These people are using the oldest anti worker, anti union myths in the book. 'if you bargain for higher wages, you'll end up with less money'. "Do these writers know they'll have less shows to work on? *Other person: idk, I haven't talked to them yet". Then what are you doing here? Seems like a basic question that they obviously have an answer to.

Great come back story for the American middle-class. There’s a lot regular folk who work in the movie business. And so many cynical people said it couldn’t be done. Congratulations writers!

Yeah there was also a lot of people that work on making the movies that didn't care about the strike and just wanted to work but weren't allowed to. Even the talk shows that we're going to go back and help their employees work again we're shot down for whatever reason. These people are the worst. Middle class or not.

@@drake.707 Without the Union these people on the talk shows would be making MacDonald’s wages of $15/hr. We’ve had 2 generations of being played by the man brother. There’s no real rationale for anyone to shill for millionaires and billionaires. Wouldn’t you agree?

a few months ago one executive said he will not stop until it will destroy the union. what he forgot was the power of workers when they unite and not compromise. the guest makes the mistake of not seeing that the studios can raise the prices and have the same number of shows.

He also says at one point that the streaming budget for Netflix is fixed at X billion dollars and implied wages would come from that budget. Then later he says streaming services will have to pass on the wage increases to consumers. If the money is coming from the fixed budget, then what increase is being passed on to consumers?

Employers _always_ say raising wages will mean fewer jobs. But that's not something they can just declare; it's a guess at what will happen in the market. If there's still a lot of demand and investing in more production pays off, it could well be that the overall spend on wages goes up.

Darn it, it's over? So does this mean they're going to go back to making bad movies and tv shows again? These people are insufferable. The dude that said they saved the movie and TV industry is absolutely crazy because there is no saving something that's been dead for years now.

This is similar to the worries of manufacturers who have lost their jobs to robots

As these services cut inventory and increase prices RU-vid goes into a really good place for amateur writers. This contract probably makes it really hard to get into a writing job

For the vast majority of TV shows and movies they don't need to worry about whether or not they were good or not because they weren't they aren't people are sick of it make a good movie just make a good movie.

The idea that the studios will have to scale back on the number of shows produced is bullshit. They also have the option to decrease their profit margin. They just dont want to. The line doesnt HAVE to go up. We dont have to give ever more to the people who are doing no work. The whole time in this discussion youre talking about it as if it was a non-profit industry.

I wish you would have touched on if the writers are allowed to use AI to assist them in writing their content or not, and if there are any implications or concessions if somebody violated that... etc.
