📘 Geneva vs KJV Genesis 3:5 | Clarifying Misconceptions about Biblical Translations
Have you ever wondered about the differences between the Geneva Bible 1560 and the 1611 King James Version (KJV) when it comes to translating Genesis 3:5? Join me as we dive into this intriguing topic to uncover the truth behind these historical translations.
Commenters Claim:
"Don't believe this. Genesis 3:6 is a prime early example. KJV literally changes what the weekend tells Eve. Geneva Bible 1560 says deeper told Eve they "shall be gods." KJV uses the annotation in the Geneva Bible to change the verse to "shall be like God." He didn't say that."
In this video, I address this Commenter's claim that the KJV altered the wording from the Geneva "shall be as gods" to "shall be like God."
🔍 Geneva Bible 1560: "But God doeth knowe, that when ye shal eat thereof, your eyes shalbe opened, & ye shalbe as gods, knowing good and euil."
🔍 1611 King James Version (KJV): "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."
Both translations convey the same essential message: eating the fruit would open their eyes and make them "as gods," understanding good and evil. There is no significant alteration in any of these Religious Texts meaning or wording between these versions.
To further emphasize the consistency, let's look back at an earlier translation from the 1539 Great Bible:
🔍 1539 Great Bible: "But God doth knowe, that the same day that ye eat thereof, your eyes shalbe opened, ye shalbe eue as goddes, knowing good and evil."
Even with archaic spelling differences like "eue" for "even" and "goddes" for "gods," the core message remains unchanged across these translations.
It's essential to recognize the efforts of translators over the centuries to preserve the original meaning and intent of the scriptures. While minor variations in wording may exist due to language evolution, the fundamental message remains consistent.
So, in response to claims of alteration by the KJV, the evidence is clear: the phrase "shall be as gods" has consistently been translated similarly across these historical versions. THERE IS NO CHANGE!!!
But don't take my word for it!
