Home invader suspects chose the "wrong home" after encountering armed veteran homeowner

In Clayton County, a veteran says he wanted to make sure his wife was protected after video surveillance caught suspects attempting to break into his vehicle in the driveway. The surveillance video captured the homeowner run out of his home with flip flops, pajama pants, no shirt, and a rifle to get the armed suspects away.

Well i see what they were saying.....they weren't trying to get into his home......He still has the right to defend his property, but i could see calling him stupid to run out, risk his life, for someone taking something from his car. Don't get me wrong, I would have been right there with him, but that still doesn't mean its the smart thing to do. He could have taken a stray round to the dome and his wife and kids would be without.........Was he brave? Yes. Was it stupid? Yes.......but that's pretty much what every Medal of Honor recipients citation says as well.

What is really the point here is that he put his life on the line to try to prevent his car from getting a broken window, blew out all the windows, didn't get a single shot on target, ran out of rounds and went back inside where he could have stayed from the beginning, swapped for a different gun, lost his target, then wandered into the yard blind when they could have easily picked him off. Exactly. What does defending you get you? A shot up car, future retaliation by thugs...or if that guy had been hit he probably would have sued the home owner. Look to the Bodega owner in New York who stabbed the customer who was intimidating him behind the counter-now he's afraid of gang retaliation (the guy he killed was in a gang) and he's afraid for his life now. It doesn't pay to defend yourself with lethal force because if you are dealing with criminals, they don't give a rats about your life or anyone else's.

Reason why it's stupid the way he did it is because if he actually shot the suspect he would have actually gotten in trouble. According to the law he wasn't physically being harmed and his life wasn't in danger. I know someone in prison now for something similar to this. That means the majority of people that have guns stolen out of their cars didn't even bother to lock them. Nah, this was pretty stupid…..he was more secure in the home if it was about protecting his family.. He had the option to call the police. Flanking the criminal outside in flip flops was a messy way of protecting property, and he was unsuccessful. These thugs belong in jail, but as long as our criminal system sends them back on the streets 5 minutes after they get arrested, people need to be ready to defend themselves.

Man, look, you ever shoot a kid (or a man)? Watch him bleed out? you perform CPR on a dude who just tried to kill you as he pukes his last meal and blood all over you? I'm thinking not. 19 year old boy, graduated the prior sunmer. Gone, and for what, a drunken night and a stupid kid monent. Not to much unlike these guys. Granted these men were armed for urban combat and didn't hesitate to open up on this man. At that point they become combatants and it's open season. But to WANT to see someone shot or "get what they deserve" is altogether another story. And trust me when I say it's one you honestly don't want to have front row tickets too. I know its easy to arm chair it and make comments like that, I used to, but to have to be the one to do it is completely another situation. I'm all for seeing some justice served, but no one should pay with their lives when it comes to any type of material possession. I have some serious respect for that homeowner tho. He left himself too open when he approached..I’m glad nothing happened to any of the neighbors. Once people start retaliating against these degenerates and they start dropping like flies. I bet you they start leaving peoples properties alone.
