I initially started this owl diamond painting to show how I work square drills with a diamond painting pen but as I worked on it I started to wonder if there would be any difference if I used tweezers to place the drills.
So I decided to work on the canvas single placing with a pen but to switch to tweezers for the eyes.
Now we're having a close look to see if using tweezers makes any difference to the final drill placement.
I bought this diamond painting kit from the GemsFlow app that a lot of people use to keep track of their diamond paintings.

Thank you Jim for this info. I was only wondering if I should use tweezers but now as I am a beginner I might keep going with the pen. I have a light pad now and it has made a big difference for me as my sight is not the best. Thanks again!

Hi Eve, I use a light pad all the time. It’s definitely my number one diamond painting accessory. 🙂 Regarding the tweezers, it really doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or not. Just practice lifting drills from your tray and moving them to another channel. You’ll soon get used to how much pressure to use. Don’t try with the thin silver tweezers, they’re far too soft and will just frustrate you. After saying that, most diamond painters use pens and only use tweezers to pick out misplaced or misshapen drills. The main thing is that you enjoy doing your diamond painting. 🙂 Thanks for watching! 😊

I like tweezers but sometimes the drills fling out of my tweezers because I don't grab the drills correctly hahaha. It's a learned technique. And yes, I noticed it's the AB s.

You should try ceramic tipped tweezers. They don’t go to a sharp point, so more area connects with the sides of the drill. I use them for rounds and squares but I have a sharp pair handy if I need to remove a drill. The tips on the ceramic are too thick to get in the gap to lever them up.

Yes yes yes for tweezers. All squares of mine are done this way

Hi Kari, I use tweezers for squares too and sometimes for rounds, if they pick up easily. I was thinking more about the final placement of the drills. Would the spacing on the eyes be much better than the rest of the canvas when I put the light pad on? I didn’t notice any obvious improvement. Thanks for watching! 😊

I am quite precise when putting the drills so it does not make difference if I use pen or tweezer but I prefer the pen,thanks for the video

Hello Jim! Can you tell me where you got the kit to your left (my right)? Not the owl but the other one. It's really nice.

Hi, that one is a custom of a picture I took of a hover fly at the botanical gardens in Copenhagen. It’s an 80 x 75 with 89 colours. I ordered it from Mike at www.smithsbeads.co.uk 🙂

Hi Jim! Where can I get plastic tips? I've looked everywhere. Thank you 🙂

Hi Dianna, I just searched Amazon for ‘plastic diamond painting pen tips’. I didn’t find just tips but I found quite a few pens that come with a selection of tips and some are plastic. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! 🙂

The only thing I don't like about pens is the wax. I hate how it sometimes comes out of the pen and sticks to the drill
@DiamondPaintingJim

Hi Kelly, it’s usually only AB drills that pull the wax out of the pens. I’ve always used tweezers for ABs because I’d heard of this issue. Now I use tweezers all the time for round and square drills. Thanks for watching! 😊
