A fight-by-fight recap of Mike Tyson's entire professional boxing career, including highlights, knockouts, and more! #MikeTyson #Boxing Mike Tyson - Career Recap (Original Boxing Documentary)
I remember when I was 7 years old I used to watch Tyson on TV, today I am 41 years old and still watching his fight... I believe I will do it forever...
Blood green was a guest on pistons basketball champ John Sally's show like 20 years later . They started talking about his Tyson fight that he had him beat and Sally's co host said you know Sally is Tysons boy. And then they told Blood green to look at the 1st row of the audience. Mike Tyson was there even blood green laughed when Tyson waved hi. That was epic. A must see. Blood Green did VHS videos and put them out on HBO before social media and YT was a conversation. We have to give him that one.
I KINDA AGREE BUT, A DIRTY MUH FUGGER..i JUST ALWAYS LOST RESPECT FOR HIM WHEN HE GOT HIS ASS HANDED TO HIM BY HOLYFIELD, AND NO CLASS IN BOTH PERFORMANCES. I ENDED UP DISGUSTED THAT HE BECAME A THUG .. THEN AGAIN, HOLYFIELD HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE 3 OF ALL TIME...NO CLASS THOUGH AGAINST THE REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD
@@julietrae8665 After Tyson was released from prison he was never the same fighter again even though he would still win fights. It's better to think of Tyson pre and post prison sentence as two completely different fighter's IMHO as the young Tyson was easily in the top three of all heavyweights throughout the sport's history when it came to goat status whereas Tyson post serving his sentence was a deeply talented fighter who drank too much taking too many drugs and turned up to fights with no proper preparation hoping that the opponent would just fall over without providing any resistance whatsoever. Your gonna have to scrape someone like Holyfield off the canvas way before he'd consider quitting in a fight and he's definitely not the type of dude you want to slip against and not be at your best.
Same here, I first watched Tyson in 1986 as a 13 year old. I didn't know shit about boxing then, but I could tell Mike Tyson was going places. For the record the first boxing telecast I watched on HBO was the doubleheader, Chavez vs Prachett and Holmes vs Spinks I. But it was unquestionably Mike Tyson who I looked up to so much and got so excited to watch him fight and that lead me to become a hardcore fan. The second I started watching regularly was Chavez, and I started to hear the phrase p4p the best fighter.
what peak? at age 23 he got creamed by a low rated buster douglas. he looked good against guys he was supposed to beat most the time but also had a few super dull fights during this period as well.
@@simonjames1604 He looked great against HALL OF FAME LEGENDS such as Larry Holmes and Micheal Spinks at the tender age of 21. I don’t give a f**k that Larry Holmes was out of the ring for 1-2 years. He was a legendary fighter by the time he faced Tyson , and STILL couldn’t f**k with a young Tyson who was only a pro fighter for not even 3 years ! Buster was no slouch, very good fighter indeed, but Tyson had an off-night for-sure that night. 5 years into Tyson’s career, he had 10 title defenses in only 37 fights, and people act like he wasn’t going to have an off-night eventually. Tyson may have been physically in his prime against Buster, but not mentally.
It makes my bile rise whenever i see Don King hovering around a boxer. It always reminds me of a vulture hanging around a dying animal. Great video, btw.
I don't know about a vulture as much as a leech. Mike was fine until Don King attached himself to Mike's bank account and began bleeding him dry, like he did every other boxer.
People say Tyson didn't fight anyone but in the 1986 rankings there, he fought the entire top 10 except Witherspoon by 1989. He was just fighting the guys he was supposed to, something that can't be said of some of today's heavyweights.
he fought guys who werent even household names in their own homes and he was wiped out by a nobody at age 23, you cant say that about any heavyweight champ since tyson .
