people write about how taking cold showers and ice baths help reduce “psychological and bodily shock” in every yt comments section, I always think to myself, “Well by how much? And how much in turn would that help someone pass buds?” There’s cold, yet also lack of sleep, muscle fatigue, pain, stress. Even if someone felt no shock from the cold water, there’s also the all other things. Eddie and Rob both went through Buds and Green Team - something only a very small subset of the human population could pass. Personally, I believe they have unique insight, and when they go against what empirical research suggests, to me it seems that there are several layers to this argument.
@davidschorn5870
@davidschorn5870 Год назад
@@chad5577 Yes, O'Neil and others say "the cold is like a kick in the nuts, you can't train for that, it will hurt each time" but I can't see how this would be a valid comparison and essentially it means to make your training more comfortable (warm showers), but on the other hand they say something like "as a SEAL you get trained to be comfortable with being uncomfortable". As cold baths also have several health benefits concerning the immune system, metabolism etc. it could only be beneficial - if done correctly, e.g. at the right times in the training schedule. Of course the cold is only one of many elements in BUD/s, but it seemed to me that the majority of SEALs when asked in interviews "what was the hardest", mention being cold and wet all the time.
@blaineedwards8078
@blaineedwards8078 Год назад
I think you are taking his statement out of context. He is saying that you can't train for the cold within the sphere of the total BUD/S experience as a whole, being pushed to that level that only happens during the course. It is taking into account the vast amount of other factors and stressors that will be at play upon each candidate along with attempting to conserve body heat. He means that BUD/S is a one of a kind experience that previous cold exposure training cannot simulate, taken as just one component of a very large, multifaceted world of pain and suffering.

I disagree about the getting used to being cold one, sleep deprivation is different but you can definitely get used to the cold. I go in iced over lakes where there’s a spring and the first time I could only be in there for seconds now I can go for minutes. I also shower using my hose in the morning and at night with Ice cold Water when it’s like -2 out. And I honestly love it, I get exited to do it in the mornings now and I definitely have built up a resistance to it.
@jceruiz7144
@jceruiz7144 Год назад
Your minutes long- resistance won’t translate in a program where you get exposed to the cold for hours in combination with a lot physical drills and running miles EVERYDAY. You do your cold baths when you feel like doing them and only minutes a day and then you go on with your day. BUDst is weeks and weeks long and even dudes that are in insanely good shape quit left and right in the process.

@@jceruiz7144its like saying that u cant get used to running 225 miles a week. Or course you cant. But if u go from running 25 to 75 miles a week, your chances of going through buds will skyrocket. Buds or any sof selection is suposed to be like that, its suposed to push you past ur limits to test your metal. It doesnt mean that getting slightly more used to cold, wont increase your chances by few %, just like getting a tiny bit fitter. But at the end itd all about the ones will
@jacobtimbers
@jacobtimbers 7 месяцев назад
@@jceruiz7144wim hof would have zero issues dealing with the cold water part. So that sort of disproves that you technically can't train for it. But not everyone can train to be in cold water for an hour a day so it'd be very difficult to do. Doing some basic cold showers for a minute a day will only increase your odds of making it by like 0.01% though

I know someone is going to laugh at me, but you speak of, "SQT" and spoke of someone getting dropped during that time and that's what 26 weeks?. I joined the Army at the age of 30 years old after graduating from college and being an undercover narcotics officer for 8 years. Let me just say, I didn't go to a police department ever. I did not put on a uniform and chase taillights. My grandpa told me I needed to serve my country, but of course, I told him I do serve my country. He said, "NO, you have to join the military. So I left a great paying job to go to Fort Benning, GA, in 1999 and do my part. My question is, after SQT, what is the next phase? I have four really close friends that are Seals, but If I call them asking them questions, they are going to laugh at me, because I think I still have it at 53 years old. I jump, I dive, and I live for my rush all the time. I love my Halo jumps and I live for the next time I can go do it, but I was never anything like you guys, of course. I love watching you guys talk about it, because I was meant to be there, but when I finished all my training, I was 34 and went back to arresting drug dealers and kicking ass in my way. I now I write, produce and direct movies. I am so proud of you guys and all of those that kicked ass. Thank you for doing this youtube thing, I love it and God Bless you. Navy did a experiment where they attenpted to figure ,"who if any were most likely to make it through BUDS?" Football, baseball players . That didnt get into the NFL.,MLB .Water polo athletes, etc. etc etc? No matter the combination? It was always 80%? that didnt get through? They said that," there was a healthy amount of H.S. college wrestlers and guy's from Maine?" Not enough of a percentage that would qualify to be a relevent statistic? Navy stance is that there's never enough SEALS ? So they were looking into how to get more BUDS students to graduate, per. class.. Without lowering standards? No matter the combination. It was always 20% that graduated? Hopefully the 9th place ribbon BS doesn't infect this aspect of the military ?
