I will be interested to see how the magnets the effector in place. This could be very handy for quick tool changes in the middle of a print.

Thank you, i'm happy with it as well! I will start the build once I'm done with my current massive engineering job. That one will be shared once it has been handed over to the customer and recordings/pictures are published. Your video is really interesting, but why would you use two piece for the effector (especially the part that contains the balls end ?) Doesn't it weakened the entire assembly ?

Thanks! Well I considered building the endeffector all aluminium (actually made the first and second version like that) and in a "hybrid" form, as you can see in this video. There are several advantages for the carbon/aluminium version, first, it makes it easy to switch between hotend types and configurations (normal/volcano, single/double) . So if I want to replace an aircooled one with a watercooled version, it is possible without replacing the entire endeffector. Another important thing is that I can upgrade the endeffector to a direct drive setup in the future. I have a couple of nice designs for a lightweight extruder and this endeffector design can accommodate that. Allthough it is made out of a lot more parts, each one is easier to make. If I'd make this whole assembly as one part it would mean the milling would be a lot more complicated and I'm not confident my machine is up to that task. With good adhesive between the carbonfiber and aluminium I am not really worried about the strength and it coming apart. And finally: I have a really nice selection of high quality carbon fiber sheets that I really look forward to use in a project. I hope that explains it

Seems like a lot of extra weight in the arms. Why is a magnet so much better anyhow?

Well the idea is that you eliminate slop in the joints without introducing a significant amount of friction caused by the spring that is pulling the 2 arms on each axis together. Aside from that: it looks cooler but the first given reasons where the primary in the decision.

Not yet, but as soon as I have final versions I definately will. I don't want to bother my viewers with models that may need some changes. Thanks for watching though! I am back on this project and expect to do an update soon.

Well it faded a bit into the background due to the other projects I was working on and I moved to a new home a couple months ago and it required quite a bit of time and effort to get it ready. I will get back to it in the next couple weeks I think. It's about time right?
