You almost perfectly described how I feel about playing it now. After you unlock a skill, that skill isn't going to change for the rest of the game until you get to late game. It's unbearably repetitive combat and a slog to get around the map. I honestly wish I could refund, but maybe things will change in the future and I can come back to it

Wow, finally someone that shows how anti consumer blizzard is. How greedy they are. For how much content they put in this game the price is too much, the batlepass is a joke and the fact you cant resell your phisical copy is a punch in the guts. Sad, the game looks good and the combat as well, but meh. Not worth it in the end

100%, i only played a few hours, but i already feel bored and the bummer is that i feel, as you said, i am degressing instead of progressing because of the fkng level scaling. wtf, how can you do that, it sooo stupid. Blizzard realy has no clue what made D2 so awesome.

I'm in the process of trying to get my money back for this game. For me the game is just a massive disappointment.

Your review is spot-on. I was getting more and more frustrated with every log-in, playing shorter and shorter sessions, until in the end, somewhere along the endless bar of level 83, I uninstalled the game. I tried my best to find carrots to chase, keep myself busy, maybe shoot for level 100. But I feel exhausted. Having my time wasted by design is something I can't accept. Running between points of interest in town, riding the lame horse to every single nightmare dungeon, and on top of all - freaking backtracking inside the dungeon! Are. You. Kidding. Me. I've been using the same build since level 10. The skill twig is not only small, but cumbersome to respec. Pair that with rng-farming for the new gear against ever more powerful mobs... ah, why even bother respeccing. I am certain they are staggering content. They have been doing that in D3 even. Would be OK if they only portioned out the inevitable power creep, not the quality of life. Teleporting to a nightmare dungeon shouldn't even be a topic of discussion. Or non-diminishing crowd control effects. Or damage from off screen. Or stash space. All of these and many more have been addressed over the years, why do we have to repeat the same basic stuff? So that new players, down the line, feel like the game is getting better? Where it should've been good from the very beginning. Season 1 won't fix all this mess. My hope is that within a year, most of the intentional omissions will have been covered, and the solo experience will be more rewarding.

Respect for this review... My friends were trying to get me to buy this with them but i could just tell it wasnt gonna live up to the hype for basically all the reasons you confirmed. It looks repetitive without much variety.... And after playing for only 3 days my friend is already talking about other games lol...

The scaling bosses ruins the game for me. The campaign is so boring because everytime i hit a boss i have to look up an S tier build guide to beat them because my current build does 0 dmg because the boss scales with me. Reading a guide for the main story line just ruins the entire fun for me. At this point i am requesting a refund and just going to watch the cut scenes on youtube to see how the story goes. The gameplay is just not fun for me.

This is exactly and 100% my impression. Playing the campaign feels like a chore. It SO BORING! I just hope it gets better in the lategame but from what I have seen in streams I have little hope to be frank. However from talking to friends, it seems that I am in the absolute minority. Most are absolutely digging the collectible crap, they dont mind fighting the same boss a quarter billion times as long as they get shiny things in the end. I am so glad I didn't buy the premium version because I am not sure I will play this shitshow of a game for much more than a week. Edit: Right after writing this, the first thing I hear when I pick up the campaign again is "locked, I must find another way inside". For the billionth time! What were the developers even thinking???

The level scaling is the dumbest crap I've ever seen in my life. It literally makes me not want to level up, makes me not want to play the game. I have zero desire to play a new character and play through the story another time. The game was designed to be on mobile in 2 years. I'd give it a 0/10 if I could, but its probably a 3/10. 1 point for the smooth graphics, 1 point for the storyline, and 1 point for Vigo. It's almost impossible to mess up with the classic light vs darkness, angels vs demons storytelling, but from the annoying screechy violin music to the skill system built for a controller they absolutely lost all scripts and templates from any original Diablo inspiration. They repackaged Diablo 3 with even worse item stats. Who the hell likes reading +2.56 damage to enemies from a distance, +12% damage to vulnerable enemies while stunned while burning while lucky hit crits while in a bubble while barriered while injured + 10% overpower damage while frozen collecting cackling energy while fortify is active while under the effects of a KFC burger like DUDE

Aha, a critical review. What I find most interesting is how difficult it was to find this video. YT is flooded with D4 praise and borderline shilling, which is always a bad sign since nothing is perfect. Thanks for saving myself (and likely others) from the $70 experiment.

