Pacquiao vs Marquez - Who Won The Rivalry? A quick look back at all 4 fights in the epic boxing rivalry between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. www.boxing247.com/
@@boxingclassics3833 Marquez does a lot of body work that doesn't grab the eye, but slowly changes the terms of the engagement. If you notice those shots, more, then Manny dropping his right and giving up on his jab is happening for a reason, and not just a tactical error. I tend to give more weight to hard body punches, maybe more than I should. I think both fighters learned from each other. Manny found someone he couldn't just overwhelm and who punished him every time he left himself open. Marquez knew his strategy had to involve weathering a storm of punishment. I think fighting Manny 4 times showed he was no coward, but also convinced him 4 was enough. He had to take a lot of shots to win any of those fights, and I bet his head didn't feel right for a month after, if ever.
Pretty much the most exciting; well matched against each other for their fighting styles. Manny gets most of the attention, but Marquez was no slouch either.
pffft. Pacquiao, with a little more controlled pace and style, would have 4 wins. Nothing against Marquez, he's excellent in his own right, but he's no Pacquiao...
WappaMan 1 I agree but let’s not discredit Marquez, he was definitely Pac-Man’s greatest rival/competitor Edit: Marquez’s KO on Pacquiao was no fluke, he timed him perfectly
Marquez is Pacquiao's nemesis. So much respect for this Mexican fighter who has a lion heart. Was knocked down so many times but always stood up on his feet. 0 knockout losses
No matter who you believe won this rivalry, everyone must agree on this: This is one of the greatest rivalries in the history of boxing. If not the greatest.
But it could very easily have been crystal clear the other way. Pac-Man was dominant and with each of his victory being questioned, he pushed for a KO when he should have just won on points or wait for an opening as opposed to pushing for it.
Manny won the first fight, he won the second fight the knockdown being the difference, I don't understand the controversy following the third fight Manny outlanded Marquez and he threw more punches, Manny should not have given Marquez the fourth fight but Manny got KO. I was at the second fight if Manny would have stepped up the pace he could have possibly stopped Marquez, the word is Manny had to lose five pounds the day before the weigh in, Manny also lacked killer instinct in the fight something we saw from him later in his career, the third fight was fought at a faster pace than was the second. Juan Manuel Marquez hung his hat on that KO then got beat by Bradley, Pacquiao is still a champion nine years after the KO that KO and his loss to Horn and the way he was robbed in the first Bradley fight are the only blemishes on a hall of fame career no one will match what Pacquiao has done in our lifetime Marquez will be in the bleachers when Pacquiao is inducted into the Hall of Fame.
1-dimensional analysis. Both are amazing, one guy got clipped in a bad moment. could've been either guy. It just so happened to be Paquiao's turn to Fall.
Both fighters went down very different paths in boxing, but their bouts were like checkpoints where they would check each other's progress in skill. Amazing stuff, and we are lucky to have witnessed the arguably greatest rivalry in boxing history.
How many quadrilogies have there really been in boxing not that many so to sae this is the best is like saying cta is the best public transportation in chicago well how many public transportation services is there in chicago and I dont mean uber or lyft cause that's everywhere and greyhound is country wide
Excellently done. I always rooted for Pacman, but always understood always that Marquez was his kryptonite in a way. It was always a bad match up for him.
yet he never pussied out against his kryptonite. he ended up losing the last fight without question, but he never let it become the shameful end of his career like he did to others, instead he pushed through and still got himself great victories
I think just the opposite. Without a super-tough opponent like JMM to test his mettle, he might have been more careless in other fights, or not even stepped up to other weight classes to destroy rivals there. But I can agree with you that Marquez was a kryptonite fighter for him - but JMM was an elite fighter in his own right - it was no accident he was such a tough opponent for Manny. This series was some of the best boxing to be had, period.