@@simonjames1604 I wouldn't say the guys aren't complete bums. Call them paper champs all you want but Berbick, Thomas, Smith, Tucker, Biggs, Tubbs, Bruno and Williams were all good heavy weight boxers during all his defenses. Great? Debatable but all very formidable with also a win against Spinks (that didn't look all that great in heavy weight tbh) and an untrained and retired Larry Homes. Also James Douglas wasn't a "nobody". He was a top 10 contender by the time Mike Tyson fought him with wins over McCall, Berbick, Greg Page, Cobb and a good showing against Tony Tucker before he got stopped on the 10th round. Era was kinda similar to late 20's to early 30's where there was alot of passing of the heavy weight crown before Louis took it and held it for over a decade.
18 professional fights in 1 year . That's more than 1 a month. That shits unheard of back then or now. His early downfall was robin Williams her mother and Don king. We can all say he made dumb decisions. But women been bringing man down since the beginning of time. Adam and eve. And Cleopatra got Julius caesar killed by the own senate he started. Pussy been manipulating men Since Genesis chapter 1. Tyson getting played By Robin Williams was nothing new under the sun. She probably wanted a little more than 10 mil. In those 8 months But yo it beats a blank or a couple of thousand from an old out played sitcom. Tell me no. She also took the jersey mansion and a couple of Ferrari's. That some good ass pussy earnings if I do say so myself.
He beat Ruddick twice who had the best smash punch in the heavy weights. Besides Tysons 2 losses and Evander disqualification he KO everybody in the 1st 2 rounds except for Holmes it was in the 8th and 2nd Ruddick rematch. The record of the age Tyson got all 3 belts and the way he did it knocking top 10 boxers in the 1st will never ever be matched or broken. Lewis was real good, but if Tyson would of stayed in the hands that Cus Demato left him in. He would of beaten Lewis and broken Marcianos record easy.
Then who was larry holmes? Who was trevor berbick ? Yeah and who was frank bruno?? That same tired english zebra. Tyson split his f.....king jaw bone on two seperate occassions. Look up michael spinks and those other names mention and their records held in the boiling 80's @@simonjames1604
When you see Tyson in the year of 1985, totally unstoppable. No one has been that good to this day. This was before all those other factors came into his life

15 knockouts in one year! The best ever! Can beat anyone in today's heavyweight category. Mohammed Ali and Tyson are the most beautiful boxers I have seen.
Ali is the greatest of all time and is a hero of mine for all that he did and all that he was in and out of the ring. Tyson was special and who knows what he might have been with Cus around for a few more years. You have to check out www.rottentomatoes.com/m/beautiful_boxer before talking about the most beautiful boxer, though.
@D W naw, Ali knocked out many fighters, even Foreman. Everyone knows he wasn't known as a big puncher but more as the smartest fighter ever. Ali would use his head then eventually his fists to beat Tyson. A prime Tyson would only have a chance against the old Ali, IMO
Tyson probably has most natural way, he moves like fluid. If you watch Floyd Patterson videos, the style is similar, you see the peekaboo, but Tyson completely exploited it, he's short, compact ass shit, the speed, the power, Cus built a kid that should've been on top forever. But, he's probably better mind now. Smart too late, old too soon. Tyson by knockout
It's hard for me to stay objective when judging Mike against other HW boxers. In the ring he just seemed like an absolute beast, a terror. No boxer has ever come even close to being as frightening as Mike.
Yes, it was a pretty magical thing. He transcended the sport in the era of Jordan and many other huge stars and grabbed everyone's attention for a period. Everyone remembers the Douglas KO (I was at a bowling alley playing pool and watching it on the TV's) because Tyson looked unbeatable, and watching him win so decisively time after time had become an event, so seeing him crawling on the canvas looking for his mouthpiece was mindblowing!
IMO the 'prime' Mike Tyson was the fighter prior to his world title success. No matter how many times I watch him fight through '85-'86, I am thoroughly impressed. A complete fighter.
I think the Tyson that went into the spinks fight was the best boxer ever to get into the ring. That Mike could've beat anyone past, present, or future.
1985-1988 Tyson is him at his peak. The way he fought in those years is the main reason why he goes down as one of the best fighters there’s ever been.
