Although he got the candle wrong, somebody has already noted that Derren places emphasis on the word 'role', sounding like 'roll' - something cylindrical. Also, he mentions temperature and repeats the word 'can', suggesting 'candle'. He also reinforces the subject's suggestion that it's smooth. Still amazing though, just shows that he's influencing the amputee to choose certain words.
If it is just trickery it might have something to do with the cross-wiring of sensory cortex. In amputees the face becomes cross-wired with the hand. Touching an amputees face gives them sensation in their phantom limb. My guess is this plays on the ability of unconscious intuition. Subcortical nuclei. The representations are elusive by nature. In other words, he may have intuitively known what it was through other senses and tricked to thinking it was his hand feeling it.
Simple. He use sublimal suggestions in his sentences in his words. He already said 'something cool and hard...' after he place the cup. He already hypnotised the amputee before the show.
Another thing he may have done is hypnotize him before hand and given him buzz words so that his subconscious would pick up on what he said and what it would represent. He puts him back into that relaxed trance state by first talking with him building report and then having him close his eyes and such. This is my guess. There was probubly hypnotic prep work. The second one he was very close on and the subconscious didnt fully pick up the buzz words.
@@person44222 I think that the phantom is an energy field (the biofield) and it can transmit information to the person. Like the sense of personal space, the aura. A bit woo-woo, but still real, IMO.
@ABlackbirdOnline I agree with what ur saying... however those suggestions are too vague... however i can see this being acheived only if derren brown can manipulate the energy feild of other people... for example by drawing it out he influenced that mans energy feild to be recreated at tha place of the arm... which is amazing...