@@Michaelw777.52 Same with Marquez, Manny made him a better boxer too and in the end both boxers made each other evolve. I have huge respect for both fighters equally
@Midnightrambler3760 I never understand Mayweather fans need to paint that fight as a dominant win for Mayweather. He barely edged out Manny on points, Manny hurt him Mayweather did not hurt Manny and basically Manny chased him all over the place for 12 rounds. Should have fought a lot earlier but Mayweather dodged him forcing Manny to take a fourth fight where Marquez caught him and Manny was never as aggressive going forward. That's when Mayweather decided to finally take the fight. Should have been a rematch but again Mayweather dodged, retired and now he fights amateurs when he needs the money
The only 8 division world champion in history. The only 5 division "Lineal" champion in history. The "Oldest" Welterweight world champion in history. @@gadgetreviewunlimited9361 u clearly dont know shit about boxing lmao floyd landed more punches than pac in their fight if anything it was manny who made the fight boring cause he kept missing his offense
Lol he is afraid. That was a luck. He refused to fight Manny again . He can't do a shit to Bradley and Mayweather and look what Pacquiao. Marquez was fighting like a punching bag against Mayweather 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Two rivals with total respect for each other's hardwork. By far the best rivalry in their era and I think its the best rivalry since Ali and Frazier. I am totally a Pacman fan, but I also respect Marquez's skills and talents.
But if not with the stupid judges that scored 10-7 instead of 10-6 for pacquaio. There would never be 3rd and 4th fight.. That would end to thr rivalry..with Manny winning 2 fights..
When a new Rummy’s Corner vid comes out, I stop what I’m doing and I take time to give a viewing 👍🏻😬👍🏻 Love the channel and content ! Keep up the great work 👍🏻
The ref should have DQ Pacquiao for hitting Marquez when he was down on the canvas in the first round, that is automatic DQ or minimum one point deduction. Watch Norris vs Santana get DQ for the same thing Pac did.
You must be mad? That was a taxi. Close fight, even if Pac has won this would be a demand for a rematch because neither one dominated the fights till the 4th .💤
If Mayweather never dodged Pacquiao the fourth fight never would have happened. But honestly who gives a guy a third freaking rematch after you beat him twice in a row?! And the guys style gives you trouble? Pacquiao's willingness to fight literally every top contender which I admire, is what screwed him here.
Styles makes fights. Pacquiao is clearly the greater fighter but Marquez matched up very well with Pacquiao. Great rivalry. Marquez wins the rivalry while Pacquiao wins the legacy. One of the greatest to do it all time.
This is great work. You should do more of these with fights that have questionable outcomes. I'm sure many of us would really enjoy seeing more of these great videos. Great job!!!
What a great rivalry. Watching this makes me realize how much I miss seeing JMM in the ring. I only called one of these fights a bad decision and that was the third. Respect to two legends of the ring.
When it comes to the old rivalry, I think Marquez won. But at the end of the day, Pacquiao proves to be the real Champion as he's still fighting and active until now, let alone that Marquez rejected Pacquiao's request for a 5th rematch, which only proves Marquez' unfairness ! ... 👑👑👑
Rummy, this was a GREAT collective of edited videos and definitely your excellent technical and intelligent views and narrative of this amazing quadrilogy!!! Really an excellent job! Thank you!!!
*I appreciate the effort and passion youve given to create this video. I hope you can make an in depth analysis of Pac-Bradley 1 and Pac-Mayweather* More power
Knock down and he is the winner ? Lol. Rematch ! Blood test after the fight honest fight. To see the real goat! Marquez is not even better than Morales. Marquez is boastful , ambitious. He never win to Bradley . He. Almost knock down in the last round.
my favorite boxers of all time (bias since this was my era, no disrespect to the "4 horseman in boxing" back in the days) 1.Pacquiao "Pacman" 2.Marquez "Dynamita" 3.Barrera "Baby Face Assassin" 4.Morales "El Terrible"
Rummy, you have the benefit of time, slow motion and replay so wouldn't you say your scoring quality is much better than all of the judges? You can count exactly how many punches connects, with how much power, etc.
@@dianatriv29 i believe Pacquiao won the first clearly and the 3rd one,, the 2nd fight is close i score it 113 ,114 for Pacquiao because of knockdown.. , but the 7 and 11 round is very confusing to score this fight will gone either way.
Masterful presentation, Rummy--thank you! I was at the the Marquez vs Casamayor fight, and from where I sat, JMM is truly a legend in his own right who lives in no one's shadow.
Very fair and reasonable scoring. I always thought it was odd hearing people say Marquez got robbed in the first three fights. The first three fights couldn't have been any closer and could have easily gone either way.
as a Filipino, honestly I have the first fight for pacman, second fight a tie, but 3rd fight for maequez. So overall I think juanma won the rivalry. It was pretty tight though. Epic rivalry
unbornmetal your a Filipino?? then "! your the biggest idiot in this planet " traitor of your own blooline "! crabmentality "! nextime you will do is selling your children " if that is your mindset "
As always a fantastic video Rummy, thank you for the entertainment! I really dig the rivalries in professional boxing as it really provides a clear view on the "heart" of the boxers in question (I hope the comment section agrees with me on this). In your opinion, which were the best/closest rivalries in boxing history? Peace brother!
