I mean who else could he possobly say? He's never faced Levan, Vitaly was a while back before he got huge, he could say Pushkar had a stronger hit or maybe mention Cadorette's press but overall it's Denis all the way strength-wise
I think a lot of people only know of Devon's match against John Brzenk in 2008. But you can't forget that John Brzenk literally has beaten Devon Larratt 6 other times, before and after 2008.
@@engr.h.mbasirijaz1249 are you seriously making excuses for Devon Larratt? There is no need for that. I could also do excuses for John Brzenk's match in 2008, as his wrist was banged up, and he was 10/15 years out of his prime.
@@engr.h.mbasirijaz1249 Dont be one of those blind fanbois who make excuses everytime their guy loses. If you agree to pull then thats it. What excuse can you make for Larratt never pulling in Zloty ;) ?
I like how Devon speaks of Denis Cyplenkov, Cyplenkov is a down to the earth dude, he is one of the strongest yet he is very humble and a real sportsman.
I met Denis Cyplenkov once at the FIBO in Cologne. You could "armwrestle" against him (just for fun & show) to feel how strong he was. Ofcourse I tried it, I think he was not even at 10% lolz. It was like pushing against a concrete wall not a single movement and his hands where just incredibly huge. I got pretty big hands, not much people that I meet have larger hands than me. My dad has slightly bigger hands al his fingers are thick (strongmen) but Dennis was just from another world, I could almost wrap my hand around his thumb haha insane. He was so nice and gentle though...awesome experience.
Love seeing the respect arm wrestling is getting from the strongman community... great interview, Laurence. Loved seeing Devon's appearances with Larry Wheels too.
Always LOVE hearing Devon talk about his experience with Denis! Denis was so strong, but also highly skilled at the sport when he faced Devon. I think it's because he's so calm and smart. Not just a regular strong dude.
Great segment, Loz. You have a way of bring out the best of people you interview. As others have said, off the table Devon is an ambassador of the sport and has the utmost respect for those you participate. He's like a less humble Brian Shaw. On the table he morphs into Oberst, but it's a big mind game out there. Keep it up! Enjoying all your content, Strongman or otherwise.
I tend to agree with devon, Laletin will be the world champion eventually. That 6'9 frame can still be filled out considerably. He's 150 kilos and still he doesn't even look overly jacked
The problem with being that tall though, is that gaining weight becomes a massive problem. The amount of calories and the amount of times per day he would have to eat to simply keep it up there, is much more difficult than for someone such as Cyplenkov's height. And Cyplenkov is already 1,86, which already requires a pretty insane amount of food to keep his weight. That's why most bodybuilders are smaller dudes, much easier to fill your frame.
something like 35 years ago, Sports Illustrated had a big cover story on the best at that time (for his weight class): Allen Fisher. He's easily the GOAT among the lightweights, huge hands, genetically gifted with wiry strength, and he was the first to create weight contraptions specific for arm wrestling.
I don’t agree that Brzenk was only in his weight class...Brzenk beat Denis 2 years in a row at Nemiroff although it was a young Denis. Countless other heavyweights in the open class.
You are very mistaken. Brzenk only won twice vs Denis and that was while Denis was still a complete newbie. Then Denis started grasping the basics and beat Brzenk twice in the following couple of years and that was that.
@@nvmffs You’re correct my mistake. I was just looking the other day and Brzenk won Nemiroff 4 years in a row right handed open class. He didn’t face Denis in 2006-2007. I did say it was a young Denis lol. Regardless Denis still had thighceps LOL
The 2000's were a great period for Brzenk. He won 11 Zloty titles which was a record until I believe only Pushkar beat with 12. Lots of great tournaments out there, but I give a lot of credence to title wins at Zloty/Nemiroff. I wish Devon had competed there. It's hard to believe a puller of his caliber has no Zloty wins
Denis was stonewalling everyone around that time tho and beating them like they weren't there until he met Brzenk. I gotta say brzenk was actually that good because it's only when john had a shoulder operation he lost to denis in 2010. Prime brzenk was an almost impossible man to beat. Hand and wrist of steel.
I think in the near future, an American puller who will make a big impact is Eric Spotto. If your interested Devon's channel has some footage of him...just incredible power
Devon Larratt: the face of arm wrestling. Better yet: Larratt is the arm 💪🏼to look up to in the sport. He's got strength, skills, techniques and an unequaled charisma. Thanks to him the sport has gained so much notoriety worldwide 🌐
The way he talks about Dennis shows that the best Dennis, Dennis in his best form, is untouchable… no surprise for me… love both guys (Dennis and Devon)
New to the sport here. I’m from Vancouver, BC Canada. Therefore I’m a huge Devon fan. Mostly cuz he’s Canadian, but also because he’s such a genuine, endearing and well spoken dude. Fantastic ambassador for the spor🇨🇦😝🤘🏻
Larratt has grown so much into the sport and is potentially if not hands down the most influential person in Arm Wrestling in the current age and to come as he ages and switches over to hopefully get into more of the production/promotional side when he decides to hang it up competitively.
