Absolutely correct, a masterpiece. Why does love have to be so sad and Anyday alone are 2 of the greatest songs of all. Include Layla and Bell Bottom blues and its a Masterpiece of all Masterpieces. There are few albums where there are NO throwaway tracks. This is one of them!

Clapton is an artist who can really capture his emotions in his performances. The notes played and how he plays them. One that will always haunt me and still brings tears to my eyes is "Tears in Heaven". He wrote it for his 4 year old son Conor, who tragically died in a fall from a 53rd story window of a NY City apartment.
There's one thing I appreciate about some of the reaction channels. It makes me realize I heard many songs during the 70s and 80s but I never really listened to them. There's a big difference between casual listening and internalized listening. For the first time I listened to this song in all of it's pathos. Eric Clapton and his band bring out that indescribable "it" factor. To me this song encapsulates the dark side of an entire decade known as "the 70".
You're one of the only reactor's who get's that it's not all Pink Floyd, SRV, Led Zeppelin..Yadda, Yadda, etc., etc.......This is my stuff you're getting into now...Thanks, for coloring outside the lines!
@@christinerobinson548 If all that is ever suggested, (as in the ones that I mentioned, and in many cases it IS all) the whole reaction thing becomes a bore. The reactor can then take it upon him/herself to delve further in, as this gentleman has...We do possess a brain, that affords us the ability to think for ourselves..There are no rules here, as far as I know...Therefore, the bands mentioned above SHOULD only act as a springboard to dive deeper into the genre..Otherwise, what's the point?
Eric Clapton and Duane Allllman were Masters of Emotional Guitar Phrasing, never in hurry, always slowing their Feelings to Flow through their Fingers, straight from their Souls!
I really, really like your reaction to this classic that I too put in its own category; one of those transcendant masterpieces that are destined to be listened to til the end of time, because they resonate with so many people.
His compositions are a big-deal, too. THORN TREE IN THE GARDEN... Doesn't everything think that's about a lost girlfriend? Well, listtening to Bobby on his Sunday night gig in Austin, we learn it's about a favorite dog he asked a friend to keep for him. The jackass gave the dog away instead! "Walking the streets alone - it's my fault."
Dude, I know exactly how you feel. I still remember the first time I heard this - more than forty years ago. Clapton just had a straight line from his heart to his fingers.
During the period, which was shortly after Eric's departure from Cream, he had a long affair with Patti Boyd, the wife of George Harrison. When she went back to George, Eric climbed out of his depression to do this album in 1970. Most of the songs, more specifically "Layla", were directed toward her in an effort to win her back. Robin Thicke most recently did the same thing, meaning he wrote an entire album dedicated to his wife in an effort to win her back. In Robin's case it failed, in Eric's case only initially. Eric then fell into a spiral of drugs and alcohol which took him years to climb out of. She later then left George and she and Eric were married in 1979. Eric however still took many years after the marriage to get straight. With every song on the album you can feel his need and emotion. The chorus on this song is a little Lennon and McCartney like, but it is all blues/rock. Nevertheless, even when Eric came out of the other end of the spiral, one which would have left him dead, it took him many years to finally return to this album and do these songs in public. By the way, Duane and Eric made Derek. The bassist was Carl Radle, the drummer was Jim Gordon (who later went insane and murdered his mother), the writer and player of the piano part in "Layla", and the pianist and co-vocalist was Bobby Whitlock.
Also it is great to understand how this band came about. Clapton left CREAM(listen to Badge) and started BLIND FAITH(Can't Find My Way Home). He wasn't particularly too happy and began hanging out more with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. From there he and some of those band members worked with George Harrison on ALL THINGS MUST PASS(My Sweet Lord), they were also the foundation for DEREK and the DOMINOES(Layla, Little Wing) and CLAPTON'S band on his first solo album(Let It Rain). And from CREAM to CLAPTON'S first SOLO ALBUM and everything in between was less than two years. Not to mention the solo on WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS by The Beatles.
That was always one of my favorites by Clapton. Yeah, expressive guitar. Nice nice reaction. Good heartfelt reaction in authentic way. Thanks for posting this one.
P.S. Loved your reaction; haven't seen this anywhere else being reacted to tho I have asked. Sorry this is so late after posting but it's so beautiful and had the same effect on me and I was like, 13 at the time. Thank you. Locked down love, peace, music and wellness from East Coast of England. You are bang on with how it makes you feel. he is begging her not to leave him. She did anyway.
It is an amazingly beautiful song and I remember when I first heard it in 1970, just like d man here, that guitar solo blew me away. The emotion in it is so incredible. Eric and Duane together was a very rare combination of two supremely gifted artists at the height of their powers. Epic video too, I love this guy and his reactions! The transcendental power of music to bring people together.
Do I get blown away on the song you said the Beatles actually it's George Harrison solo album and it's the same band from Derek and the Dominos backing up that whole album except for Duane Allman on that album All Things Must Pass
Tremendous passion on this album, one of the best of all time. Also try "Have You ever Loved A Woman", "Nobody Loves You When you're Down & Out" and almost any other song on this double album
I so appreciate that you listened all the way thru before reacting, instead of talking thru this awesome song or stopping/starting several times....I feel this way every single time I hear this song ♥️
I'm sure others have pointed this out, but the Beatles' song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was an uncredited Clapton appearance on the lead guitar fills and solos. He certainly can make emotions happen with a guitar.