First time viewer here... This is probably the most accurate review about the game I've seen. I played the beta, server slam, early access. Finished the campaign Monday and have been checking out the "endgame" since then. All of your points are 100% accurate and valid in my opinion. I don't see myself even getting to max lvl, even as close as I am on one character. I played on console (Series X) and the UI is just as awful and the clunky/slow feeling is the same. Keep up the honest work we appreciate it.

This is why I don’t pre order many games anymore.. it’s just better to see how it goes. Can’t even fully trust mainstream game reviews nowadays.

I only played the beta, which I mildly enjoyed. It just felt like another game I've already played. With a price of 90$, battlepasses and two DLC's incoming, it just doesn't seem to be worth the price for me.

Best way to describe this game is its the laziest way to drag out a game... i wanted to like it but after 60 hours i just got board off..

I’m glad I’m not the only one, I got bored of d4 really fast but there are loads of streamers and reviews praising it. It’s a good wake up call when you see your favourite streamer who you thought had principles and was genuine being a complete sell out.

I think alot of people in this comment section are missing the fact that with tax this game is 75 dollars. The gameplay doesnt look too impressive to me just watered down Lost Ark. But the difference is Lost Ark is free while this game is 75 dollars.

I played Diablo 1 , Diablo 2, Diablo 3 and now Diablo 4. That means I played diablo since some of you hadn't born yet. And this Diablo sucks, Blizzard fucked up since Chinese own them. - Paid 108$ for the highest package because I love the brand and series but this game couldn't keep me stay after 40 mins playing. So disappointed !!! 1. They made the same mistake as diablo 3, they removed custom stats. Diablo 2 is one of the best version in series because player can build their character by following many ways. Some people like str, some like dex etc... That make the game replay able. That's why the last version of diablo 2 release last year and still pretty damn hot. 2. This is 2023 and no one want to play an open world game from the sky vision with mouse click. 3. Boss fighting sucks, totally failed. They had completely successed at D3 with boss fighting extremly hard. But is game is suck. 4. Main quest is diluted because of the side quests. 5. The story also sucks because you don't know what are you fighting for. Everything is about a demon bitch run around killing people to save a place where she and her ex created before. And she calls people who she killed is her children ??? WTF ??? Who wrote this story? WTF wrong with his mind? 6. You design an open world game but you dont let people select the side they want to fight for, too many side quest, too many story lead player to " Demon bitch is not a bad person, she did it because she want to save the world". So why do you bound players into 1 storyline. 7. This is just a upgrade patch of diablo 3 and nothing is new. Boring game, unbalance, suck story, and dumb camera view.

100%. World scaling and repetitive mobs/events/bosses already had me burnt-out, and we haven't even started season 1, lol. Great story, best looking ARPG I've ever played, but the substance just isn't there to make this a game you play 15 characters into end-game. All they had to do was copy POE, improve on its short-comings, maybe streamline the systems for those that don't want to use spreadsheets for builds, and boom: they'd have made the best ARPG ever. Season's better drastically change the gameplay loop/roll back scaling on higher world tiers, introduce new enemies, otherwise I'm going back to POE a lot quicker than I intended to.

diablo isn't about collectibles, it's about build synergy and great rift (sigil) pushing .

The worst issue beneath the level scaling, the drop chance and the lazy enemy design is, that you have ONLY FOUR skills, to press on cooldown. You have one ressource generation skill, one spending skill and just 4 skills you can use at a time. 6 SKILLS in total? for an ARPG? This is the laziest skill design I've ever seen in my life. After pressing your 4 CD you basically just wait until you can press them again IN ORDER. That's so giga boring.

