HI Lisa, it really is one stitch is one diamond. It won't work on patterns with backstitch or half stitches, but other than that it's one for one. Each stitch = 0.25cm.

The colour chart is available on the same page as the product, scroll down and click on the Floss usage chart, this will give you the colours/quantities/symbols etc. Let me know if you need a copy of the message I sent to order the blank canvas.

Hi Katie, I don't place the symbol on the canvas, but I work on a chart that has all the symbols printing and put the right colour diamond in the right place according to the chart.

Taping the back of the canvas should be enough to hold it together and you won't be able to see it from the front.