They were all fighting over Tyson’s belts in the 90’s! Tyson had went, fought and earned every single one of them things! Youngest and first undisputed champ in history! Goooogle iiiiiit!!!
No need for google some of us watched his career overrated beat middle fighters with fear got his ass handed to him by the top boys and not once avenged a loss only got beat again the only top boxer he beat was a over the hill Holmes
He went through almost every top boy of the 80's. Evander and Buster are lucky they never fought an 86-88 Tyson under Rooney or else they would've been victimized too.
@@gaz196840 He beat 10 current or former world titlests and 2 future hall of famers by the age of 24. Don King basically fucked his career from 1990 onwards and with the rape conviction and three years in jail during his prime he didn’t have much hope of recapturing it.
What amazes me about Tyson is that in a sport where it’s well known height is a massive advantage Tyson managed to make it look like being taller was a huge disadvantage
it actually depends very heavy on your style. Shorter = lower center of mass, shorter arms (more punches thrown) Taller = reach advantage, better jab Tyson and Ali are the prime examples of a "shorter" and "taller" fighters. Just look at their styles in comparison. Ali is much taller but i wouldnt bet too much money on him in a prime vs. prime fight.
Mike Tyson in my eyes is the best Heavyweight fighter to walk planet earth. And I wish to meet him someday. God Bless You Iron Mike Tyson and Bless your whole family also. Sincerely Erne Solis from Orange County, Santa Ana
Yep Mike Tyson is the best heavyweight except for Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Foreman, Ali, Joe Louis, Holmes, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko and Marciano.
Nah it was Cus d'Amatos influence and father role. First that went, than the clairvoyance and hunger, than the speed and motivation. Bound to happen. Fking Don King.
Cus'tantine, damateo always said that ure greatest asset will become ure greatest weakness it did to mike except he was tought the greatest fundamentals when Roy didn't so that gives mike a greater chance
I agree to a certain degree. Mike's style was never going to age very well. His whole style was predicated on running into the line of fire and dodging bullets. The second he started to slow down from age/poor preparation, he started taking too much damage, which slowed him down more. And unfortunately, he didn't really have the height or reach to adjust to a more "safe style"
Tyson is my favorite boxer of all-time and you didn't disappoint here Rummy. It is still my opinion that a "prime Mike Tyson" which is classified under Cus and Rooney's watch is the most unbeatable heavyweight of all-time and would take that version of him (focused and well-trained) against any heavyweight in history. I love your other video on just the Tyson vs Douglas fight, but it still amazes me how unprepared the Tyson camp was for that fight. In addition to Tyson's lack of hunger (vs Buster's immense hunger for the title in honor of his mother's passing), the entire camp took this fight as a joke to the point that they didn't even have an eye swell in the corner...they famously used a rubber glove filled up with cold water to help with the swelling and they couldn't use vaseline because Tyson was allergic. It's truly one of the most disappointing events in terms of what could have been in his legacy if he had the right people still around him keeping him focused, properly trained, and protected. This takes nothing away from Douglas who was absolutely brilliant that night, he doesn't get enough credit for how well of a performance he put in that night. Tyson took and absolute beating for 10 rounds, it wasn't a fluke KO by any stretch of the imagination. Still one of the best combinations thrown for a KO in history of the sport. Speaking of combinations, Tyson's right to the body followed by right uppercut is by far my favorite of all-time. It is beautiful to watch in all his early fights. His speed, power, and elusiveness in those early years were truly legendary.
I saw enough of peak Mike against guys like tillis, tucker, and james smith.. to know that he was never unbeatable and certainly wouldn't of beaten any heavyweight ever.. In fact, If you had a time machine and put the top 10 greatest heavyweights of all time, all at their prime, and put them against a prime Mike Tyson, Mike would do well to even beat 50% of them. I'm talking about a prime Ali, Prime foreman, prime holmes, Prime Lewis, Prime Holyfeild, Prime Liston etc.. a far cry from trevor berbick and the rest of the usual suspects mike was fighting late 80's. Quite frankly, I don't even know if Mike could've ever even beaten a fully fit, fully focused james douglas.. and douglas isn't even an all time great.
