Layla was the soundtrack Goodfellas used when they were finding all the dead bodies following the Lufthansa heist. Jimmy was whacking just about everyone involved so they couldn't snitch if caught, but also to keep all the money! One was the fat guy he scolded for buying the pink Cadillac, another was found frozen in a meat truck etc.

I strongly recommend Key To The Highway from the same LP. The song was recorded live in the studio and if you close your eyes, it's easy to imagine Clapton as he stops playing his guitar, steps up to the mic to sing a line or two, then steps away to resume playing a few mesmerizing licks. Then to top it off, there's the superb slide guitar work of Duane Allman as both he and Clapton take turns playing lead throughout. Judging by the way Clapton is singing, it sounds like he's totally wasted on something. Just the same, the entire performance is absolutely phenomenal. An alternate recommendation is Have You Ever Loved A Woman, which was also recorded live in the studio. Legend has it that the producer, Tom Dowd, was in the bathroom while the band started playing this song and he came running into the control room frantically telling his associates to turn up the faders. To be honest, there isn't a bad song on this LP. My personal favorite is It's Too Late. Great reactions to great music. Keep up the good work.

The best friend was George Harrison of the Beatles. Clapton and Harrison stayed friends throughout the rest of Harrison's life, who died a few years ago. The woman was Patti Boyd. She and Clapton later divorced because Clapton couldn't stop doing drugs with her and fooling around on the road. Harrison created the concert for Bangladesh in New York and asked Clapton to play but Clapton wouldn't come unless Harrison could guarantee his supply of heroin for the trip, according to Clapton's autobiography.

@mikefetterman6782
@mikefetterman6782 2 года назад
Yes, she left George for Eric, I think George was tired of her drama, because he and Eric stayed best friends through the whole ordeal. George said she couldn't have left him for a better guy. I think he secretly knew what Clapton was in for.
@mikefetterman6782

George Harrison from the Beatles. George was very spiritual at the time and under the spell of a couple substances occasionally. Eric was hooked on heroin and Patti tried to help him through all of that. So yes it was the woman who has had more songs wrote about her than any other woman in music history. The model Patti Boyd.

So many great songs written about Patti, by both Eric and George Harrison. This is my all time favorite album. You should listen to this from beginning to end. It's a magical journey, especially when Duane Allman joined in two songs later and is on all the rest. Patti rejected him after hearing this and they didn't get together till years later. This was the second song on the album, Layla, next to last. Dee is correct.

You’ve got to announce that this band, this LP, isn’t just some band, even some really good band - this has the remarkable Bobby Whitlock on keyboards & astounding back-up vocals, the stunning Duane Allman on slide guitar, and up front on guitar & lead vocals & songwriting the incomparable Eric Clapton. ‘Tears In Heaven’ & ‘Wonderful Tonight’ are fine songs, but the real Clapton is found in Derek & The Dominoes, Cream, Blind Faith, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, etc. The story behind the love songs on this LP is; Beatle George Harrison and his wife were separating and, as Clapton was Harrison’s best friend, Eric was counseling Patty Boyd, Harrison’s estranged wife - they fell in love, Clapton did the ‘Layla’ LP, and they were married. The story is most captured in the cut ‘Have You Ever Loved A Woman’ - a scorching love song and one of the greatest Blues songs ever recorded.

This song brings back very fond memories of right after we moved from Ohio to Tennessee. It brings back memories of youth and teen years in the 70s. What a simpler time that was. Layla is a great song, which I love, but this song means so much more despite the meanig of the song. The early 70s was a great time for music.

Keep in mind that Claptons "best friend " is the Beatles George Harrison. Clapton was in love with her for a long time. A unrequited love, until Patti and George divorced. Clapton then actively perused Patti. Eventually they married. And eventually divorced. But Clapton and George always remaind lifelong friends, until George's death

Every song on this album expresses Eric's tortured love and desire to be with Pattie Boyd Harrison, wife of then Beatle George Harrison, who was also one of Eric's best friends. Eric and George were very close until the day George died in 2001. Eric and Pattie did marry in the mid 70s, but it didn't last very long.