I got to level 73 on D4 and quit. I saw no point in progressing any further as I already had BiS and the only think left was level grinding and replacing gear with higher ilvl. Picking up rares and legendaries off the ground felt pointless and like a chore going through them all as 99.99% of items were not an upgrade. In PoE you had loot filters to only show the best items that were worth picking up which let me focus on enjoying the game more. Tbh, I had way more fun in Diablo 3 pushing greater rifts and PoE as a whole. Diablo 4 feels like a waste of time to play at its current state as there is no enjoyment to be found.

When you start the game it's either "play" or "shop". I remember when I had trouble logging in because the queue was so long(and getting kicked out repeatedly) because of an update (new cosmetics!), that the "shop" option was working perfectly. In fact a streamer I was watching went ahead and and bought some cosmetics because the servers were "down" so to speak. At least, the shops always work. Instead of thinking of what's fun/good and then building mechanics around that, it's how do we make money, and then build mechanics around that. The horse thing is crap, but its disguised monetization under "open world."

I thought POE seasonal nerfs were bad. Here they nerf live and midgame. This game is trash, loot stats are not fun, scaling was a horrible idea and you never feel like you're getting stronger. And the skills are boring compared to even D3. I'm really curious a week after the game fully goes live how the players will recieve it.

It's shit. We don't want to admit it but it is. Personally, I expected much more and I only barely completed the campaign. Game is a boring shallow slog-fest with all the usual ingredients that make a Diablo game good removed because Blizzard want to control all the variables.

In expectation of D4 played a bit of Grim Dawn and it really makes the flaws of D4 stand out a lot Also played Lost Ark and it's insane how much better many individual skills feel in Lost Ark compared to Diablo 4 like Spin 2 Win Will see how it goes, but so far it hasn't been very exciting

I have to say I feel robbed. I believed the hype and I wanted this game to be the new upgraded D2 so bad. The game feels flat and boring, more like Lineage 2 than D2. It's got that bad vibe of an old MMO. The monsters leveling with you makes it feel rewardless. The gameplay is not fun at all. The skill tree is uninteresting; the skills system and the cooldowns , omg are they bad mechanics. Anyway, if I have an advice for everyone, it is to wait for POE 2.

D4 is a scam, I got to lvk 54 saw the copy n paste and decided 70£ was too high a asking price for the experience returned it. The main reason I returned it is cz I dont wanna start from scratch every season I wanted to be able to do seasons with my main.

Diablo 4 is in beta right now. It's buggy, rubber-bandy, and grind. I don't want to leave town after doing Altars of Lilith.

Resource generation sucks. They bound dash to a button we could’ve used for an ability. Leveling has been such a slog fest. There needs to be a match making system for dungeon.

The forced online was the dealbreaker for me. I will never buy the game with that nutty design flaw. Saw it 12 years ago when Diablo 3 released and it was rubber banding and crashing on a $5000 computer, they learned nothing since.

Please don't buy this game (let alone $80 skins). Hopefully if enough people stop buying crap AAA games that are made only for profit, the industry would fix itself. Go buy indie games to support people who actually care, who actually want to make a good experience. Let's go back to the days where games were made with love.

Great review. You brought under words what i felt while playing this game. After a dungeon or 2 i just quit the game a go play something else. Your character feels underpowered all the time and boss fights take forever and the resource generation is way to slow. The hope is they will fix this game but now im pretty underwhelmed and i rather play Dredge then to start up D4 again.

i bought it and i kinda agree, the game is a solid 6 out of 10, its above average game but thats it, i reached level 80 and called it quits and this is coming from someone with over 3000hours on Lost Ark and 6 characters at 1530 so my threshold is much higher than ordinary people.

I don't like the 'go here, go there. now go back there again and again'....gets tiring. The legendary items seem lame like 'gives 2% extra damage to frozen enemies' etc. Too much effort for too few rewards. What made D2 was great was how you could get an amazing item and it would make life easier for a while - you could go back and kill something tough a few times cos it was suddenly easier...I hate it how everything levels up with me - I liked having hard areas and easy areas...

You made a really good point about collectibles not being good for a game designed to be replayable. Anything that needs to be repeated over and over season after season needs to be something we want to engage with and not a chore.

