Try to keep the gondola as short as possible, so it does not swing as much (around the z-axis). The torque of the motor will rotate the gondola in turns, at the end of the turn, it will swing back, creating a pendulum motion, which will obviously look horrible on the video footage. From my experience, the longer the gondola is, the more likely it is for it to swing. Also a shorter gondola will recover faster from this pendulum motion to a stable flight. So far, I really like your design and the idea of a paradrone. Keep it up!

Thanks for the tip! So if I understand it correctly, you are not referring to the torque introduced by the motor/propeller combination along the roll axis but a pendulum effect along it's pitch axis caused by the constantly changing thrust? The camera will be mounted on a gimbal so for the video it shouldn't be too much of an issue but we still want the platform itself to be as stable as possible!

@@StefsEngineering Yes, you understood it correctly, I just did not find the right words.

No problem, it was clear enough right? I may talk a bit about this in one of the next video's on the subject, the problem with these paramotors is that every single shape has its drawbacks (long/short body, high/low center of gravity, high/low riser points, mass centeralized or spread out and while you make these decisions the function has to be kept in mind. In my instance that is autonomous flight and making video's.

Hello Stef, very nice video (and beautiful editing from your hand)! Interesting to see what is possible with good design and 3d-printing. With this design it might be a small step to designing an autogyro, which is gaining popularity rapidly. Also in the 'real' world.

Ey thanks for the message! This sure was an interesting experiment, I liked it so I will definately make more video's in this series I think I will continue calling it "design talk" I got a couple subjects lined up, for example: - I got another nice idea yesterday for the landinggear so I'd like to share that and compare - How I designed the 3D printer lights - The idea behind the din rail storage for tools I'm working on at the moment And so on. Oh before I forget, I like your autogyro idea! It does look like a solid base for such an aircraft

Were you able to fly it at the end?

Hi Stef did this project completed? Did you got a chance to fly?

Not yet unfortunately but plan to continue the build in the next couple weeks! I did make some significant progress though since my last video so in the next one I will explain what I did the the past months

Hi, Stef! Any updates on this project?

Looks cool. Where are the wings? And also what is the aim for this design? RC? Or prototype for something larger?
@StefsEngineering
@StefsEngineering 6 лет назад
Thanks! Well the wing is a paraglider I bought for it (5.2m2 from Opale), this thing will hang below it. A couple of pictures: c1.staticflickr.com/5/4759/27871337499_a007d47611_h.jpg c1.staticflickr.com/5/4695/38940365824_260b18f9b3_h.jpg The aim for the design is getting a paramotor to perform an autonomous flight, this first phase of the build is just making the platform that I want to use for those flights. When this model has had it's maiden flight (piloted by me) the next step will be to modify the flightcontroller software for a paramotor. So it's a bit of all, a RC prototype for a new large scale "drone". Drone's exist, and so do paramotors but the combination hasn't been done as far as I know.
