I had this quest idea in mind ever since TU4 but I was really sad to see they still kept Apex-Nushi Diablos out that update.
Now that he's here, it was an absolute blast doing this quest. Looks like I was right before when I said that it was probably intended by the devs for Arena locales to be available in investigations ; now it's a thing and it's legal.
Despite being the same species, Diablos and Apex-Nushi Diablos are completely different fights for Hammer, and this is the first time I showcase these matchups.
Diablos is an awkward Hammer matchup because its face, while it is a weakpoint, is protected by its horns, which aren't a weakpoint.
Even after breaking its Horns, precisely hitting Diablos' face with Hammer is a difficult task. This leaves its torso as its best weakpoint, but the only moves in Courage Hammer's moveset that can reliably hit Diablos' torso are the level 1 and 2 charges. The level 3 charge will very often hit its back for some sad reason.
Whereas all of this is nearly the complete opposite for Apex-Nushi Diablos. Its entire face including its horns is a weakpoint, but the rest of its body is covered in bad hitzones.
Apex-Nushi Diablos is also naturally much bigger than Diablos, and a lot of its moves will often miss the hunter ; a lot of Apex-Nushi Diablos' attacks also make it move forward a lot, making it difficult to stay close to its face.
