It is kind of funny to see "world record speed run" then right when the vid starts, you just see this sorcerer calmly walking around.

Now I want to play Diablo again. This game and Doom actually gave me chills playing them back in the day. Of course being 7 or 8 years old helped that.

Pretty obvious it was save stated. The chances of getting all those stairs that close is astronomical.

I had forgotten how slow you moved in the original Diablo.

I woke up today and became a demon slayer in 6 minutes...

Ohh thank God. I honestly thought I was the only one who likes D2 a hell of a lot better. D1 is kind of like the first time you see your future wife, you like her a lot and all. D2 you fall in love and get engaged. D3 You get married and she puts on 100 lbs. Sorry if anyone disagrees... Just how I feel.

I played this game for many years and I've never seen all stairs like that. You'll understand my doubt of the legitimacy of this record. Edit: Never mind, I didn't know it was reloaded 50 zillion times.

I am not a fan of segmented speed runs at all. That is what this is; the runner basically replayed several segments many, many times, waiting for optimal stairs, drops, and monster rolls. Each segment usually starts at a loading screen and ends right before the next. This makes it into a psuedo-TAS (tool assisted run), yet Speed Demos Archive still allows it. In short, this is nothing more than luck manipulation, and is nowhere near possible in real time.

I never played that game with sorcerer, but damn that energy shield is OP as fuck!

this blows my mind.. how did u get all the random factors to play for you ? like having all the stairs next to each other and the exact drops u needed. u just repeated this 100000000 times, till u got lucky ?

The cinematics and storytelling of the first game are so campy and lovable. RIP old days of gaming.

you're allowed to use save states. He just saves right before he enters a level. When he enters the level and the door isn't right next to him, he reloads the save and enters the level again.

Chipotle diarrhea makes more sense than this.

So he just spliced together the best possible odds for random level generation and random item drops (the staff he dupes, the ring he finds and the helm that makes him invincible due to the negative hp glitch.)

And surely the most abused thing about this video : how does the hell he know what he dropped? it's clearly not JUST because you know everything of this game ( the first drop was a town portal and then a ring and the 2 were 100% ) i cry for WTF. But i think the rest is ok except ALL i said up the duplication isn't a cheat : it's a bug and don't tell me that abusing of a bug is cheating because bugs are part of the game and cheating means you use something outside from the game ( like codes )

It's a segmented run, so the "stairs" thing is just "save scum until you get what you want."

I gotta wonder how the hell the person playing got so lucky with the floor layouts there. If the floors are randomly generated every time, how the hell did the stairs to the next floor down show up right next to him every time?

@ShiningforceHero It's called a brute force method where he rerolls Diablo's RNG seed billions of times before actually creating the game. This is why every stairway is right beside the next, Naj's Puzzler (his teleport stick) just *happens* to drop at the earliest point possible, and other hilarities. Reverse-engineering the RNG enables you to create a game instance that does whatever you want it to do.

Items that gave you minus health and brought you below 0 made you invincible. It was a bug in the game that people used to just cheese the game.extremely easy to do.

@stealthunter14 fireball spell is an "over-powered loop-hole" in D1. And in the past, mana shield soaks up 100% damage even at lvl 1, unlike D2 with a 75% cap even at max lvl. The only thing i don't understand is, how the map scrambler system puts the stairs that favors him so much. and @quietlily33, you should stay with your nick and just go quiet. When this game was shit hot, you were probably just a baby(literally).

@jutsin928 there are torrents for the game (the only reason i say this is cause no pc shop or blizz sells this or emulates for newer pc so it seems to be up for grabs if they refuse to sell it to us) I forgot how freaking hard the game is to play and start up again.

That's also luck manipulation. The damage you/enemies receive is "from X to XX" and the exact number is "random". You can manipulate the damage you or enemies receive, so that you receive minimum damage, while enemies receive maximum damage in the possible damage ranges. So, the only edgy thing groobo does is the negative health glitch because it's FIXED on 1.07 which means he played an earlier version. This game is fantastic! If you were really a Diablo fan you would play this one and not actually care about how it looks like! It looks good, dark and evil with the most fantastic soundscape of the `90s! Diablo II is just bigger and more brighter! The third one is just cartoony! RIP Blizzard North!

Item duplicating is obvious and that IS cheating. Also it's more than odd that he could so smoothly teleport at every stairway/dungeon/cave... every time. How is that even humanly possible and how can he even teleport that far when it only allows you to teleport as far as the screen goes? The entire video reeks of bug abuse. In any case, this isn't a fair speedrun AT ALL, not to mention the... "luck"... at 1:30 that he even managed to kill that monster.... World record my a-ss.

Gush hearing the creator of this movie trying tell us this is NOT a cheat is just funny. Using a bug = cheat. The ring the use make him invurneable i never heard about that. Gush upload stop protect the video. it's a complete flopp cuze it's proven faked. (Not "faked" but that he was not playing the game with out bugs, mods, cheats or what ever he used.)

They buy their food in the same way, they use their vehicles the same way, use alternate routes as much as possible, they eat fast food all day and like psychobro said with the rest of their time they do speedruns ;)

Bugs may remove the challenge from a simple playthrough, but pretty much all decently challenging games are VERY HARD to speedrun. The glitches are there to lower the time, not to make it easier. Just try duping at the insane speed groobo does. You will fail, over and over. About imagery "cut out" -- well, this is called save/load. "27 segments appended to one file" so this required 27 saves. _continued_in_the_next_post_

Whoa, if you're going to diss a video then at least learn what a "speed run" is. "Speed run" means using any in-game means to achieve the fastest results. That includes glitches and "luck manipulation". (computers are essentially calculators, nothing is truly random, if you know what the game uses to make pseudorandomness you can abuse it) Duping is a glitch, and luck manipulation gets you the dungeons with no hacking. _continued_in_the_next_post_

If you save during a cutscene, an animation, or a speech said by an NPC, then when you load, the end of the cutscene/animation/speech is not going to be there. Since the 27 segments were all appended to one file, the save/load was cut out -- and rightfully so, due to the way SDA times. The loading screens for levels are still there, but apparently cut from timing. (otherwise, 3:12 is a few seconds too short)

So how exactly does the beginning work? Do you just restart like a billion times until you get the entrance to the next floor right next to the other entrance 20 times?

All levels are randomized. So if you start a new game, the levels won't be like the last time. --> It's possible that the next entrance is right next to you, but its also possible that you have to run xx miles until you've found it.

How come he can use items from the end levels? Doesn't for the example, staff have a lvl requirement or stat requirement or so? Hehe ^.^

what are you talking about?...its practically the same game except you actually have to go out and find spells to gain rather then retrieve them from simple level ups, plus I think the graphics in diablo 1 where slightly better then 2...not to mention the nostalgia of its music!

Yes yes... I forgot the C&C and Red Alert series, as well as the original AoE having come out then! And I'm sure there were plenty more, like the original Tomb Raider for instance, but I can't just sit here trying to name every good series that originated around that time. ;-)

I agree with you! I was visiting my cousins back in 1996 just after the game was launched and went to buy the game the next day. One of my all time favorites and had two friends we used to play together with modem connections lol. Now looking back the game lacks running and variety of items and what not, but it never bothered me back then. It was best game ever. (still is)

As for the "teleport to end" thing, that's when luck manipulation stops, and teleport makes short shrift of all levels due to a bug. If you enter a level, hold your cursor at the (for example) "down to level 11" stairway and then cast teleport during the loading screen, it will remember that teleport as pointed to the ending stairway. So when you enter level 11, it will cast teleport and automatically send you to level 12. _continued_in_the_next_post_