I think the story sucks. It’s clunky, over-written, and almost all of it is “run here, oh the person you’re chasing is gone. Run here, dang, too late…”

I find it very odd how so many top ARPG streamers all praise D4 and play it on stream etc. The issues with the game are extremely obvious even at level 25 etc.

Man, to be honest, i'm boring playing the game and this never happened to me with a diablo game. I played with the sorc world 2 difficulty until lvl 30 and my experience with D4 was bad, super boring, progression is slooow, items are trash, all looks the same, characters, the world, the mobs, events are all the same, the map is totally empty and like you said, it's a huge one. I tought it was me, i said wow what happend with me, but the game is very bad right now sorry. I don't want to finish even the campaing right now, i can't, so boring everything for me.

Honestly, some people would say 4.5 is low, but I'd say is pretty generous, especially when you factor in the pricetag. The only thing propping this game up at all is the story and the responsive gameplay, which is actually pretty decent, but ARPGs are entirely about progression systems and endgame replayability through customizable builds, and in that department this game is as pathetically barebones as possible. Blizzard has absolutely zero creativity and understanding of this it really just makes me feel like they don't even play ARPGs at all and are just trying to emulate the ARPG genre with typical modern-day Blizzard philosophies as its backbone, which ultimately comes down to accessibility at-all-costs and monetization schemes as the highest priority. This game is tragically flashy with systems depth in the negatives. Seasonal content can't save the fundamental issues with progression, and I expect the same meta issues that have always plagued every Blizzard game because they have to add more to market the patches then they do balancing and polishing them. I personally expected this even before playing because its par for the course and yet I'm still disappointed with it, simply because of how amazing it could be. Just another multi-million dollar waste of potential. I'd give it a 3.

I was speaking about the collectable problem in the first beta, like, how do you expect tieing playing power to these massive lists every season for an arpg game? Goes against the very core design of a pump and dump character you're supposed to play a season. The problem is too ingraned in the core design to be changed easily I feel.

Bring on path of exile 2. I can’t believe how boring this game is. Massively disappointed. It’s beyond simplistic. Tier 2 from the outset is FAR too easy. I’d rather watch a 2 hour cgi movie of all the cutscenes than play just so I can follow the story. Zero ‘customisation’ and slow boring progression.

Launch is good? The launch is a buggy, rubber banding, connection dropping, constant nerfing, beta testing, disappointing , and boring joke.

The side quest NPCs have the same voice actors as many of the demons. No filters or anything... Games just very monotonous and the open world is made worse with the awful horse movement. Don't you love hitting your dash cooldowns and then immediately hitting that invisible wall and losing all your momentum?

I completely agree with almost everything you said. Especially about the collectibles. ARPG's are about hackin and slashin. I just want to get stronger slay demons and repeat. I hate the collectibles. I never ever want to do any more side missions or lilith statues. If they don't make that stuff account wide in the first season. I am quitting the game. That stuff was sooooo boring and barely gives you any progression of your character if at all. Mix that in with how terrible leveling feels for most classes yeah, I don't see people staying for long after the first season if they don't change this stuff.

The fact that they didnt fix but actually doubled down on the microtransactions and overpaid bs that was plagging D3 at launch p*sses me the f*ck off. Also D2 resurrected has an offline mode. But just requires an online check-in evrey 30 days would be far better and give players more control over what WE PAID FOR! But nope.. these corporations wanna own and control evreything you have despite the fact we pay full price (103$ Canadian for me) for this crap!

Honestly, after seeing all the reviews and going through the storyline D4 is a pass for me, unless I get curious later. It screams reboot and slapped together last minute in my opinion. No way Blizzard spent upwards of ten years developing this game. The story doesn’t make sense in my opinion, especially with basically no returning characters as far as I can tell. It doesn’t answer any questions left over from D3 or Reaper of Souls and yeah, you get the point. It would be fine as a stand alone game in my opinion, but not as a continuation of the series. I expect a lot of MTX to start popping up soon.