Denis said if there will be event he invited to, he will get that shape for 6 months. Also he said *with smile* many are overestimating the muscle size role for one's strength.
Here's an idea, ask a bunch of armwrestlers such as Devon, Todd, Chaffee, Caddorrette and many more what it felt like gripping up with John Brzenk for the first time ever, it would ve really interesting to hear what they say, i can only imagine how strong his hand must have felt?
@@seanmartin2185 Denis has a better record actually ever since he learned the technical aspect of the sport he beat Brzenk twice and went on to destroy every household name in AR
What I like about Devon is how he alway learns from his defeats and comes back stronger. I wouldn't be surprised if he beats Levan one day. It's his biggest challenge, but he has the technique and determination.
John is the GOAT, but he's naturally a quiet mild mannered guy. I think he's uncomfortable with his own celebrity within the sport. Devon is like a promoter and the best ambassador the sport has. He's a great talker and is not shy to go on ESPN if it will help to promote the sport. If the sport ever reaches the popularity it has in Eastern Europe it will be in large part to Devon
Much respect for Devon and his comments on Brzenk are 100% complimentary, but I don't think John ever avoided anyone. Part of his legend is that he would regularly beat guys who were bigger than him. I mean he beat Bagent, Larratt, Cyplenkov and Pushkar, but I don't think he ever beat them when THEY were at their absolute prime. I would have liked John to have gotten another crack at Voevoda, but Alexey left the sport. I don't think John was 100% when he faced Larratt in 2008. Just my opinion. He could not handle Cleve Dean or Gary Goodridge when they were both at their best. Sometimes the GOAT could not overcome the size differential in the same way the greatest middleweight boxer could not beat a top of the food chain heavyweight. Overall though, Devon is correct. For decades, John was either #1 in the world, or #1 at his weight.
Yeah might be a little just a small smudge of biased/resentment there though through all the bs and antics its clear Devon respects and admires john a lot and vice versa by the way John does to him as well heck I probly heard John say nicer things to Devon then vice versa even though he keeps it short and sweet his thoughts/compliments compared to Devon at times who seems to always have a compliment with a "buttttt" attached lol...but yeah I mean come-on does anyone have an overall better resume then Brzenk? very doubtful I mean the man literally has wins over pretty much everyone small med elite and fellow few legends alike he avenged his first defeat from 2004 next year if I'm not mistaken I'm also fairly new to the sport against that Alexey dude, he beat Devon what was it in 1999 then 2004 and 2015 right? but then lost to him in like 2008 and 2021 though the fact John can even hang still in his friking late 40s/mid/late 50s is astonishing, John beat a sure pre prime Dennis sure but shit again was still a what 44 year old John beating a what 30 ish year old Dennis ya know so yeah Johns resume cannot be questioned period let alone the fact he routinely dominated his own weight classes as well as faced the super heavy's way way bigger then him routinely.....hell hes like the Michael Moore of arm wrestling but with George Foreman's or Bernard Hopkins longevity!.
I think your right about John not beating like Dennis and few of them in there peak primes, but at the same time I think that can be negated a bit by the fact that that goes both ways, so I think t evens out really in the end so John Berzenk being significantly older then dennis with some injuries and etc against a pre prime but much younger and fresher Dennis so I think that overall on a prime for prime scale sort of evens it out a bit ya know but maybe not jus ta thought, regardless these dudes are just amazing and I love John.
Yeah he beat Lupkes at armwars in las vegas. Schoolboy is not on Devon's level yet. Allthough schoolboy is slowly turning in schoolbus, so who knows what will happen in the future
Absotluey but you gotta think Denis and John were pretty close right handed but John would never stand a chance beating Denis left handed at any point in his career in my opinion
Definitely coming up and someone to watch out for in the future. However his video compilations make him look better than he actually is because he faces a ton of amateurs. Not saying he isn’t a threat, but the several times he faced Devon, it’s almost like Devon was just toying with him..
Denis is definitely one of the strongest guys he's faced but I've NEVER seen Denis beat John Brzenk of all the times I've seen them arm wrestle? What am I Missing?
Once at a club we wanted to arm wrestle and the bouncers told us they will kick us out if we do and we just thought like we arent fighting each other ffs.