I think I've seen this video 3 or 4 times over the years. I really appreciate the work that went into it and the constant commenting. It's intriguing to think what Mike's career could have been if the stuff outside the ring never happened. I do find myself loosing interest soon after Mike's second defeat to Holyfield. Regardless, thank you for the video!
For about a 5 year period Iron Mike was the baddest man on the planet..I was reading the comments below and yes there were great fighters before Tyson but nobody ever had the knockout power, speed, and the desire to try to take his opponents head off..Cus trained him to throw every punch with “bad intentions” and he never disappointed.Once Din King got his hands in Mike’s pockets and he fired Kevin Rooney it was downhill from there unfortunately.
Sorry to to disagree, he looked good against journeymen and people past year best. Whenever he fought anyone of real quality, he lost. He's in the top 20 heavyweights, no doubt, but he's not as good as everyone makes out.
Tyson fought potato can after potato can. Buster Douglas smoked Prime Tyson, after that nobody was really scared of him anymore, Holyfield and Lewis are better than Tyson.
@@commanderaugustus7882 your laying which top heavyweight did he lose to only lenox and holifield they are not the only top heavyweights tayson beated razor ruddock and the guy who beated ali fyck off he fought some of tge best
I've always known of Mike Tyson but have never been informed about his career as a whole. This is one of the many reasons that I love this channel, you see some really good footage as well as learn about the history of the Sweet Science, which is just amazing. I hope that your channel gets more attention because your content is quality and very informative.
Best Tyson capture ever. In my opinion there isn't a fighter that has ever stepped into the ring that would have been able to beat Mike Tyson in his prime and them at their prime.
The ultimate career recap was the best most precise outline of iron Mike's career INSIDE the ring! Where it really counts! It clearly displayed all the important points of Mike's rise and fall in the Heavyweight division! In his prime from 18 yrs of age to 23 crushing and terrorizing the entire division defeating fighters before they even entered the ring! No doubt he is and will always be one of the greatest fighters of all time!!! You the One Mike!!!
@7:46 ive never seen the look on my hero’s face than at that moment. I saw it in my own face seeing a video of me at my fathers funeral.. It took me yrs to realize my father had never really left. Not as long as I was still here, my father was also..
Its amazing how different he looks in the first fight he changed trainers against Frank Bruno. Still thunderous power, but he’s throwing wildly and off-balance, just completely in bad positions. That was honestly the beginning of end for a short but memorable reign. It was just a matter of time before somebody made him pay.
Oh,he was terrible against Bruno, but I don't think it was anything to do with his trainer,he just thought, big stiff Bruno I can do what I want, his next fight against Carl Williams he was back to his best,he was at his best against Douglas too but got totally out boxed, his cave man gorilla type frame means he only can fight one way, simple as that, over rated really, even quick tills beat him in my opinion, when he was with Kevin Rooney..
@@paulanthony5274 mike tyson just stopped training and wasnt getting coached well after he lost his mentors, he outboxes anyone tbh since he was the best boxer of his time, although ali was the greatest mike is 2nd
Bruno hurt Tyson in that fight. I wish that clip was included. Firing Rooney was the beginning of the end. The Williams stoppage was early in my opinion.
@@lougaru2445 he certainly did hurt him. It was a shame for Bruno that the bell went to end the first round almost straight after he’d hurt him. Bruno was an awesome fighter at his peak, his problem was running out of gas and not holding on when he should have.
Buster Douglas performance was incredible. At the time I was 21, working as a labourer in Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Not the best of times! However, I will never forget the news coming across on the wireless. Buster Douglas has knocked out Mike Tyson. We couldn’t believe it. It was seismic, it really was. My father at the time said, “well we never thought Sonny Liston could be beat”, “guess what it can and will happen to anyone”. I still found it hard to believe. It’s interesting watching this video, Tyson simply didn’t look right against Buster Douglas. That being said, Buster was the first man to really take it to Tyson, and was the first man not to look scared. Buster would have beaten any fighter in history that night, he was that good. Thankfully I’m no longer working as a labourer, in Merthyr or anywhere else for that matter. Rummy thank you for this wonderful film. Really is of the highest quality. You deserve to be hired by one of the networks. Good one you.