If i knew it before, i wouldn't spend money on it. It really is a mediocre product. Areas look more less the same, the open world is a mistake. It just doesn't fit in a game like this. It's good entertainment for 20 - 40 hours, but i can't imagine myself playing it for longer than that really. I will most likely never even touch the endgame as it's boring during the leveling process, and i can't force myself to play for more than an hour at a time.

I stopped playing. I got to lvl 37 and just coulding do it anymore, it just gets so repetitive. I keep getting let down by gaming game after game. Hopefully ff16 wont let me down, im going back to playing Bloodborne because Fromsoftware hasn't let me down yet.

I think all of these super big issues I could overlook if everything wasn't so bland... The map is dark and washed out, the skills are washed out and almost never change besides some legendaries changing them slightly (all the other legendaries are like passives that are uninspired), all the gear in the game looks like npc armor including the legendaries... Nothing glows or stands out visually... It's just all samey.. I'm level 45 and I've used practically the same build since level one with hardly any changes.. And nothing to attract my eye lol half the time I cant even find my character because I look like the brown ground

The monsters are very repetitive... Especially those frew demon-style ones. They appear in every place including the beginning of 1st ACT and the end of the last ACT. This repetitive design never happened in Diablo 2 or 3! In Diablo 2 or 3, every ACT has its own special monsters!!

It's just not gripping me the way I thought it would.. That could be my fault for being gullible. But it marketed and promoted itself to be SO much different. It was supposed to be DARK and back to D1 roots.. but it's just not doing it.. Some PG13 games are darker and more mysterious. I can't believe I'd ever say this.. But I enjoyed Diablo 3 WAY MORE than this... That's saying something. These game companies just STILL don't understand... Graphics and Polish DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD GAME.

Only thing they improved upon is the graphics. Literally everything else they went backwards. Only Diablo game where I get bored to death after an hour's play. Zero progression, actually feels as if I get weaker after leveling up. Going back to Last Epoch, a game which is still in Beta but has more content and skill dynamics that Diablo 4 ever will.

I wanted it to be great, but would have settled for decent. Everyone is reading about how bad it is because it's more fun than playing the game. When I'm into a game I don't waste my time looking at bad reviews. No one does.... Waste of $70.00. I read some other person write how they may eventually fix the game so it's fun and charge us another $20 to download new content in order to start having fun playing it. The cosmetics in the game are awful and then Blizzard set insulting real world prices for cosmetics. So, it's kinda fun at first until you realize that it's not going to get any more enjoyable and no amount of leveling or items is having any impact on gameplay after about level 40 or so. The special effects start off decent for lower levels, but then they don't really get much better and then they plateau into a world of lackluster and repetitive. Even new content feels like more of the same. Speaking of which, why are there little laptop looking icons on the minimap? How do laptop icons on a minimap (among other things) fit into an immersive game experience? Do all of these spoilers even have a place in the game at all? It's like they decided to not even build the "fifth wall" into the game. Someone complained they didn't like backtracking or searching or complicated character builds, items, attributes, resistances, skills, etc., and Blizzard capitulated. Who the hell is the target audience for this game anyways? It's definitely not adults. Oh, and can we get a little variety and brighter colors in the environmental color schemes from time to time? The whole snow canvas seems like a copout as well. Can't imagine investing the hours I sank into D, D2, and D3 into this game. I'm so disappointed. I'm sure we can all name a dozen titles of games that are significantly more enjoyable in the same genre as D4. The lack of condemnation of this game by streamers has me concerned about their integrity as being unbiased and not beholden to these game producers.

The people saying this game is 10/10 are those who have never played a diablo game in their life and have no clue what they are talking about. I haven't even played this game yet but by seeing how it looks and plays.. It's just a reskin of Diablo 3 with more flashy graphics. That doesn't make a game 10/10. Gameplay and replayability make a game 10/10 and to be honest this game is not a replayable game. So glad I didn't waste the money on this game. Now with that said, for those who have never played diablo and are having fun with this game, more power too you and i'm happy for you but i implore you to go play Diablo 2 and experience what made that game so amazing and why it's still played 20 years later.

