Dave Logan from University of Colorado was drafted in all 3 major league sports in 1975. He played many years for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos. He does play by play for the Broncos AND still coaches high school football (many state championships).
Also, he was drafted twice in MLB, first time by the White Sox I believe, but he chose not to sign with them. So he was drafted a total of 5 times. And then he debuted literally two weeks after the draft having never played a single minor league game.
Winfield was a classy guy. The Boss treated him like crap, and was suspended for it. During that time, Gene Michael ran the team. Michael built the dynasty and developed the Fab Four. He doesn’t get enough credit for that.
He played in NBA and Major League Baseball in the late 1950s. I'm not sure that Major League Baseball even had a draft in the 1950s. He said after earning $14,000 for a few week's work on a movie, he figured he could make a lot more money in the entertainment business then he could as an athlete.
you not only have to be good enough to be drafted in each sport, but they have to think they have a good chance to sign you. unless dave was drafted late in some sports. i ask myself which rounds was dave drafted in.
Jeter has the Winfield connection of Winfield being a Yankee indirectly created the dynasty of the 90s. George didn't like him, and some shady dealings later, he is suspended and this allows Gene Michael, Bob Watson and Cashman to be the three people building the roster. George wanted to trade Bernie, and when George wanted to trade Jeter, the example of Bernie kept him from doing it and giving the kid a shot. Without Dave Winfield angering Steinbrenner in some way, Derek Jeter may have ended up on the Mets because George got enamored with Bobby Bonilla or something.