Yeah sure, thats why they rate Buster so high in boxing history.Buster was a bum from hes first fight and all the way to hes last.Tyson wasnt ever even close to beat a great fighter.nut sure that match was exiting i agree on that.
Union Laborers in the states make a good wage and are generally very proud to do so. Joe Smith Jr. was a Union guy out of a Long Island local when he knocked Bernard Hopkins out of the ring in fact. I love hearing how the boxing news shock the world , cool insight from Wales. How is Joe Calzage viewed there? Cheers to you as you say on that side of the pond.
I was working not far, clearing Ten miles of woodland for the new Glyneath to Aberddulais bypass. Fight in Japan odds 50/1 Douglas Win, Douglas mother had just past away, fight in Japan, Douglas after a long count was unstoppable.
I hate the stupid myth and notion that Buster "was the first fighter to not be scared". Its just simply not true. Was Mitch Green scared? Was James Tillis scared? Was Steve Zouski scared? Jose Ribalta didn't look scared to me. I can name 10 more. It's simply a stupid claim to pretend that Tyson fought nothing but 30 something fighters were all scared. Pro fighters fight for a living, they aren't scared. Did Tyson beat a lot of guys psychologically before a punch was even thrown? Sure. But to suggest everyone he ever fought was just scared and that's why they all lost is disrespectful to the superhuman abilities of Mike Tyson, and also disrespectful to all the fighters who gave it 110% but came up short.
Goddamn how can I not love the public access vibe this channel gives me 😂. No legit it just reminds me of growing up in the 1980’s and early/mid 1990’s. Great stuff, so glad you’re doing this.
What an incredibly professional job at putting this piece together! I can't imagine what it took to research it all, not to mention find all the video components and then narrate it all. This could be featured on ANY of the major sports networks and not miss a beat. I was riveted for the entire nearly 77 minutes. Absolutely spectacular! Beyond impressed. Couldn't click "Subscribe" any faster after watching this. My hat is off to you, sir.
Even though I am also a Brooklynite like Mike, and having seen all of the greats from Clay/Ali and on, I can honestly say that NO ONE brought the fear into men like Mike Tyson did in his prime. At one point Foreman was close but Tyson had these grown men, tough, professional boxers in fear while in his prime and for some time thereafter. The example that really jumped out at the time was against Spinks, even the TV commentators talked about it as Spinks entered the ring. He was flat out scared of Tyson and made a quick exit like so many others. Buster Douglas beat Tyson when Mike had already shown some slipping up by firing Kevin Rooney and hiring some yes men. Douglas' mother had recently passed away and he was emotionally fired up while Tyson didn't take the fight seriously at all. He hardly even trained for that fight and it showed. Tyson had become too reliant on his power and had already begun walking into people to "beat them up". This would not have happened if he kept Rooney and the corner guys that had been with him since he was literally a kid. Once Tyson lost to Douglas it was the beginning of the end. Prison, Don King and the embarrassment of his marriage to Robin Givens destroyed a man that many people felt might be an undefeated heavyweight champ, like Rocky Marciano. Seeing clips of fights now does not really tell the story of Mike Tyson and just how truly dominating he was. Anything or anyone Don King touches gets destroyed. Once Tyson left Rooney he was never the same boxer/fighter. As the saying goes........."the worst thing in life is wasted talent".