It’s magnificence and beauty and excellence in musicianship and composition.. I feel so lucky to have been able to grow up while some of the greatest music ever written was being done! Excellent reaction my man.. perfect 🎼✌️❤️👊
I'll always nominate this album as the quintessential guitar album. Bobby Whitlock on keyboards and other guitars, and doing the raspy backing vocals, along with several compositions. It's truly a band's album although many folks list two names. I hope you'll work your way thru the whole album - maybe not in REACTION videos but it's a wonderful album to spend a week with.
Song was written about his best friends wife, Patti Boyd "George Harrison", another one about Patti was "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" The band consisted of members of Delaney, Bonnie and Friends that included at the time part time players Duane Allman Eric Clapton, George Harrison and regular members Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, Leon Russel, Rita Cooledge, Bobby Keys and Jim Gordon who also made up the core band on Joe Cockers Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Top five influential Albums of all time. Great Front to back. Great example of this is the recent historic set by The Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring Trey Anastacio of Phish and Doyle Bramhall II playing the whole album on their second set at Lockn Fest. Check it out it's a real treat.
I'd say you had EXACTLY the words bruh. That guitar sounded like tears! Totally! Clapton was in love with his best friends wife. THAT is how you play that way. Emotion...pure emotion. You are the best at this. You get music. The BIGGER picture. Thanks for letting listen with you
I love this song, so much angst and it's from the heart. Clapton fell in love with his best friend's (George Harrison) wife Pattie and wrote 'Layla' for her. The Derek & the Dominoes sole album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" refers to his trying to woo her. He stole the band from Delaney and Bonnie after touring with them. Sadly they only made that one album, halfway through their 2nd Clapton got too paranoid on heroin to leave his house. That entire album is worth listening to.
@@jamfamily4287 George Harrison was OK with it. He was a bit of a player himself. He said that if it was going to be anyone, he was glad it was his friend Eric.
Eric didn't exactly "steal" the band from Delaney and Bonnie, they were all ready to bale out from that train wreck! They had a very tumultuous history and a revolving door of players in their band, including, among others, Eric himself, Gregg and Duane Allman, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, Chris Stainton, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Keys, Jim Price, Jim Keltner, hell everybody went through there! The list is long! If you look back at those players, there's the nucleus for Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" band too! Truly a sad deal, because they were supremely talented!
My favorite song from my favorite Clapton album, thank you for this. Having said that, I would enjoy even more to see you react to "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" from the same album. Maybe the most emotional song I've ever heard. Keep it up, loving your journey.
Much love right back at you young brother. You've gone deep into real music and for that I commend you. This is an education in your journey through life and one that will enrich you. God Bless.
Eric Clapton & Duane Allman were two of the premier guitarists of the time. You can't go wrong with Eric Clapton or The Allman Brothers. This is what I grow up listening to. You are right, most of their music comes from their hearts.
Just stumbled upon this channel and your reactions are so real and you seems to feel exactly what I do when listing to these songs. Immediate sub and bell notes turned on man!
Good choice young man! Do you want to see me crawl the floor back to you! What a great line. This song gets me everytime and I have heard it all my life.
Thanks JamFam.. haven't heard that for many a year..you got it spot on with the guitar... a song that always hits your soul. yep a timeless classic ( You can like this and Yes.. play to suit your mood. )
"Thorn Tree in the Garden" from the same Derek & the Dominos album -acoustic, heartbreaking -I promise you will not be disappointed. Loving your reactions!
Pattie Boyd was the inspiration for most of the songs on this album (Claptons Girlfriend) So was 'Wonderful Tonight' George Harrison wrote 'Something' about her
It’s awesome to be able to see such a powerful song impact someone like this. Eric has such an amazing songbook to choose from, started in the 50’s and he’s still putting music out today. To hear some absolutely astounding playing listen to five long years off of his From the Cradle album. The best solo from the best guitarist.
There's a reason Clapton was called God and he considered Duane to be the better guitarist!! You're right...The raw emotion and passion that comes through those guitar strings really can't be expressed in words. Great review!
Great reaction. Yes is like an incredibly tasty seven-layer dip, served with spicy corn chips, and this song by Derek and the Dominoes is like the freshly brewed, sweet iced tea you wash the other songs down with.
Love this song and this reaction... BTW: Doug Kercher Steve:, as a sinner you’re one confession away from rejoining the Church. You ara still Catholic. Come back to the Church created by Jesus and traced back to Apostles... Pure emotion bleeds on this track and it does a lot to dismiss the racial tack so many tall into...
When music had poetry......it is written that the band was coming up having trouble putting the album together when Duane Allman came in and saved it. Eric Clapton after playing with Duane Allman said I found my musical brother....
Clapton has said he used the Fender Champ 20 (a SMALL amp) for this album. It was pricey then, but still cheap by those standards. Today, it's usually $90-110.
The champs today are solid state, a real tube champ like the one he played on this album is gonna run you around $2000. Or you can get a blues jr which is essentially the modern day equivalent for 500-600
Carl Radle on bass, Jamie Oldeker on drums, Bobby Whitlock on keys and background vocals, Dwayne Alman on guitar and Eric Clapton on guitar and lead vocals. Best album of Clapton's career.
He learned that from Robert Johnson the man who gave rock N roll it's start thru the Delta Blues Listen to Robert Johnson king of the delta blues and you will hear the beginnings of rock. Now these recordings are from 1936-37 he only recorded about an album worth of material. The sounds he made.... the haunting voice and you can feel the delta. Eric Clapton says he was the greatest blues/folk guitarist singer
Personally, I preferred Clapton in the Cream and Blind Faith era, but then I'm oooooold 😁 even saw Cream in their farewell tour in L.A.. Ginger Baker was drumming so fast, thought he might stroke out, right there on stage. 🤔