Yes Marquez was a defensive fighter which was perfect bto defeat the aggressive pacquiao, both may and Marquez were defensive fighters which means 1 of the 2 would have to leave their comfort zone to put a fight and that had to be Marquez.
@@juanrmz8436 why he take the fight ? stfu with the post fight excuses before everyone said hed floor floyd like they did for canelo too! he was 20 lbs bigger then floyd so was cotto
I'm a huge Pacman fan, but Marquez won the rivalry. Marquez is not a better boxer than Pacman, its just Pacman's style is made for Marquez's giving him the advantage in all their battles. I do think the current Pacman beats any version of Marquez, for his less aggressive style.
And the excuses begin, ironic that the same ppl that defend their favorite fighter in pacquiao is the same fighter that has been accused for PEDs for YEARS now 😂
Whew! Video was as epic as the fights. :) loved it! Manny Pacquiao said if he can go back and changed any of his past fights he definitely wont change his Losses esp to eric morales and Marquez. He learned in his losses and it helped him be the extraordinary fighter that he is today. Even winning against the new era of boxers today
On my card after 9 in the third fight I had it 5 rounds to 4 for Marquez. Then Nacho told Marquez he had the fight in the bag and to take his foot off the gas. I ended up 115-113 for Paquiao. Huge mistake by Nacho.
Also in the 4th fight Marquez was badly hurt despite KD Pac-Man in rd 3. By the 5th if I were the ref perhaps I’d stopped and many pundits said that the 4th fight wouldn’t go full distance since Marquez was baldy Burt. But all 4 fights were great
@lo_V uis if that stupid judges scored it correctly.. There would be no 3rd and 4th fight. And would end the rivalry with Manny winning 2 fights.. its a shame to ask for 3rd fight if u lose twice.. lol
Thank you Rummy's Corner for this thoughtful analysis. Pacquiao Marquez - Legendary! One of the greatest rivalries in the history of boxing and all of sport - in the same class as Ali/Frazier, Robinson/LaMotta, Yankees/RedSox, Packers/Bears! What a display of extreme human endeavor, and testament to courage, grit, and determination. All and all this 4 fight rivalry is an inspiration and what makes sports great.
Saludos
Joe Soto lol stop it even if u think Castillo won it was t by a landslide lmao that fight was really close where it could have gone either way so please stop showing ur hate towards Floyd 😂
@@Kevin-zj9rn close my ass. Maidana vs Mayweather was very close, Delahoya vs Mayweather was very close but Castillo vs Mayweather was not even close. Castillo won it easily. I can still remember watching that fight and everyone thought that although Mayweather is way more talented than Castillo, the latter manages to take the former to school with timely shots.
Franz Liszt arrogance aside he wasn’t going to make a splash as p4p ever . He didn’t have the will or desire to comeback . A true measure of a champion
Legendary!!!???? 😂 he was a joke of a fighter he beat bums until he fought someone good namely Berrara he was a hype job prince Naseem was no legend buddy he was a joke
Marquez took it, he was the only one to win decisively any fight (i had the 1st fight for Pac, 2nd for Marquez but very close, i can understand the decision, 3rd clear victory for Marquez, no discussion, 4th ko). Most likely i'll get the "took him 4 tries" thing, but Pac also had 4 tries and never beat marquez clearly. Even though i feel Marquez was the SLIGHTLY better fighter, his legacy can't hold a candle to Pacman's. I respect and love both these legends, their rivalry is the reason i'm a boxing fan today. We the fans are the true winners.
What Marquez did fight one was nothing short of amazing, to come back from that devastating Round 1 and adapt so fast, find the answers immediately. And outbox Pacquiao throughout most of the fight, just incredible.
Pacquiao won the first 2 fights and the 3rd fight was a draw. Stylistically Marquez was always a nightmare for Pacquiao and he was a great fighter but Pacquiao is historically a much better fighter. Please keep making videos Rummy! Your channel is great.
Pacman is more accomplished but Marquez is pacquiao's equal as a fighter and the Superior boxer in terms of skills. He put pacman to sleep so I don't see how one could argue otherwise.
@@oscarmarroquin4374 if marquez had superior skills he wouldnt need steroids to beat pac come on. common sense man. he wouldnt lose to pac of he had more skills