And you saw what Ali did to Sonny Liston AND George Foreman, both powerful punchers. Frazier gave him a run for the money and he couldn't take out Norton, but he was by far the best all around fighter I ever saw. His fights were free to watch on Wide World of Sports, aired the Sunday after each one of them. I think Tyson made a mistake in not arranging something similar so we could all see how good he was. A fight between Ali at his best and Tyson at his would be a show for the ages, the best boxer ("float like a butterfly and sting like a bee") vs. the fastest and most powerful flatfooted puncher we've yet seen. Note how both of them were/are intelligent, well spoken men as well as superb athletes.
Danny Burch no way. If Tyson fights Evander Holyfield in his prime before all the bullshit. Tyson would have destroyed Holyfield just like all the rust. Holyfield got Tyson on the downswing and you know it. But what’s done is done. And I will say Tyson was pretty cheap and biting Holyfield because he couldn’t beat him and he was just getting Super pissed off that he couldn’t hurt him so he bit him. But like I say I think if Tyson gets Holyfield in Tysons prime Tyson destroys him. That’s only my opinion not trying to start any stupid arguments.
@@richardvacanti4265 You just knew that Holyfield was going to win when he came to the ring with his 'Jesus is lord' hat on! Subtle dig at the 'Neighbourhood Of Islam'.'
Thank you for the excellent work put into making this video. Facts, thoughtful analysis and no embellishments. Really a rich service to the boxing fans and community. Thank you.
This video brings back many memories. thank you Iron Man! We will never forget you! To the youngsters, he had us in awe back in the day his hits were fast and powerful. he could knock folks out with his left and right!
In this real prime, when he first became champion, nobody could beat Mike Tyson, not Evander, not Lennox Lewis, nobody and I truly believe that. I would have loved to have seen Tyson vs Holyfield in Tysons prime, before he started partying and before he went to jail. If nothing else, you have to admit that prime Mike Tyson is without a doubt in the top 5 best heavyweights of all time.
Count Yorga i have him top 10 and he is still my favorite. Too many what ifs. He lost it and then lossed in the ring. Don king Robin gives and the girl he allegedly raped ruined him. Cus dying and firing Rooney was the start of the end. Still a once in a life time type of fighter.
Garrett and whose fault is That? Tyson apologists kill me with all the excuses they give. Holyfield had been in WARS by that point. The 3 Bowe fights alone would change a fighter but then he also had the Foreman and Moore's fights at that point, not to mention his whole cruiserweight career. The fact is Holyfield was just a better overall fighter than Tyson and he had more heart and determination.
you would have seen the fight had he not been convicted of rape. Frankly, 90 % of his knock outs were against no name fighters or boxers well out of their prime.
Excellent video! Also I love how Mike utilized a less often used style of boxing, and dominated for a while with it. Using both orthodox and southpaw, definitely one of the most interesting fighters to watch.
Outstanding work as usual Rummy 👏 probably the best video to gauge the career of Tyson and his accomplishments. It's such a shame he was locked up for that period when the big names where making their way to the top 10, imagine how richer the heavyweight history woud have been if he remained uninterrupted...
Yep, I think if Cus lived 10 years longer or in an alternate reality Cus was born 10 years earlier, Tyson could have gone down as a top 3 fighter ever. Certainly a top 3 heavyweight ever. Maybe the best ever if he had Cus to reality check him and that leech King never got his paws on him. That likely leads to him never going to prison, staying devoted to his training, the Douglas loss never happens, Desoray Williams and her mother never steal him money so he retires at the top. The years he spent in prison are instead spent defending his belts and he retires in the mid 90’s undefeated. It’s crazy how one event in persons life can have a domino effect and completely change their future. I honestly don’t think anyone could have beat Tyson in his early 20’s if he stayed with Rooney and had Cus by his side. Prime for Prime the only guy I give a chance to is prime Ali. In his prime he had the movement and the iron chin to possibly pull off a decision against prime Tyson. As far as dream matchups from different era’s that’s the one I think would have been most interesting. Close second would be prime Tyson vs prime Liston but I think Mike’s speed would have been too much for Liston. Anyway, great career breakdown Rummy. Good to see Tyson doing better now, I just hope he stays out of the ring and doesn’t do some stupid cash grab fight against Jake Paul or something