I played the beta and the server slam, also my wife bought this for me as a birthday gift. What a fucking waste. I already asked for a refund from Blizzard since I played more than two hours, I am currently level 30, but man I am so fcking bored of it. Wow! Never thought I'll ever say this, but Diablo 4 is a boring game. Looks like they took most of the aspects of D3 and moved them here, dimmed the lights to make it darker and there ya go, new game for 70€. No thanks, I'll spend that money in October on the new Dota2 battle pass for the International. At least that game is fun and competitive. This is just SAD. Comparing this to D2...what a wasted potential. 11 years and we get an exact copy of D3.

It’s extremely boring, I discovered all Lilith altars yesterday and nearly sleeped away, the game is to easy and you do always just the same, you have always the same tasks when it comes to dungeons and they always spawn in an much to easy boss who always dropps the same yellow items, and even if he would drop legendaries they wouldn’t be better than the stuff I wear from 20 levels ago, because the equipped essences for my build are so OP that a slight change would need me to reconfigure the new item for an enormous amount of Ressourcen just to a better version of the item that I already wear since 10 hours, so why bothering if the damage is there and I never face any noteworthy opposition. They ruined basically the loot for Diablo and there are no set items to collect, so GG Blizzard

I throughly enjoyed the campaign, however the endgame grind is extrmely tedious.. I also want to say that some WT1 campaign bosses are AIDS... reaching 50+ is boring tbh so its a game to play occasionally with friends but solo outside the campaign is boring..

I am in act two and I already decided to quit. Really disappointing. Monsters variety is ridiculous. This game desperately need new content right now or it's going to die out very quickly

This game is so bad. I got to level 93, deleted and have not looked back. Many things did it for me but my major gripe is the itemization. I found myself not even looking at uniques until i got back to town and sold them. There is no reason to keep going anymore. They literally forgot to add stuff to do in the game 90+. And don't tell me nightmare dungeons are the endgame. that is just lol

this game was the biggest disappointment i've had this year, i was unlucky enough to play the druid and decided to play the game in world tier 2, 20 minute boss fights pressing the same disgusting combo all the time, then i finished The story, although I liked it, didn't seem like a big deal to me and it's much shorter than what people say, despite all the time it took me to kill the bosses because of the titanic life bar on that difficulty and the character being rubbish in early it took me about 14 hours and doing several secondary missions, when I reached endgame I realized what a lousy purchase I had made, after 3 days I couldn't take it anymore because of how boring the game was, and that I'm accustomed to repetitive games, in his day I played a lot of warframe and there you have to grind a lot, but this is the same, exactly the same all the time I think it is the arpg that I have lasted the least playing in my entire life.

Diablo 4 even tho I am enjoying many aspects is a perfect example of Blizzard once again learning nothing from previous releases. It feels like Lost Ark (Blizzard edition) the map is massive but empty. The scaling is damn near horizontal. You never truly feel powerful because the scaling blows. The lack of enemy character design is embarrassing. The net code sucks. For 3 days I get random lag spikes that either get me killed or disconnect me entirely. I constantly have ping bouncing between 300-800 ms but if I go to Overwatch it sits around 45-60. Build diversity damn near nonexistent (so much for no meta builds) there is a lot to do but also there is to much to do. The endgame looks awful. Diablo 3 had the same issues and the fix came in a DLC we paid for. But don’t worry the cash works (because of course give us more money) I honestly don’t see me playing more than a month maybe. Good thing FF16 is coming because this has been a huge disappointment so far.

The Mainstory is meh, kinda boring, very easy, bossfights are invisible, the endgame feels really bad for me, im at 62 necromancer,(that now its the shittiest pg possible). It feels like a game you play a week and then never play again. But its frikin diablo wtf. Diablo 3 still more appealing and fun to me than this, im sorry that i spend 90€ i dont think i ll max out, its pointless

I uninstalled today. Really let down. Once past the campaign it feels like a phone game.

if lost ark wasnt so gatekeep like id be over there playing that again but sadly the community and bots ruined lost ark so now we got a watered down version called diablo 4 by blizzard for 75$. Great review!
